Danger Room
_____________________

Piotr stepped into the danger room, once again musing on how happy he was that his powers were his own. He'd hated being a precog; hated the fact that instead of being able to overcome the migraines and adapt to the power, he had given up and slapped on a null cuff in order to achieve peace and quiet. Piotr also hated the fact that he had become an irritable man to everyone, including his own son.

Nuya had initially been unsure how to react to papa being mad a lot, but eventually he came to understand that he wasn't the person his dad was really mad at. But that was all before. Today he was the Colossus once more, and he was going to revel in it. By doing a bit of extreme skydiving.

Piotr typed in the code for a program he'd come up with after he'd began dating Laynia what felt like so long ago. The briefest change of emotion flickered across his eyes as he thought about her, and just like that he was watching the platform he was standing on rise nearly to the top of the danger room's space. Fifteen square feet of turbines below the floor began to power up, an uprush of air beginning to build as the hard-light holograms overlaid the danger room.

Piotr stood on the helicarrier, the view of New York below the edge of the vessel, watching as npc SHIELD agents went about their generic tasks. He saw Laynia and Cain walking across the tarmac, took a quick note that he should get Sarah to help him update the program, and then there was an explosion, the helicarrier dipping to one side in conjunction to the danger room's platform he stood upon.

As always, Piotr tried to shift his balance to compensate, even diving in the opposite direction of the incline to keep from falling away, but as always, eventually it was too steep and he slid off the platform. Piotr was now falling, seemingly out of the air with New York rushing up to meet him, and the power generated from the turbines caught him, despite his weight.

The Russian reoriented himself as quick as he could, took in his surroundings, and powered up as the sensation of falling seemed to speed up. Closer and closer to the ground he fell, turning a flip to put his feet below him and brace for landing. As designed, the platform he was floating over shot upwards at the speed of terminal velocity to smash into him at force. A crater developed under his feet, and the cars nearest him crumpled in the shockwave, their alarms blaring at the effrontery of being damaged. Piotr stood up, grinning like a madman as the holograms faded away while the platform lowered back into place.

"Sixty-five seconds of free fall at terminal velocity. Baumgartner here I come." Piotr said as he typed in commands to lengthen the simulation. The sound of the danger room doors caused him to glance that way and give a nod of welcome.

"Want to give it a try, Tovarisch?"

Danger Room sessions were always a blast. Sometimes, they were literally a blast. The session running in the Danger Room currently included a very large blast, one of those ear-ringing discharges that made one cringe. Clarice stood on the sidewalk of a populated New York street, slightly hunkered down, peering up at the metal beast above. Soaring high up in the air was the SHIELD helicarrier, one of the many roaming bases that the organization had. The ground-shaking detonation was from one of the large engines that kept the flying platform in the air. It began to dip, planes, people, and debris sliding off of it. “It’s just a simulation, Clarice. Keep your cool.” It was hard to see such a disaster and not jump into action.

This evening, Blink was spending this session with Piotr Rasputin, an X-Man she’d come rather close to over her time at the institute. He was one of the many mutants whose powers had been switched with that of another at the school due to a new mutant. He’d gone from being an incredibly durable man to one whom could see the future. It was clearly a drastic change, so it wasn’t surprising that he wanted to get into the Danger Room as soon as he could once his powers were switched back. Clarice had shown interest in joining him, considering they hadn’t done much together recently. What she didn’t know was that he had a particular… type of session he would want to be doing.

As she stared up at the falling helicarrier, squinting her eyes to get past the sun’s glare, she looked for her partner. A large shining object grabbed her attention, it clearly being Piotr. Apparently, he had an interest in skydiving, though he had his own way of doing it; that way didn’t include a parachute. Clarice could definitely see the fun in it, the thrill of gravity quickly pulling you down. With that in mind, the pink-skinned girl was definitely down for giving it a try.

In his metal form, the Russian started getting closer and closer, leading the butterflies in the girl’s stomach to flutter even more. Sure, it was fun, but the no parachute part still worried her for some reason. In fact, she didn’t even realize that her nerves led her to generating a javelin, held in her right hand, ready to open a portal if Piotr needed it. He was strong enough to take whatever impact came with the fall, but precautions didn’t hurt.

With a loud thud, he landed on the ground, a crater forming in the pavement beneath his feet. Cars practically bounced in their places, alarms ringing. As soon as he had landed, the simulation ended; as it ended, the butterflies went away.

