6/13/15 Approx. 10:00am Julian had to admit, the school was very impressive on the drive up to the building. His parent's mansion was much more modern, but not nearly as big or interesting. He was digging the historical look. Unfortunately, it seemed to only go down hill from there. It was cool to see other kids around and know they are mutants too, but some of them seemed so low class. He was all for mutant rights, but does that really mean all mutants are created equal? He knew not all powers were. Julian's orientation packet led him through the school and to the dorms. First step was to drop off his stuff. Speaking of which, he had a five piece luggage matching set loaded to capacity. How was he supposed to get it all to the back where the boy's dorm was located? It would take multiple trips. It was about now that Julian decided to find out just how open the power use policy was in this place. It was an easy task to levitate the bags. A green aura appeared around them as they lifted from the ground and hung in the air before him. He smiled slightly as he moved them along as if they were feathers in the wind. The spectacle did draw some looks of mild curiosity, but nothing much more. They could at least clap. Julian doubted any of them had much more impressive powers than this. Following the map in his paperwork, he actually had an easy time locating the Dorm. However, it wasn't till he entered the room and saw two full sized beds that he realized he would be sharing a room. This can't be right. He completely abandoned the hold on his luggage, and let the bags crash heavily to the ground around him. He fumbled around in his papers until he got to the room assignment. "Ethan Shepard" he read aloud. He must have skipped over it before. They could have at least listed a roommate. This was unacceptable. Julian was use to having his space. He took a few steps into the room. From the looks of it, the other occupant of the room had already been here, living here. Not surprising since School would have only recently gotten out for summer break. And where was the door to the bathroom? He looked the the map again, and followed the hallways to... "Communal bathrooms?" he nearly shouted in an incredulous tone. "Oh hell no." There had to be a mistake. He was sure he could just explain it to the head master, and this would all just get cleared up. |

Ethan had started to grow accustomed to the loud noises and abnormalities that seemed to come with living at the school. It was as Derek had said, any day without a loud boom or crash of some sort was considered a quiet day. But Ethan still saw it as too close for comfort when one of those noises came from the dorm rooms. He did have to live there after all. True, this noise didn't indicate an explosion of any kind, but the young mutant was still able to hear it while walking back from a late breakfast. True, he didn't have to get up for training on weekends, but he didn't want to miss his chance at getting to eat. After all, the cafeteria wasn't going to cater to his schedule. Hurrying down the hall, he started to scan the rooms just to be safe. The door open was... his. Please don't be burning, please don't be burning... Ethan thought, starting to run down the hall. He had just moved into that room from the other one, and he didn't want it to get wrecked. It had a great window view of the forest and lake right next to the bed he had claimed, and he didn't really want to move again. Running up to the door frame he looked around the room to ensure that nothing was destroyed. Okay... no fire... no smoke... But there was someone inside his room with a ridiculous amount of luggage. Okay... so I guess he's moving in? Ethan thought. After all, the bags were a good indicator. Ethan saw this coming anyway, there was no way that he'd be given a private room that could house up to four. Well if this guy was a new room mate they'd need to have a serious discussion about where he intends to put all that stuff. "Communal bathrooms? The kid complained to no one. "Oh hell no." "I'm afraid so...?" The resident of the room said, making his presence known. "That's pretty standard for schools you know..." He remarked, walking into the room slightly. "Uh but... I'm Ethan. I live here." He remarked, gesturing to the further off bed which was to the right of the window, putting his hands together as he looked at the mountain of luggage. "Are you moving in?" He asked, looking at the new arrival as he outstretched his hand, keeping his manners in mind. |

