"Good lord!" She exclaimed with a short, nearly surprised chuckle. "It makes me glad I kept to myself in my younger years. Sounds much funnier in the retelling, I'm sure." She grinned. "I hope you got him back…or at least nipped him in the butt."

She liked the thought of that really, snickering to herself as she imagined Rahne wolfing it up and chasing Jamie down until she knocked the…well Jamies, out of him. She was still smirking about it as Rahne checked out her slim belly and made the promise that she'd pig out to make her feel better. And she held it to it. Mostly Avery hoped that the whole morning sickness would ween off soon.

"If it will save you ego, I will do anything," She teased with a wink. "We both know how much I like sweets and desserts, and they are twins after all, chances are I'm going to be big at some point. I'm just going to savour the moment."

They both focused in on wee Greg for a moment, watching him as he played as more puppy than babe. Personally she thought it was kind of cute. After all, weren't children the purest form of honesty? It was great that he embraced his mutation, it would always be a part of him and hopefully he would never find himself ashamed of that. She found herself giggling and Rahne told her not to give heed to him, explaining that his attention span was short. But then, what child's wasn't?

"I'm sure I just worry too much. Almost two years is nae such a difference, aye? Ye'd best be ready, speakin' of that. Ye thought ye worried too much before - now everything is gonna make ye worry."

"Uuuugh don't remind me." Avery groaned and placed her head in her hands. "I've already started. Theres so much to worry about at this stage. So Much! It's those damn books, you know. You read them to get more informed about whats going on in there and then you find out theres things to worry about that as a nurse I hadn't even considered." She rolled her eyes at herself and sighed. "Or maybe being a mom will mellow me out a little. Who knows, this whole unexpected family thing might be a good thing." She said casually but was clearly joking. "But all and all, I think the kids'll get along. We're their moms. We'll make them."

And speaking of moms she couldn't help but as about Rahne's biological mom. She was happy to hear that their relationship was well enough even if she did wrinkle her nose at the thought of Rahne ever leaving to live with the little clan. She was right to feel like her place was here because it was. She had made her own little family within the large X-Man one. She was not only a part of the team but an educator and a dear friend to many. Avery would be heart broken if she decided to just uproot and leave. Regardless she nodded when she brought up visiting Meghan and her clan. "Theres no harm in visiting," She agreed. "I'm sure she'd be happy enough with that."

She had a little chuckle then as Rahne expected that her family complications were nothing compared to her own. Sure, things had been crazy in the past and it caused her's a Pietro's relationship to be bumpy, but lately, after the illuminati business died down, things had been great and life had been good to them. So she couldn't help but reply before she tipped up her cup, "Oh its not so bad."

"Speakin' of, though - two o' ye got a plan in place in case gran'dad decides t' rear his helmeted head up an' get involved?"

Avery's eyebrows quirked at that before they became knitted with thought. "No…everything is a bit new still, haven't gotten to that one yet." She confessed with a half laugh. "We don't tend to talk about him much. I tip toe around it really because I honestly I hate to hear his name and I'd punch him square in the nose if I had the chance." Basically what it boiled down to was that Avery blamed him for everything bad that's ever happened to Pietro and in turn, their relationship. So whenever Magneto topic came up it really rustled Avery's jimmies.

"Besides, he's got three grandkids he doesn't visit now. I don't know why our two would be any different and as far as I'm concerned he forfeited his rights to be 'involved' the day he hurt Pietro." A thick cinnamon scent encircled her just thinking about it. "It would have to be an awful extreme sort of circumstance to make me change my mind. And I honestly don't think that Pietro is too eager to get involved with him again…I think…mostly. Wherever in the world that man is theres nothing he can do to get involved, unless we wanted him to, not when we have both the X-Men and the Defenders watching over us. Actually, after saying that, I'm not worried about him at all."

"I actually make it a strict policy - no butt-biting," Rahne said with a smirk, shaking her head. "'Cept if it's a nice rump roast. Then I'll absolutely devour it."

Rahne sat back, taking a breath and letting out with a sharp huff of air.
"Oh, I avoided those books like they were plague-ridden," Rahne said. "I mean, they've got nothin' about when yuir baby starts chewin' on the kitchen table, or what t' do when yuir baby starts photosynthesizing - nae sure that's a word, but you get it - we've got so many bizarre an' unique situations here that have never been written about - we start delvin' into the baby books, we'll be ready for all the wrong stuff."