"Sixty-five seconds of free fall at terminal velocity. Baumgartner here I come. Want to give it a try, Tovarisch?"

Grinning, the teleporter replied. “Of course I do. Just… go easy on me this first round.”

Restlessness was becoming a companion, it seemed for the young Russian, Artyom Skrytyy. A whole year had passed since he came home to the school, and most of it, he was guilty of spending it in not much other than monotony and corresponding with his relatives, not that the latter was ever an issue. He was beginning to feel the strain of doing nothing, a physical mutant's true worst enemy. His legs had somuch desire to spring free and launch him miles now, that at every chance the young man got, he would be hurling himself skyward at dawn every day for about an hour. But there was nothing to that now, no discipline, no danger. So he'd sought out ways to perfect his technique and also keep himself busy. He'd always been extended the offer by Piotr to train with him. A fellow Russian and by extension what could be considered as Artyom's adopted older brother, not to mention that when he feels the aches from not seeing the motherland, he'd turn to Piotr for company, as the two would almost never speak any English at all in conversations alone.

He wanted to seek him out today, to finally accept that offer extended to him so many moons ago. He started where he knew he'd be: The Danger room. Artyom had seldom navigated this part of the Mansion before now, and while being part of Legacy squad might have given him better membership in the place, he was by attendance alone the most scarce member of the group probably. As he came to the doors, and they slipped open, he realized he wasn't the only one here. Fellow Legacy, Blink was here and the massive Piotr were looking just about ready to start a new simulation. Artyom smiled for the first time in a long time since his return. This simulation looked to be right up his alley.

"Privetstvuyu druz'ya." He'd say, greeting the two of them in his mother tongue. He was nothing if not skilled in the language thanks to his mother. "I see you've just about started, would I be imposing if I joined the two of you? I need to do something, or I'll go stir crazy." He said with a nod, stepping towards them. "It would seem that this is my kind of practice."

There were often times when the possibilities of a new mutants powers were uncertain. While some mutants got fairly simple powers, like shooting lasers from your eyes, or having wings that can be used to fly, or simply a cosmetic appearance that brought no true science defying powers, there were the other type of mutant, where it felt like the sky was the limit.

And Pearce had always felt like one of them. He's been to the school for some time now sure, but to be honest, he still felt like he hadn't probed every detail of what his x-gene gifted him. The whole power swap thing that happened in February also didn't help. So that was why Pearce was about to enter the Danger room. If there was one way to find a new way to use your powers, it would be to place yourself in a different environment from what you're used to.

So what environment could he place himself in?

Pearce entered the Danger room, silent as he brainstormed. Maybe a rain forest? No something harsher. Like Antarctica? No something even harsher, like a blizzard in Antarctica! Or maybe the complete opposite. Like a trip to a simulation of the hottest desert on the planet, or maybe something even more dangerous, like the inside of a volcano!

Hey, they didn't call it the Danger Room for nothing.

As Pearce neared the group of people already in the Danger room, it soon became apparent that a session had already ended.

"Sixty-five seconds of free fall at terminal velocity. Baumgartner here I come. Want to give it a try, Tovarisch?"

The two blue spots on Pearce's head instantly went wide upon hearing that sentence. Of course, an aerial environment. Or maybe something harsher, like getting spun around in an out of control Quinjet, being crushed by the high G-Oh forget it. This would be fine.

"Hellllooo people." Pearce said to Blink and Vault as he walked over to Piotr.

"So, I'm not sure if Cyclops allows you to do this to students, but I'd love to get sent into a sixty-five second free-fall. Mind if I join you guys in your simulation?" Pearce asked Piotr, assuming he was the one in charge of this danger room session, being the only X-Men in the room currently.

This evening, Blink was spending this session with Piotr Rasputin. She was a teleporter who had come rather close to him over time. While they didn't have the same methods in powers, Piotr still came to Blink whenever he needed to understand his sister better, but wasn't able to communicate well with her. Today, though, Clarice had shown interest in joining him in the Danger Room; and considering they hadn’t done much together recently, he'd smiled and invited her. His session undoubtedly surprised her, judging by her face when he powered up the simulation.

After he'd landed and asked if she wanted to try, and grinned at both the javelin she was holding and at her answer.

“Of course I do. Just… go easy on me this first round.”

