It had begun to flurry just a little bit as the doors to the local theatre opened up to let out the large group of movie goers for that afternoon’s featured films. One of the largest groups was surprisingly still coming out of the third Hobbit movie, which had come out close to a month ago, but like the Lord of the Rings movies beforehand it was quite popular, though there were mixed reviews about stretching one, not overly thick novel into three movies. Tabitha didn’t really have a strong opinion on it herself, she had read the original book and liked it enough, but she wasn’t a major fangirl about it. She wasn’t a big reader, but she did read the occasional book if it struck her interest.

“That was actually a pretty epic conclusion to a trilogy!” She admitted to the young man accompanying her, “I’m still don’t like the Tauriel character though, like if you’re going to add an extra female character at least make her interesting and not just there as a love interest.” The blonde had very strong opinions about certain things, but tried not to push them on others. She did like to express them though and was rather loud about it. She was somewhat loud about most things though, which is why she was a fairly well known presence around the mansion.

Tabby had decided earlier that day that she wanted to go to a movie and get out of the mansion, but she needed to find someone to go with her, because going to a movie by yourself was weird. At first she had considered asking one of her female friends with the intention of possibly going shopping afterwards, but then she thought she might ask one of the guys just for fun. She had ended up asking Jono, who she had sort of an interest in, possibly because she had caught him playing the guitar a few times and she had some liking for musicians. He was even more interesting now that he had a torso and jaw, however temporary and it was more apparent that he was quite attractive. He had agreed, though perhaps somewhat hesitantly.

To get back to the evening at hand, the snow was beginning to fall a little bit thicker, but not quite enough to obscure the vision. It was still mostly pretty, especially when the wind was blowing very hard. “Man I love winter, it’s so pretty!” Tabitha said all of a sudden, a bright smile curving her lips. She wrapped her knit scarf more firmly around her neck and zipped up her coat all the way before changing the subject completely. “I’m hungry let’s see if we can find somewhere to eat.” She suggested, her smile widening to a grin. She turned down the street towards the shop, assuming Jono would follow her.

As the Brit got out of the theater he strode alongside Tabby, slipping his free arm into his jackets sleeve. The long trench coat barely swept above the ground with the tall man walking beside his friend. Her enthusiasm at the ending of the movie and in particular Tauriel who she had a great dislike for, was quite amusing and he listened to her talk. Jono had read the books and had enjoyed them, but it was a little different to see the characters and story come to life in the movies. While he had seen the others, he never had someone to go with. This time was rather different. If someone was to tell him that he would be going to a movie with a beautiful girl, he would have burst out laughing. Though since the power swap, anything was possible and it was nice to see that his new face had the same features as his old one. Then again it was basically a copy of what he used to be, and he couldn't be happier. Walking along side Tabby, Jono wrapped a scarf around his features as he had done many times before.

"You are right about the epic conclusion it was pretty good indeed," he commented back to her "though I have te agree with ye on Tauriel, it is rather sad just to insert a character so it could be a love interest. But ah well nothing ye can do about it now though, movie is all said and done." As the pair headed outside into the December air, a snow flurry had started while the two of them were watching the movie. The white snow blew around the sky obscuring vision, but it also made it more beautiful when the wind picked up the flakes and threw them around above them. Slipping his hands into the pockets of his coat, Jono walked along side Tabby, chuckling a little at her exclamation of winter.

"You are right about that Tabby, winter is a beautiful thing especially the snow," his british accent permeating his speech. He still had it almost as if he had just stepped off the boat, and he didn't mind that all. Something he hadn't done in years, a smile crossed his lips. It was an odd sensation but he couldn't help it, there was something familiar and nice about it. When she mentioned food and took the lead ahead of him. "Yeah I could stand to eat something," he replied as he followed after her his jacket tails sweeping snow behind him.

Tabitha had particularly strong opinions about female characters inserted into movies to just be the love interest and who lacked the character depth of the male protagonists and antagonists. They tended to irritate her most of the time, and it wasn’t uncommon for her to rant about it for a bit. This was a bit strange for someone who had a love for stupid action flicks, and a dislike for the stereotypical chick flick, except for a few, but most of them were older, classic films from the genre. Dirty Dancing for an example was one she absolutely loved. She decided that she wasn’t going to rant tonight or at least not out loud, in her mind she was still quietly annoyed.

Her bright blue eyes shifted up to look at Jono when he responded to her comments about the movie, “It’s true, and even if it wasn’t over I still couldn’t do anything about it.” She grinned and then added, “So I’ll spare you my usual rant on the subject!” She turned away for a moment, to pull her knit hat more firmly over her ears, and adjust her gloves. Her gaze also shifted upwards to admire the swirling snow, which would soon almost glitter under the street lights. She then turned her attention back to her handsome companion and the shops ahead.