Taking a sip from her now-almost-empty cup, Rahne glanced down at it, thinking for a moment. Did she want a top-off? Yes, yes she absolutely did. She picked up the pot and poured some more tea into her cup, the steam wafting off of the top and swirling in the air.

"Maybe you could come too. 'Tis odd to me now that so many of muh friends have never been to my old stomping grounds. See the old research centre, find my old adventure spots - it would be nice. Muir really is a lovely island, if ye can stand cold, rainy winters. But 'tis gorgeous in the summer. Nae too hot, but nae cold neither. Just right. An' when the sea breeze comes in..."

Rahne, on one hand, really did want to show her friend to her old home. It was a part of her, it was where she grew up, and an important part of how she came to be who she was. But she also wanted some non-lupine representation if she ever went, just to show them what her life was really like. Why she couldn't walk away from it.

The father-in-law issue was, clearly a sensitive topic. But one she felt was important to be ready for. Magneto was unpredictable, unstable, and frighteningly powerful. Hopefully, Avery was correct. Rahne prayed that was the case. But as sure as Alex and Lorna had plans in case grandpa showed, she hoped Pietro and Avery did too.

"Well, no matter what, ye've got me on yuir side. All jokes aside, I'm thrilled for ye, and anything you need from me, ye've got it, no questions asked. I'll not even asked to have a twin named for me or anythin' of the sort."

She tossed in one more wink, with a smirk that showed the slightest bit of teeth.

Avery nodded to Rahne's words, finishing up her tea but keeping it in her lap for fear of little hands. "You're right. You're so right." She agreed with a sigh. "But it's hard not to. I figured that when we got to having kids, I'd have a little more reading done, that I'd be a little more prepared. Now I'm already three months in and I feel like I'm diving in headlong and blind. But the thing is, you're right. The chances of having non-mutant babies is slim to none and we both known that adding being mutants onto being babies will most likely come with a new set of surprises." She rested her head back onto her chair and looked up at the ceiling. "It's going to be a mess for the first little bit."

As they continued talking about Rahne going to visit her mother Meghan, she suggested that Avery come too. You could see her maul the idea over in her head as her canine friend mentioned some of it's better points. She smiled as Rahne spoke about the breeze and let out a wistful sing. "Ohhhh…that would be nice," She almost swooned. "Honestly it sounds a lot like where I come from. I mean, it's fine here and all and New York is right next to the ocean…but it's just not the same. The smells isn't like what I grew up with. I'd be happy to go with you. Just set the date. It can be like a family outing." Avery was big on travel, though she doubt that'll be the case in a few months when she was bigger, but more so it seemed that Rahne would like to have her gal pal along for a trip such as this and after all she had done for her, it was the least she could do to support her for a change.

The conversation moved on to her family and the father-in-law she hoped never to see, at least not anytime soon. While she doubted that he'd come out of shadows once the news of his grandchildren got out, there was still a small chance that he might stick his nose in Pietro's business one day. Initially it was a thought that vexed her but the more she thought about it the more it brought a shiver to her spine. And with that she decided to bring it up to Pietro soon just in case. After all, Avery did have a sort of 'better safe than sorry' motto to her.

"Well, no matter what, ye've got me on yuir side. All jokes aside, I'm thrilled for ye, and anything you need from me, ye've got it, no questions asked. I'll not even asked to have a twin named for me or anythin' of the sort.

"Oh of course you wouldn't," Avery laid on the sarcasm heavy before she let out a little laugh. "But thank you. I'll need all the help I can get."

She reached for one of the tea biscuits fancying a nibble as she pinched off a piece. "We haven't really talked names yet since it's a bit early. I've got about eight more weeks until a regular ultrasound to see what they are, but we're pretty sure it's girls. I think we'll decide on a name then. And even if we don't name one Rahne, it makes a lovely middle name, I think." The minty nurse winked at her friend, sweeping out her hands in a "see your name in lights" gesture. "No, no seriously, just listen to it like this: Avery Rahne Maximoff. Doesn't that have a nice ring to it. It'd probably go nice with a lot of names like…umm…uhhh…Oh! 'Lillian Rahne Maximoff' Sounds nice right? …Or well, something like that. It's like a new sort of Ann or Marie kind of names. Err…just don't tell Kyle. He'll be jealous that he doesn't get anyone named after him." She smirked.

