"The fact that you don't understand that leaving with the Brotherhood while we evacuated wounded and limped into hiding until we could recover was abandoning us at our greatest hour makes me very tired and very sad." Scott said, quietly, "But, it's not my job to change you, when clearly you don't want to change, despite your protesting that you do."

He turned back to his computer, and tapped a few keys and looked at the screen, instead of Emma for a few moments. His computer, of course, was color adjusted to his unique visual problems, so perhaps to Emma, if she bothered to look, it would be hard to read. But, basically what she would see would be the school schedule, the curriculum that they taught here that had to comply with New York State School Board Association's standards. This wasn't Hogwarts, after all, where the children were only educated in their powers. The first class here had received basic GEDs, their education handled by the Professor, but each of them had, in exchange, worked to get the school properly accredited, so that the classes after then would be able to further their education if they wanted, to attend college like anyone else, to get their degrees, their doctorates, whatever it was that they felt they deserved. It sometimes baffled Scott that though his brain damage and the time lost in the coma had required him to take remedial courses, not to mention the numerous absences when Jack had beaten him too badly to go to school, or had locked him in his room as punishment for whatever he had deemed an offence, that he had ended up, of all things, a school teacher. Math, leadership, auto shop... normal average classes, his extracurriculars of ranged attack, hand to hand combat and flight training, notwithstanding.

"Warren is taking a leave of absence, now that Jean and I have returned, so I've been attempting to juggle the class schedules. Warren was teaching business, economics, and something called virtual enterprise. If you're interested, if you really want to make a difference, and you don't know that you can stand with us when the world is at our doorstep, then you can teach us for when the world is at a stand still. Prove to me that you can stick with that, and we'll talk more."

Looking back to her, Scott said, "No one is asking you to be something you're not, Emma. God knows that we all have our issues. I'm not someone who knows how to win friends and influence people. But we, as the adults, as the teachers, as the X-Men, are required to stand for these children. If you can't do that, if can never do that, you tell me, right now."

Scott harped on the fact that Emma disappointed everyone when she left the X-Men in the wake of the Purifier bombings. “My words won't and can't sway you one way or the other. You know the risks I have taken over the last 2 years to preserve the integrity of the world. Working as a double agent against one of the most powerful and deadly men on the planet. Preserving the integrity of those corrupted by the Hand, Fighting my way out to save an innocent girl and Namor and bring them to safety, Was leaving after the bombing the best choice I ever made, No. and I paid dearly for that mistake in the Sanctuary.” with a lengthy incarceration at the hands of the Brotherhood.

“But I will not continue to be drawn into a debate over my mistakes, my intentions and the sort. That will simply get us no where. When the chips were down and the world and or immediate safety of those close to me were on the line I can confidently say I made the right calls. I have made mistakes I have made poor decisions but my mistakes and poor decisions were matters of inconvenience for others, I'd hope I never put anyone in a life threatening situation over my poor choices in life.” While many of Emma's choices and decisions had been self serving for her she never felt her actions were detrimental to anyone but herself.

The conversation switched gears when Scott mentioned Warren would himself be taking a lengthy sabbatical from the Mansion leaving his current course load left with no teacher. Scott ran down the list of classes Warren taught all relatively within the wheel house of Emma and her own teaching expertise. “You know I have always prided myself as a teacher first and a super human second, Scott. I would be honored to pick up Warren's current class load during his absence.” Emma said keeping her answer as short and sweet as possible.

“Battered and Bruised I fought for the children. Carried out of my class room barely conscious I refused to take a cot and receive medical attention begging the attention be given to the others who needed it. Fighting to exhaustion to clear the grounds of Purifiers. I may have left when the fighting was done. But that did not mean I forgot about it, As I said I was there on Winter Island to make sure those people never threatened another student or mutant again. Maybe I wasn't in your Jungle Sanctuary or shacking up in Warren's building. But that never meant I didn't stop fighting for the students.”

There were a lot of people who said that Scott Summers was inflexible, especially when it came to matters of right and wrong, and maybe he was a bit too self righteous and priggish... ok, a lot too self righteous, but he was a fair man. He had difficulty admitting when he was wrong, but he was capable of it, when the facts were irrefutable or when circumstances showed him that his visor was sometimes more of a blinder than he wished.

Emma Frost's complete lack of self awareness, and inability to understand that the evils she had done far outweighed the good made Scott look like his spine was made of rubber. Jean could be pretty stubborn sometimes, but Emma by far took the cake in self delusion. Did she really believe that she had risked her life for Namor of all people? Maybe she did believe it. After all, hadn't Namor convinced his own self that setting monsters on the New Years Eve partiers of New York was necessary for the slight chance of defeating Doom's cabal? Birds of a feather were the White Queen and the King of Atlantis. Scott had no idea who Valeria was or why Emma placed such importance on her, that she would consider rescuing her from Doom to be proper recompense for perpetuating evils. Hell, it was clear that Emma wasn't even aware of the fact that the Brotherhood's ill-advised and horribly vengeful attack on Winter Island had nearly caused the destruction of New York City if not for the true sacrifice made by Alex, a man who had accepted his complicity in making the world a harder place for them all, without making the excuse that he was brainwashed. Alex, Warren, Jono and even Amelia had been tortured into evil, and had worked hard since to make amends. Emma had willingly chosen to do bad and selfish things, and couldn't understand that her good deeds didn't matter because she never felt regret, no matter how hard she tried to convince them all that she did.

Scott had never been a particularly patient person, not as a boy, not as a man, not as leader. He was not going to continue to argue with Emma over and over again. "I'll transfer Warren's lessons plans to your computer, and make the appropriate scheduling changes. Have a good day, Emma, thanks for stopping by."