She had a good idea as to where she was, as well as a set destination in her mind.
“Awesome!” She said as he admitted that he might be a little bit hungry as well. She wondered for a moment how strange eating might seem now after so many years with a psionic furnace for most of his upper torso and jaw, but didn’t ask right then. Tabby did save that for a potential question later, perhaps when there were a few less people around who might listen in on their question. North Salem was a quiet little town, that wasn’t all that tolerant of the more physically obvious mutations.

She took a moment to look down the street to make one hundred percent sure that she knew where they were and that they were headed in the right direction. “There’s this awesome little diner not too far from here that is decorated like one of those Classic diners from the fifties.” She explained, “Like if you’ve ever seen Grease it’s pretty similar to the diner in that.” Grease was another one of those chick flicks that she secretly liked, and might possibly know the lyrics for all of the songs. She did, but she wouldn’t admit that to just anyone. They had to earn it.

“A-ha!” Tabby exclaimed suddenly and happily, “Here it is!” She grinned, and then all but dragged Jono a few feet down the street to a quaint little restaurant. It was complete with a neon sign and once she opened the door they could see that it was decorated with a checked floor, as well as fifties memorabilia. There was even a juke box in one of the corners. “I know it’s kind of cheesy but the food and service are great.” She chuckled and then looked around for the closest unoccupied booth.

"Well being spared a rant is alright, but if ye really want to ye can go ahead and rant all ye want," he commented back to her with a chuckle. Jono walked alongside Tabby watching the snow blow through the twilight filling sky. He still had a smile on his face and he didn't think that it would ever go away. Since the power swap, someone crossing his way could almost always see a smile on his face. It felt good to, especially feeling the muscles turn up into his classic smooth grin. With his hands in pockets still he walked along Tabby, admiring the snow as much as walking with her.

Her exclamation of him wanting to eat something, made his smile grew a little more. "Yeah it is pretty awesome actually especially since I can eat now," he replied with a joyful laugh that seemed to ring through the snow filled air. Sticking his tongue out into the air, he caught a snowflake on it before turning his head to show Tabby. "Tak a look!" he voiced to her before it quickly melted on his warm organ. "OH! its cold! It has been years since I've done that wow." Jono laughed again and watched as Tabby seemed to be looking for something and when she told him about the restaurant.

"That sounds rather interesting. Stuff from the fifties is always interesting unless somewhere goes way to over the top with all the memorabilia," he managed to comment before she shrieked happily and dragged him by the arm to the entrance. He laughed again as he was dragged into the restaurant. As they entered he could see that it was indeed fifties themed complete with even a jukebox. He definitely could see the appeal, it was like stepping back in time a little bit. "Naw it looks fine and I can smell the food, it smells great," he said patting her on the shoulder affectionately. Scanning the restaurant he found a good booth to sit in and putting his arm around her shoulder he said "here ladies first since you picked the restaurant ladies first my dear." Being a gentleman was always important to Jono. "Can I take your coat or you going to keep it on for a little bit?" he asked her.

“Nah I think I’m good now!” Tabitha replied with a grin, “I just had to get at least one comment about it out of my system.” And she was good, she only ever needed a moment to state her opinion whether it was agreed upon or not. She was opinionated but she tried not to shove those opinions down another person’s throat if they didn’t agree with her. It was true that she often stated her thoughts about something even when her friends didn’t particularly want to hear it, but she had always been rather blunt. She also often didn’t think before she acted, but that was beside the point at the moment and just another of the many aspects of her personality.

She had noticed in passing that Jono had seemed somewhat happier or at least more noticeably content ever since the power swap. It made her wonder what might happen to him once everyone got their usual powers back. Tabby shook those thoughts out of her head and laughed when he commented on being able to eat again. “That must be a great experience.” She replied good naturedly, “I’m not really sure how I would deal with not being able to eat. I like food.” It was the truth, but some people might be somewhat surprised to hear that from her. She was pretty skinny, mostly naturally, but her regular workouts in the gym and the danger room helped her keep what she had for a figure.

Tabitha giggled once again as she watched her companion catch a snowflake on his tongue, “Of course it’s cold!” She exclaimed, a bright grin continued to curve her lips, “It’d be weird if it was hot.” Her words had a teasing edge to them, so she hoped Jono didn’t think that she was insulting him or anything, probably not.