"Privetstvuyu druz'ya. I see you've just about started, would I be imposing if I joined the two of you? I need to do something, or I'll go stir crazy. It would seem that this is my kind of practice."

"Artyom! Dobro pozhalovat' v Danger Room! So glad you decided to finally show up." Piotr smiled, patting the younger Russian on the shoulder. "I didn't think you'd ever come down. Clarice, you know Artyom, I'm sure?"

"Hellllooo people... So, I'm not sure if Cyclops allows you to do this to students, but I'd love to get sent into a sixty-five second free-fall. Mind if I join you guys in your simulation?"

"Pearce," Piotr said, after a moment of trying to remember who the student was. The boy's name finally registered as one of the other mutants who had suffered from being victim to the power swap incident.

"Don't worry, Pearce. If Cyclops trusts these two's lives in my hands, he'll not be upset to let me put you in relative danger too." Piotr laughed at his own joke, although most of the time he was the only one laughing at his jokes.

"Alright, then," he said, clapping his metal hands together, "there's no point in standing around. Take a spot on the platform." He indicated the platform finally resting itself back into its ace on the floor, the holograms not yet returned.

As they rose into the air, Piotr explained the situation to them.

"The free fall is mostly an illusion. All the impact comes from the platforms rising up to meet you. They only raise about one to two feet off the ground when they do, but make no mistake. You're hitting that platform with all the force of terminal velocity." The holograms powered on as he examined the faces of the three before him, and before they'd even finished rendering, he'd decided that they weren't going to freak out before the session truly began.

"Oh, and before we get started, there's one more thing to go over..." And he let the platform tilt to nearly ninety degrees while they were eagerly listening to what he said.

After the simulation had faded away, the doors to the Danger Room slid open. Standing at the entrance of the room was Vault.

"Privetstvuyu druz'ya. I see you've just about started, would I be imposing if I joined the two of you? I need to do something, or I'll go stir crazy. It would seem that this is my kind of practice."

Clarice chuckled at the man She too had been feeling that anxiousness. Sure, she had her responsibilities. Those responsibilities weren’t always the most exciting of things to partake in though.

"Artyom! Dobro pozhalovat' v Danger Room! So glad you decided to finally show up." Piotr replied, patting the younger Russian on the shoulder. It were times like these that the teleporter wished she knew another language. She’d been around Piotr enough to recognize this as an exchange of greetings, but if they carried on in Russian, she’d have to go grab her own handy-dandy Cypher from upstairs.

"I didn't think you'd ever come down. Clarice, you know Artyom, I'm sure?"

Looking over at the jumping mutant, she grinned. “Of course I do.” Clarice and Artyom were both members of the Legacy Squad. They often weren’t ever partnered together, but she still felt comfortable with him.

Not two seconds after she’s replied, the Danger Room doors opened once more, this time revealing a glowing blue body. He was a student who went by the codename of Cyberlink due to his technopathic nature. He was really quite fascinating.

"Hellllooo people... So, I'm not sure if Cyclops allows you to do this to students, but I'd love to get sent into a sixty-five second free-fall. Mind if I join you guys in your simulation?" Piotr replied by stating that if Scott trusted him with the lives of Artyom and Clarice, he wouldn’t mind his joining.

“And what Scott doesn’t know won’t hurt him.” she added on, winking at the boy. The odds were, though, that he’d probably find out of this simulation regardless if they told him or not. After all, the training facility had hidden cameras in it for a reason.

Piotr then directed the student to the platform that was lowering. Clarice too walked over to stand on it. As she tried to push away and hide any nervous feeling she may have been feeling, she couldn’t help but wonder if Pearce would even be able to feel the effects of falling from the sky. She didn’t know much about him really, but if he’d made the decision to join them, he must expect to feel something.

To prepare the three newbies for the simulation, Piotr explained just how it all worked. The Danger Room’s illusions and holographic nature played the biggest part in the senses they’d feel. It was crazy to think about this one room being able to even do that. The holograms powered to life, making it seem as if they were on a platform thousands of feet above the surface of the Earth.

"Oh, and before we get started, there's one more thing to go over..."

Clarice looked over at the metal man curiously. At that exact moment, the platform they were on began to tilt. A look of shock set on to Clarice’s face as her feet began to slide down the platform. “You little sh-!” She shouted over the sound of the wind. Deciding to initiate the fall on her own, she leaned her weight forward, then running down the platform before kicking off of it.
