Her parents had come and gone, the tour was over, her things were here. This was where it started to get real. She dragged two suitcases into a room, struggling as she managed to shut the door behind her. She threw one on the bed, and opened it - clothes and shoes. All the boring stuff. Roam was tempted to just throw it all in a pile, but she could hear her mother preaching in her ear about how everything needed to stay tidy. So she hung her shirts, slid her folded pants, pajamas, and otherwise into drawers; though she did just toss her shoes into the closet. Felt good to get a little messy.

Roamana opened the second suitcase, and couldn't help but smile a bit. All her favorite belongings had been gingerly packed inside - her sports trophies, movies posters, photos of her family. She put them all up, slowly starting to feel a little more at home. At the bottom was possibly her two most treasured possessions: an old, quilted blanket that had obviously been repaired multiple times, and a worn blue stuffed cat. Those had been hers since she was a baby.

Softly, she set the quilt folded at the foot of her bed, and tucked the cat away under her pillow, the same place it stayed at home. She always slept holding him, the worn fuzz and familiar old smell bringing her comfort - it would certainly help her through the adjustment coming.

Idie wanted to think she was the sort of person who handled change well. Maybe she had been, once, before change always meant something awful was about to happen.

And so when they'd told her she would be getting a roommate, Idie had completely frozen up. Yes, sir. No, ma'am. Whatever she thought they wanted to hear without really listening to the questions. A roommate? Were they insane? Yes, she'd agreed to take one, but only if they found someone she wasn't likely to burn to death. This, combined with weaning her off of the power inhibitor, seemed like way too much. But Idie didn't feel like she could object, so she just outwardly agreed while she inwardly panicked.

Today was the day, though Idie didn't know when. As she walked back to her room from church, wearing her nicest dress with an oversized SHIELD jacket over it, she wondered what her roommate would be like. All she really knew was that she was named Roamana Bishop and she had some sort of water power which was supposed to keep her from getting burned to death in case of accidents. That was a little reassuring, but not enough to feel comfortable with the situation.

Even though it had been on her mind, it was still a shock to open her door and see someone in her room. Someone already settled in and at home far more than she was. Idie glanced at her side of the room, full of her school things and almost nothing else, and compared it to Roamana's. Already there were posters and clothes, pictures and other personal touches. The quilt at the foot of her bed, old and well cared for. This girl had people who loved her. And Idie... didn't.

The jolt of jealousy was replaced with guilt. And whose fault was that, Idie?

Feeling awkward and unwelcome, Idie hovered in the doorway.