“Well it’s probably a bit over the top, but could be a lot worse than it is.” She explained, “It’s full of some of the more stereotypical things from the fifties, but decorated fairly tastefully.” The door was opened as she finished her explanation. “I’m glad you like it.” She said and then winked, “But I probably would make you stay anyway even if you didn’t!” They were already in the restaurant, so it would be rude to leave before ordering anything.

Her blue eyes did another quick scan of the restaurant, but Jono found an empty booth before she did and placed one of his arms around her shoulder, which she allowed with a soft smile. Tabby did raise one thin brow at his offer to take her coat and his gentlemanly manners. She supposed he was British, and she didn’t really mind, but she wasn’t generally the sort of girl who expected a guy to hold the door open for her or pull her chair out for her to sit in.

“It’s pretty warm in here, so I suppose I could let you take my coat.” She chuckled and then allowed him to take her coat. She then took a seat in the booth her denim clad butt sliding slightly on the worn, faux leather seats. There was a menu already on the table, so she picked it up and peeked inside as she waited for Jono to take his own seat.

Jono did happen to notice Tabby raise her eyebrow at his question of taking her coat for her and overall being a gentleman. Her response made him smile and as she slid her arms out he took her coat and rested it on the hook above the booth. "Hey now, ye can't fault me for being a gentleman," he replied as he took his long coat off and draped it on a hook as well "I was raised to always treat women with respect. Though I could see how that can come across as weird, especially in this day and age when being a gentleman is seen as creepy. Ah well." Slipping into the booth across from Tabby, Jono took his cellphone out of his pocket and placed it on the table watching as she glanced at a menu.

"So what looks good? I've been eating almost anything I can get my hands on," he said with a slight chuckle "You'd be surprised at how not eating has led me to want to eat everything. So many missed flavours. While I had my flame I could taste some things if I actually ate anything. Though now I can actually taste the seasoning of a steak, or the sugar in a coke, or hell anything. It's just nice te be able te talk normally and eat really. Though having a torso with a six pack is always nice to." The last sentence was said with a smile and wink at Tabby, before he burst into laughter. It felt so good for him to laugh, actually laugh. To hear the sound echoing in his ribs. RIBS. That he actually had now. It was still surreal to him, but a good surreal. He had put the thought of his power returning outside of his mind, but he believed now that he was a little more disciplined he could contain his furnace a little better.

Tilting his head to the side, Jono looked at Tabby but his mind was elsewhere. When he spoke again it was in a soft tone "This power swap thing, has given me alot to think about. Hell it's given me a body again, one thing I never thought I would ever get back." Lacing his fingers on the table he looked at them briefly, "yet here I am with a full body and I would be lying if I said I wasn't worried about the future. Will I lose my chest again or will I be able to keep it contained," he said somberly before looking at her with a slight smile "ah well, looks like I'll have te wait and see." Snatching up a menu also, Jono swept his brown eyes over it before selecting a coke and a burger. It was simple quick and delicious, and that's all he wanted. "Any other plans fer today?" he asked her as they waited for the server.

Tabitha giggled at his response to her raised brow, “I wouldn’t say it’s a fault,” she replied as Jono took her coat and hung it on one of the nearby hooks, “It’s actually kind of nice, just unusual in comparison to some of the other guys I’ve dated.” Not that they were necessarily dating, this was one of the first times they had actually gone out anywhere together, but they had spent some time together back at the mansion on multiple occasions. This was a bit of an experiment to see how things went between them in a date like situation. She was definitely enjoying herself and considering other such situations in the future. She laughed once again at his comment about how being a gentleman was seen in these modern times, “If it makes you feel any better I don’t think it’s creepy. I was just a little surprised.” She offered him a softer smile rather than one of her usual bright, mischievous grins.

After a moment Jono asked her what looked the best foods on the menu were and she set her own down, “Honestly I’ve probably been here so much that I don’t really need this menu.” She admitted and then answered his question, “They have amazing milkshakes here, like almost as good as sex!” She added the last part completely unabashedly and without any shame. Tabby had never been the sort of girl who was easily embarrassed and she tended to say whatever the hell was on her mind whether her friends appreciated it or not. “The burgers and fries are also good.” She added a moment later and reached up to take off her hat. Her hair was probably a mess, so she quickly ran her fingers through the long, wavy, blonde locks hoping to get them into some semblance of order.

Tabby listened to him talk about how much he was enjoying being able to truly taste food and smiled. It was definitely nice to see him so completely happy. She had to laugh when he added that it was also nice to have a well toned torso. “I think I might need proof of that.” She replied, a playful smirk curving her lips. It had been a little while since she had really flirted with anyone, though she always had a teasing tone around most of the male populace of the school or at least the ones that were close to her age. She just hadn’t decided that she had liked anyone in particular for a couple years now, and had been fairly happily single.