"That's pretty standard for schools you know..." Was that true? Maybe this was how the other half lived. Now Julian understood why the school children in the movies always seemed so malcontent. It's because they all had to fight for mirror space in the morning. So this was Ethan the roommate? Why did he look as though he were expecting a fire? Julian gave the other boy a quick up and down. He wasn't sure what to think at first. Ethan was tall, lean build, conventionally handsome. Not as handsome as Julian of course, but almost. Some misguided girls might even prefer him. Julian didn't mind a little healthy competition. He took Ethan's outstretched hand, as manners dictated. He even managed a slight smile. Ethan seemed like a good enough guy. "So I am guessing there are no private rooms either than." As he spoke, Julian telekinetically gathered the luggage and stacked it into a neat pile. He looked over at the bed that clearly belonged to Ethan. Right by the window. He looked at the other bed. At least there was some open space in the room, but his bed wasn't nearly as well placed. It was right by the door and in a bland corner. Julian looked back at Ethan with the most charming of smiles he could muster. "So Roomy, what are the chances of you trading me beds?" |

"No, I'm afraid no private rooms either." Ethan responded with a smile, shaking Julian's hand. Julian seemed to be looking around the room at something for a moment before turning back and smiling, shaking Ethan's hand. "So Roomy, what are the chances of you trading me beds?" Well he certainly works fast... Ethan thought. Scratching the back of his head a little bit awkwardly, the rooms current occupant smiled and responded as politely as he could, "Oh, uh... I'm afraid pretty low. As much as window views are nice, the sunlight that comes through is really good for basic practice with my powers..." Ethan smiled apologetically. "But to be honest, I just moved the bed over a bit... in addition to my other reason, I just didn't feel too comfortable with it pinned against the wall. Just felt a bit constricting, you know? I feel like you could move it over just the same if it's an issue, right?" He proposed, not wanting to seem rude to his new room mate. He wasn't lying. Trying to control his powers and avoiding destroying anything were some top priorities of Ethan. The fact that resulted in him getting a better window view was just a plus. And after that little display of his powers, Ethan knew this guy could move the bed very easily. He certainly gave an impressive display of what he could do. Ethan wasn't sure if that was telekinesis or just the ability to make things float, but if he could lift all that luggage he could move a bed. And now speaking of the bags... "But... um..." Ethan sighed, not knowing how to put this. "I can't help but notice your luggage..." That mountain of luggage. "I'm just wondering where you're planning to put half of this in your half of the room... it just seems massive..." Ethan furrowed his brow, looking around the room. "How much of that stuff is clothes and how much is other stuff?" He asked. I might be able to make this work... He thought, trying to allocate space based on what he could only imagine was inside of the bags. |

Julian supposed he could probably take the bed by force, but decided against it. He was actually happy to see that his roommate was not someone that he could steamroll over. This might just work out after all. Ethan seemed pretty mild mannered. Maybe he could help tone Julian down, while Julian helped him let go a little. He only understood a bit of what Ethan was explaining, but gathered that Ethan could use sunlight for something relating to his powers. He could respect that. Julian looked at Mt. Luggage, then around the room. His new roommate did have a point. These bags were almost bigger than than some people's apartments. "Clothes mostly, and my lap top, some sound equipment, a little wall decor. There is also my hair and skin products in the big one. blueray player, and my movie collection. I kind of have a Jennifer Lawrence thing. Can't remember if I brought both the X-Box and the PS4 or not." He stopped. He was sure Ethan got the point by now. "I supppose I could do without the espresso maker. I'll just ship some of it back home, once I get settled. Now tell me Ethan...." Julian threw himself onto the bed that would be his. He bounced a bit. Then he gripped the entire bed with his power. It glowed around them with green energy. The bed raised into the air a few inches, and he moved it a few feet to the side to a more open spot, the whole time with a huge confident grin. He let the bed down slowly. "... what is your power?" |