"Come to think of it, I'd rather keep this all in the family at least until I hit second trimester and all is well. And since your about as close as family as I've got, I knew you won't spill the beans on me. Plus people fuss over pregnant woman and I hope to avoid that for as long as I can before everyones telling me 'take it easy'. I'd still wrestling the idea not being able to go X-Maning until the twins a born and a bit old. That's going to be tough." She confessed with a half pout.

"My guess? An' this is from also talkin' t' my own mum, is that ye're never prepared for the first one. Lord knows Jack and I weren't. We spent maybe a good two months convinced it was too much, panicked, unable t' sleep at night. It was awful."

Fast as a whip her arms shot out, catching Greg mid-leap just before he smashed into the coffee table their teas and cookies were organized on, her knee bumping it a bit and causing some tea to spill onto the tray it was resting on. Greg, for his part, found this hilarious, giggling maniacally as he wriggled in his mom's arms. She took the opportunity to grab him close and attack, tickling his rib cage with her fingers as she pretended to bite into his neck, making mock growling noises as she did, intensifying his laughter.

"Sometimes I still feel unready, but ye know. We're more prepared than we think we are. Soon, ye'll have two beautiful bouncing babies, maybe boys, maybe girls, maybe one of each, and ye'll realize that ye have every tool ye need - even if it gets overwhelming - a lot."

Rahne grinned, settling down a bit but not quite letting her boy down yet.
"Family vacations. Who'd a' thought in a million years we'd get the option to even consider that? Oh - word of warning - I think they might be nudists. Hippy, pagan werewolf nudists."

Rahne nodded her head as Avery went over naming options.
"So ye're thinkin' girls, then. I hope so. I swear, 'tween this wee stinker an' Nuya an' Nate, we're practically swimmin' in baby boys. It'd be good to get some wee girls in th' mix, aye?"

Rahne chuckled, holding on despite Greg's squirming.
"I'd kinda hoped for a girl right off the bat, t' be honest. Not that I'm complaining about who I got, but still. Even if that would'a meant potential dad-maulings of teenage boys when the time came. I get the distinct feeling that Jack would be crazy protective of any daughter of his."

Nodding her head sharply, Rahne confirmed on Avery's request.
"Of course, of course. Mum's the word, however hard it may be. Two o' ye deserve t' let people know at yuir own pace. An' believe me, I know full well how hard it'll be. Ye remember when I tried to fit into muh uniform an' cried for far too long 'cause I could nae zip it up past the baby belly?"

Avery grinned as she watched Rahne snuggle and tickle Greg while she tried to give her bestie the best parenting answers that she could. Honestly Rahne was still new at it. Sure she had a handle on the baby routine but eventually it would change and new obstacles would arise that she wouldn't know how to handle off the bat. It seemed that they were all in the dark in the beginning and half of being a parent was trial and error. Even in known this, it didn't alleviate Avery's worries. Normally she could manage to go with the flow and take things as they came but this here, two tiny lives in her hands to mould and send out into the world, this was a very important thing.

But at least she wasn't alone in this. She could worry as much she liked but she would always know there was a boat load of people who have her back, Rahne being among the top. "You're probably right. No ones perfect, no ones gonna know what the right way to parent right out of the gates. But people have been having babies for centuries without books and baby Einstein, I suppose I can do it too eh?" Avery smirked, not totally understanding the sleepless nights that wasn't just caused by the baby's frequent awakenings but sometimes the worries of why he was so quiet or why he still sleeping. However she soon would.

"Family vacations. Who'd a' thought in a million years we'd get the option to even consider that? Oh - word of warning - I think they might be nudists. Hippy, pagan werewolf nudists."