Jono was making eye contact with her, but for a few moments she could tell that he had gone all thoughtful, so she left him to it until he chose to speak to her again. She figured he probably had quite a bit to think about, so she wouldn’t interrupt. He finally began to speak once more, and she listened to what he had to say. Tabitha might be a fairly brash individual, but she was a good enough friend to know when to shut up and just offer a friendly ear. “Sometimes it’s better to focus on the present and enjoy the moment.” She finally said, another smile softening her pretty features. “Hell, maybe you’ll get lucky and be able to control your powers enough now that that won’t happen again.”

Tabby had a good idea of what she was going to order, a burger, spicy curly fries and one of the diner’s delicious strawberry milkshakes. “I hadn’t actually thought about it.” She admitted when he asked her what her plans for the rest of the day were, “I might go down to the gym once we get back to the mansion or a might try to watch one of the shows a friend recommended or I might do something completely different!” She laughed and grinned brightly, “It all depends on how I’m feeling. What about you?” She asked in turn, just as a waiter came over to take their orders.

"Well I am glad I can be a little different than some regular blokes," he replied to her as she spoke about other guys she had dated. Jono didn't really consider this a date, but he definitely wouldn't turn it down if it was one. Tabby was always an interesting woman to hang out with. She was funny, smart, intelligent, witty and beautiful, many things Jono appreciated in a woman. Her laughter was pleasant to his ears when he talked about how being a gentleman in this day and age was something different. "Well I am glad that I caught you by surprise and it wasn't creepy in any regard," he said with a chuckle.

When she said that the milkshakes were like sex, he burst out laughing and quickly put a hand to his mouth. Looking around in embarrassment, Jono smiled at her with an amusing look in his eyes. "Just as good as sex? Well that certainly sounds like a good milkshake," he commented with another laugh "I'm not entirely sure if that's a good thing, but I'm going to guess that it is. Well good to hear that the burger and fries are good." It was nice to just hang out with a person's friend and just enjoy the little things in life. Like movies, food and just overall have an enjoyable time. To Jono it was a great time and he was thoroughly enjoying the afternoon as well as the movie itself; but he was enjoying the company more then anything else.

Her comment about needing to see his abs followed by her smirk made Jono smile as well. He definitely didn't mind the flirting between the two of them, it was actually nice to flirt with someone. When he usually interacted with the female gender, Jono would say or be a little flirty regardless. This was actual flirting and he was certainly enjoying it. "Well if ye want proof I can definitely give it te ya," he said as he sat up slightly and lifted his shirt. He gave her a quick flash of his abs, pecs and obliques before dropping it back down. "How was that fer proof? Good or bad?" he asked her with a wide pearly white grin. Settling down again to get comfortable, Jono smiled at Tabby with a big grin.

"Focus on the present and enjoy the moment eh? I think I can do that, besides present company is certainly enjoyable," he replied with more flirting. Though her next statement had him thinking for a few moments. It seemed like a perfectly reasonable idea, that he should be able to control it at least a little bit. "That actually doesn't sound like a bad idea, I may be able to control it this time around. Hell I've had enough years of practice with it," he replied with a confident grin. It was at that moment the waitress showed up and decided to take their orders. Quickly giving her what they wanted to eat, Jono turned back to Tabby.

"Well it sounds like ye have a multitude of choices to pick from," he said "as for me I have no real idea. Lately I've been catching up on some books I have to read, as well as writing music and playing my guitar more. It's nice to play it again after all this time. But besides this I had no real plans for anything. I'm more excited to just spend this time with you."

“Different is definitely good.” Tabitha replied with a wide grin, “Especially with the people you spend a lot of time with, because life would be boring if you always hung out with the same sort of people.” She liked to have a wide variety of different personality types when it came to her friends, though any boyfriends she had all had a few similar traits, both physical and personality wise. She had a bit of a type, but it wasn’t something that she could easily pinpoint. She just liked what she liked and left it at that.

She liked that Jono was a musician, on the intelligent side, and witty. She also liked the accent, especially though that she could hear him speak with her ears not just her mind. “I do like surprises.” She said after a moment with just the smallest hint of a smirk making her grin more mischievous. Tabby had decided that this wasn’t an official date for them, since her usual date choices involved something a bit more active. Like dancing or even going to a concert (was that active?), but she thought she might like to go on an actual one in the near future.