It was a relief to Ethan that Julian was willing to let the bed thing go. The sheer amount of bags that he had indicated he may be used to a lot of privilege. But then again, that was just presumptuous of him to think. It was still kind of funny for him to try to take the bed in the first place, but Ethan wasn't really keen on moving again, even if it was just across the room. Moving three times in one week was more than enough. As he started to listen to Julian list off everything in his bags, the realization of just how much this guy had packed came. A bunch of clothes, stuff for the walls, and a laptop. These were all things that Ethan could relate to having brought here. But then there was just what could only be considered excess. That massive trunk has all his hair products? He thought in slight disbelief, looking at the massive bag. And then more still. A Blu Ray player and a movie collection, not to mention an Xbox One and a PlayStation 4. Although he had to agree that Jennifer Lawrence was pretty cool. Not his favorite actress ever, but cool. So points to him right there. But he did feel a pressing need to point something out to him. "You do realize that the PlayStation 4 works as a Blu Ray player, right?" He wasn't really sure about the Xbox One, but he felt the need to mention that. But it was good that he acknowledged he'll probably have to ship a decent amount of stuff home. He even had an espresso maker, which actually would be pretty nice. Maybe he'll get him to keep that one. "Now tell me Ethan...." Watching him hop on the bed and hover it across the room, Ethan followed the flight of the grinning boy. His beds final location may not have been the best, but it was certainly nice. Still, Ethan was focusing on the coming question. "... what is your power?" Well that's a bit blunt... No one had really asked him about his powers so soon after meeting him. People often carried that question with a bit of tact at this school. But Ethan couldn't really blame him. He was new, and he also supposed he may have sparked his curiosity with the comment about the window. "Oh... well how do I put this..." Ethan thought. "Well... I don't understand it incredibly well myself yet but to put it simply..." He thought a bit more, then continued. "Well I basically absorb stuff like sunlight, fire, heat, and electricity. Really anything that provides power or energy, based on my experience. I basically absorb that stuff, and I can use what I absorb. But my body also kind of changes what I absorb into a more..." He didn't even know what to call it. "Well... energy. Like, energy energy. Pure, if I understand it correctly, but I'm no scientist. Then I can basically expel and use the energy. I hope that makes sense." He didn't want to add his own speculations to it, but he felt that was an adequate explanation. |

"You do realize that the PlayStation 4 works as a Blu Ray player, right?" "Yeah, I know. It just doesn't seem the same. I need clear lines of separation between game and movie. More of a mental thing. But as there are space constraints, it appears I no longer have the luxury of my little eccentricities." Julian listened to Ethan explain his power. It seemed even Ethan didn't have a full understanding on the scope of his powers, but from what he was able to explain was actually very interesting. Julian sat up in the bed to listen closely. "Wow. your power is actually pretty legit." Julian couldn't wait to see it in action, as well as all the rest of the student body. If all went well, these would be friends and comrades for the rest of his life, at least that was Julian's goal. He loved his family, but he already feels more understanding from this stranger he was thrown together with at school than he ever has from his parents. "Maybe we can practice sometime, or train, or whatever it is we do here." Julian couldn't quite explain it, but he felt an attachment to Ethan, after only the short conversation they have had. "So, what is it the kids like to do for fun around here? There stuff to do on the grounds? Are we allowed into town. Where can a couple of dashing young fellas like ourselves get into some mischief?" He gave Ethan a little wink before opening one of the suit cases. This one was completely filled with very nice shoes. |

"Wow. your power is actually pretty legit." Julian said, giving his thoughts on Ethan's abilities. "Maybe we can practice sometime, or train, or whatever it is we do here." Ethan was actually pretty relieved to hear Julian's thoughts about his powers. Even if it was inconsequential, it was nice that he thought it was cool. Sure, it was really destructive at times too, but it was nice that he was being held to a good standard. But once he started to talk about training together, Ethan decided it was necessary to clear things up on how training sessions went here before he tried to get him into The Danger Room. "Well, I don't think you and I will be training together any time soon." Ethan started to explain. "Basically, around here training sessions are divided based on skill levels. You seem like you have a pretty good handle on your powers, so I can only imagine you'll be in a more advanced class. But me on the other hand..." How do I put this... "Well I'm still learning to now blow stuff up with my powers, to put it simply. So I'm in a lower training level than you. So I'm afraid you and I wont be doing anything like that together until I get a little bit better with what I can do." Ethan smiled in a slightly apologetic fashion. "However, I'm pretty sure you and I would still be able to train or exercise together in anything that did not involve powers. Stuff like basic exercise or combat practices or the obstacle course." Ethan added on afterwards. He really had no idea if they had basic combat training here, but hopefully the proposals were appreciated by Julian. The things they could do together for training probably didn't end there. "And as for activities that students do..." He remarked, looking at the bag full of shoes. Why am I not surprised? "Well there's basic outdoor activities like swimming and sports, and there's also a Rec Room. There's also the Media Centers, which are very nice. We got the work desks here, and the internet connection is good. Really, enjoying the outdoors is a good thing to do here since you expose yourself to the other mutants. You adjust. Well... that last bit is just in my own experience though. And I kind of feel like it's important to tell you that any trips outside the school are regulated by the staff, so no nights on the town. Although some trips are shopping trips, which is good. Still need to get a new phone, but I get off base. Any questions?" Ethan asked, his answer complete. |