Avery smiled and gave a little shrug at first until the warning came. The smile fell from her face as she was a rather modest person at times and shied away from nudity, yet at the same time one could see the teasing in her violet eyes. "Uuuhhh, is it too late to change my mind?" She said with deadpan expression before she cracked. "I think I can deal, but if I run off all beet faced, you'll know why." She giggled again taking another bit of her tea biscuit, then frowned with slight amusement. "And you're right, it does feel odd to talk about family vacations. Or vacations period. I mean in the past, what was our biggest vacation? Our stay in the Savage Lands because we were attacked and our house blown up? Some vacation. Yet everything has been right in the world for well over a year now, maybe we're finally getting that peace that we so desperately deserve, minus a few bumps here and there. Maybe it's time for us all to start thinking about taking vacations. We've certainly earned it. And confession? I like the sound of bagpipes." She cheekily flashed Rahne a smile.

Moving onto to babies names, Avery also confessed that they believed that the twins would be girls. Rahne thought it would be great what with the new generation of toddler X-Men were all boys so far and Avery thought it was a nice thought to have older cousins (by blood and honorary) to look out for the girls when they got older and to play with just as she hadn't with her cousins growing up. "I kinda think that every woman wants a little girl at some point. Ya know what I mean, theres a little person that you guys made thats a piece of you and Jack…yet theres always a part of you that wants a tiny version of yourself. The bight side of it is, as Poppy Doyle used to say "wit boys deres only one bird ya've gotta worry 'bout but wit girls ya gotta worry 'bout em all."" Avery quoted, pulling out her thick irish-newfie accent to mimic her grandfather.

"I imagine that Pietro will be protective over the twins as he is over his sisters and myself, only doubly so. Lord knows that if they're gifted with their speed, he'll be the only one that'll be able to keep them in their place." She paused as she thought about it. "On the other hand he does like to cater to the women in his family so he just might be in a world of trouble with "Daddy pleeeeease" and the like. He'll really have to summon his inner grump and stubbornness to survive them. …at least, that's how I imagine it." She chortled.

"Hee, hee, I remember. Poor thing you were and those suits have a lot of give too." She teased. "Thanks though, I mean I know I won't be able to keep it a secret for long but besides the whole wanting to be in the safe zone, I'm just not the type to shout things from the rooftop. They'll all find out eventually, even if it's me trying to squeeze in my suit this time. Honestly it seemed much funnier when it was you." Avery laughed though displeased by the thought. "Soon as people find out I just know I won't be able to do diddley-squat. I'm really going to miss going on our little recruitment missions. It's going to be really hard to stay behind, you know." She said, knowing full well that Rahne knew exactly how she felt but complained nonetheless.

"'Course ye can," Rahne said with an affirmative nod do her head. "Avery, an' I mean this with as much sincerely as anyone can muster - ye're one o'the most capable individuals I have ever met. If there is anyone on Earth who should nae need to worry about whether or not she can handle bein' a mum, it's you. Just you wait. Ye're gonna be Supermom, an' 'fore too long, ye'll wonder why ye ever doubted that ye could do it."

Rahne laughed at Avery's teasing, shaking her head.
"Yup, 'fraid so. But 'tis all well an' good, I'm sure they'll not expect ye to answer in kind. They may expect me to, but eh. Ye've alr in arse-eady seen muh fuzzy backside, so that'll be nothin' too terrifying for ye."

She shook her head with a sigh.
"Last vacation I took, nae counting the honeymoon, was when Jack an' I took a nature retreat after the whole monster alien bug incident. An' that was far more about recuperation than vacation."

It was easy sometimes to forget the horrors they'd been through, the existential nightmares that turned their lives inside out. Especially when life was as good as it was now, in these beautiful quiet moments. It was just so easy.

"Oh, ye full well know that any daughter would melt Pietro's heart in an instant. All that hard exterior will wash away an' he'll be all gooshy an' doting."

Rahne knew all too well how hard it was to stay back. The moment she knew life was growing inside her, she got off the active X-Men roster, and it was quite some time before she could go back. There were times when that gnawed away at her. She had felt like a lump, a drain, a non-contributor.

"Ye'll be back in arse-kickin' shape 'fore ye know it. I had Dani t' help with that, ye'll have me."

