2:30 pm April 29, 2015 10,000 feet in the air _____________________ Nuya was being watched by his Little Snowflake, Illyana. He liked that Nuya had taken to his one real Aunt so quickly, despite her initial worries that she wouldn't be able to connect with the kid. Well, at least that was what he assumed she was worried about, when the face she first made upon meeting him wasn't the glad one he had expected. But they were becoming close, so that was great. Piotr had received word from his friend that the suits he'd brainstormed with them about were ready to test for real, and Piotr had rushed off to get them. Colossus also ran to pull the other two people, whom he had the suits designed for, away from the things they were doing with barely an explanation. "Ok, so we're not here to have fun. This isn't another free fall drop session." Piotr said over the headset inside the helmet that was still uncomfortable for him. The need to be heard clearly without shouting was more important than comfort at this time. Which also explained the suits that he and his two co-guinea pigs were wearing. "These are prototype flight suits. First of their kind to fully contract and deploy at the push of a button. And after enough tests in the danger room, here we are, ready to test it in a real world environment. The two of you are as indestructible as I am, which is why you are here with me. If all goes well, these groups will be simplified and added to our field gear. But if this goes to crap, the three of us will simply have a bumpy landing and go get some ice cream while the geniuses who developed this get to go back to the drawing board." Piotr pressed the emblem on his chest, and the suit pulled itself into the small compartment on his back. He inspected the connector nodes at his wrists and the backs of his knees, the nodes themselves guided the fabric in the compartment when it unfurled, ideally locking them to his limbs and giving him the ability to arrest his falling momentum and glide to safety. "Just, um, just don't forget to keep an eye on the Heads up display in your helmet. I've been told that you have to deploy the suit before five hundred feet. Otherwise we have to start again." Piotr strode toward the doors of the jet, and tapped the intercom twice to indicate that they were ready to drop. As the doors opened, he looked at his two companions, and gave them a thumbs up. Other than this partially being his idea he came up with after the training session he ran with a few students where they dropped off a tilting Helicarrier, this was also one of Piotr's favorite hobbies. He loved skydiving without a parachute, because for a brief time, he felt like he was flying. The impact on the ground was such a shock to his system at the end, that while it reminded him he couldn't fly, it also reinforced how strong he was, and after not having his strength for a time, it helped to have that kind of reassurance. The doors were open, and he grinned like a big metal doofus at the other two. "Ok, let's go Comrades!" Piotr said, stepping backward off the edge of the jet and into the open air, the jet and his friends looking like they were falling away from him at alarming speed. God, he loved being Colossus. |