She couldn’t help but laugh as well at his reaction to her milkshake comment. She had hoped that would be the sort of reaction she would get. She smiled when he looked around in embarrassment and she thought it was actually quite adorable, which somehow made her more attracted to him. “I didn’t say just as good as sex, I said almost. I still haven’t found anything that’s quite as good as that.” She replied with a wink and another playful smirk. “It’s definitely a great milkshake.” She added after a moment, the smirk still playing on her lips. Tabitha was quite enjoying herself today and she was glad that she had asked Jono to go with her to the movie with her that afternoon.

Tabby hadn’t actually been expecting him to show her his abs. She had mostly been joking, despite being pretty curious about it. She certainly didn’t complain when he sat up slightly and flashed an expanse of very nicely toned torso. Once he dropped his shirt back down she shifted her blue gaze back up to meet his and gave him an appreciative smile. “Good, definitely good...!” She replied after a moment and did take one quick look at the menu, just to make sure she did indeed know what she wanted to eat for sure.

“That’s how I tend to live life. I can’t say that it’s always worked in every situation but generally it has.” She had to admit with a laugh, which might not be entirely comforting. “I have to say I’m definitely enjoying today as well. I’m glad you decided to come to the movie with me.” Tabby said in agreement, “We should do something like this again sometime.” She added, somewhat innocently, but with her nothing was entirely innocent.

Jono then commented that he thought he might be able to control his powers this time around because he had years of practice at this point. “My powers aren’t the most powerful, but I think I’m lucky in a way since they are easily hidden. I can’t imagine having powers like yours, all the respect to you.” She said, a soft look on her pretty face, “Though it did take me a few years to get the control I have over mine now.” She left that particular train of conversation there, as the waitress had just come over to take their orders and not everyone was comfortable with mutants in North Salem. Tabitha ordered exactly what she had been thinking, despite having looked at the menu anyway, but she really wanted that milkshake and fries.

“Actually I probably won’t go to the gym tonight. I usually go mid-afternoon-ish, ‘cause there’s less people around then and I can basically do whatever I want.” She added after her first comment. She then listened as Jono told her about what his potential plans for later tonight might be. He mentioned that besides playing the guitar he also wrote some music, “You write music too?” She asked, her interest piqued, “I would love to hear one of those songs sometime!” She replied, enthusiastically, “Maybe you could give me a private concert one of these days.” She winked once again and gave him another bright, flirtatious grin.

"Different is good, always good in my opinion. It's nice to have different friends and when you live at a school for mutants your always sure to find something different," he commented back to her. He was certainly enjoying the time after the movie, hanging out with Tabby and just talking. Checking his phone, he caught sight of the time and he smiled as it was only like 5:30. There was still plenty of time for them to eat and then head back to the mansion in good time. He might have to dust off his car from the snow, but he really didn't care. Nodding at her comment about surprises, Jono smiled at her watching as the waitress showed up and dropped off their beverages. Taking a sip of his coke he smiled at her as she got her milkshake.

"Oh I know you said it was almost as good as sex, but I got the meaning. I bet it's a great shake," he said replying to her as she got her shake. The smile that she gave him after he flashed her his abs, was a beautiful one and he smiled in response. It was quiet for a little bit, before she started to talk about how she lived her life by that sentiment and how she was glad that he had come out with her. "Thank you for the invite, if I hadn't I probably would have stayed in my apartment and just hung out maybe watching tv or playing my guitar. As for doing this again, I am definitely down for spending some more time together."

Her talk about powers made him smile. "Your powers are pretty powerful if you don't mind me saying. You create beautiful explosions, that are super cool in my opinion," he said with a slight blush across his face "oh I take no offense to it. It was tough to learn how to deal with my chest missing and replaced with flame, but I got used to it and progressed. Though alot of the time I was afraid of it. I didn't even know how to properly deal with it till I came to the mansion. Though that was long ago in the past and today is now, so let's look forward." The comment about her going to the gym usually in the afternoon made sense to Jono. "Yeah most people don't generally go to the gym in the middle of the afternoon, which is always a good time to do stuff," he said with a smile.

When she exclaimed that she didn't know that he wrote his own songs, Jono chuckled at her. "Yeah I've started to kinda write my own stuff. I used to just play songs that people liked, but I figured that with everything that has happened I figured that I would try and start writing my own songs," he replied to her "and I would love to show you some of my songs. As for a private concert I'm sure I could arrange something, it would be nice to share with someone." Just as he finished, the waitress returned with their food and the dug into the delicious burgers and food continuing their conversations before leaving into the night.

End.