Avery looked over to her canine friend endearingly as she bestowed confidence in her. Being still new for her there were lots of fears that crept in her mind. Pietro believed in her and stood like a pillar of strength by her side as they began onto the road of being new parents. Yet doubts still floated in her head that she would be able to do it and hearing Rahne's express her full confidence in her truly helped. She would have to just put on her brave face and tackle this with determination just like any other goal in her life that was worth fighting for. There was no room for fail here but it was comforting that those around her she held dear believed in her and if they believed that hard then certainly it had to be within her to do so.

She smiled softly at Rahne, "Thank you. You don't know how much it means to hear that. Half of this feels like a mental battle and I could use all the ego boosts I can get." She laughed a little and rolled her eyes to the rafters at herself.

Moving onto vacation talk, it looked like Avery had booked her a scottish trip for herself and Rahne teased that there was no backing out, nudists or not. "Hey hey now," the minty elf chuckled. "I've never once said I much cared for your fluffy arse…as much as I've seen it." She teased, interjecting before Rahne sighed. She confessed that she hadn't taken a 'vacation' since the Savage Land which was honestly not worth writing home to mom about. Avery couldn't help but sigh for her friend too. "That's awful. We'll have to make up for it now. Hopefully things will stay quiet and when summer comes you can do some more traveling. Greggy will be able to enjoy it more then too."

Then talking about the twins and how they would be twisting daddy around their fingers, she joked in good nature how it would be. It was hard to say who was going to get the worst of it, Avery who would no doubt play bad cop or Pietro who would constantly have his heartstrings played by his first borns.

"Oh, ye full well know that any daughter would melt Pietro's heart in an instant. All that hard exterior will wash away an' he'll be all gooshy an' doting." Rahne had predicted.

"Oh I hope so!" Avery replied immediately. "I mean, I know Pietro's not made of stone, but gosh, I just wanna see that look on his face. He's already good with kids and seeing him with them just makes my heart go all swoony. When I see moments like that, it's like when people say 'it looks good on you.' Being a dad looks good on Pietro. I can't wait to see his face when they're born….given I'm not too out of it."

And speaking of being out of it, Avery then expressed her woes of knowing her 'uselessness' was just around the corner and she didn't like it one bit. Who knew better this feeling than her best friend who had always been not only an essential teacher on staff but an active team member? Yet she had managed to be a mom, teacher and integrate herself back onto the team. Avery wanted this too. She wouldn't be satisfied by letting herself just be a mother of two and a wife even though there was nothing wrong with it. But if she could help it, she wanted to continue fulfilling her duties, being a nurse to care for her X-Man family and continue the hero life.

"I'm going to need you," She said suddenly. "You somehow managed it. I'm gonna need you to help me get my green tush back in shape. I generally hate the gym so I'm gonna need some motivation if you can spare the time." She winked.

"Oh, I know what it means, believe me," Rahne said with a chortle and a shake of her head. It sometimes felt like a lifetime ago she was going through this, other times just like yesterday, but at times her emotional state got so unstable and moody that the only recourses were consoling, or steering very clear. And the distinction between the two wasn't always very obvious.

"An' please, I have an absolutely phenomenal backside, an' ye know it," Rahne laughed, but if she was honest, pretty much every X-Man had it going on on some level. Must have been the rigorous physical activity, but even then the X-Men tended to just plain be good-looking people in general.

"It would be good. We all want our wee ones t' have as normal lives as possible," Rahne said with a sigh. "I worry 'bout that sometimes. That the world won't let our kids grow up happy an' healthy an' normal, but then... ye know. Happy an' healthy we can do. Normal is... well. Overrated, right?"

Rahne was a bit surprised, if she was honest with herself, at Avery's summation of Pietro's experience with kids. On one hand, how many kids had Pietro had experience with? He'd never really spent time in her classroom, with her students, definitely spent time with Alex and Lorna's boy, but who else?

"Well, then - we know f'r sure now that when we need free mummy time, Pietro's the babysitter t' go to, aye?" Rahne said with a little grin. "I usually jus' leave that t' Jack, but it'll be nice t' have a backup."

Rahne laughed, and shook her head.
"I've got all the advantages you've got, ye know. Ye'll be fine gettin' back to it," Rahne shrugged her shoulders. "'Sides, we're nae doin' the gym. The gym is awful. Smells, gets all sticky an' gross - no. I run ye through the woods, that's what I do."