Julian felt an immediate sympathy for Ethan as he spoke about the different training levels, and why they would be in different groups. It never even occurred to him that there would be mutants out there that did not have control of their powers. It seemed that Julian had it even more lucky than he thought. He was not prepared to say he was in complete command of his powers, but he did have a substantial amount of control. He couldn't even comprehend what life would be like if he had to be careful not to destroy stuff every time he used his powers. And here he was flaunting them about in front of his roommate. It was rare that Julian felt like he had gone too far over the top. It really made Julian look at Ethan in a different light, but not the way you would think. It would take an incredible amount of courage and commitment to face your limitations, and a lot of discipline to become a better person through it all. Ethan now seemed like an example of a true hero to Julian. How much easier would it be to go down the path of a villain, and just let your powers go wild. How easy it would be just to accept that you are just a weapon of mass destruction and play that part. Of course it was not in his nature to openly compliment someone, so instead he just gave Ethan a supportive smile and a pat on the shoulder. He decided then and there that he always wanted to be there for the other boy. He listened as Ethan described the available activities at the school. A number of them actually sounded fun. Not being allowed of the grounds seemed a bit harsh, and he couldn't help but wonder if the punishment would be worth an illegal trip. He would wait till his has actually been to the town on an approved trip before deciding that. The lake would be a great time. Coincidentally, Julian had just reached his swimsuit as he was unpacking some clothes. They were short shorts style. You're welcome ladies. he thought to himself. "...Still need to get a new phone, but I get off base. Any questions?" "Sure, just one. What happened to your phone?" |

Ethan must have unknowingly described his powers in a way that gathered sympathy, because he did not expect the pat on the shoulder from Julian. He gave a smile that seemed to be somewhat apologetic about Ethan's trouble with his abilities, which was certainly odd. Ethan smiled back and quickly tried to clear up anything that he had said. "Oh, don't really worry." Ethan waved his hands from side to side in a fashion that people could take as "No", "Nevermind", or "Don't worry." "Even if I have the issues with my powers, the school is helping me to handle them. They know what they're doing, so it's getting better as time goes on. So you don't really have to worry unless you see me glowing blue or sparking or something." He paused for a moment. "Be sure to tell me if I'm doing that though." Seeing Julian unpack swim wear as he got to the lake could be seen as either a very comedic coincidence or a stroke of very bad luck. Those poor women... and men. He thought to himself. Does that count as indecent exposure? He added on, knowing that it didn't. "Sure, just one. What happened to your phone?" Out of all the questions he could have asked, Ethan certainly didn't expect him to go with that one. "Oh. Well, when I flew over here from Seattle I set it in my jacket during the flight. I forgot my jacket on the plane when I got off so... yea. It's gone. I need to grab a new one if a shopping trip goes out to North Salem. My family isn't exactly excited I moved all the way across the country and then immediately lost my primary means of talking to them." Ethan responded, laughing slightly as he remembered the conversations that ensued because of that. |

"Oh, that sucks. Well hey man, you can use my phone whenever you want." between folding shirts, Julian took out his iphone, a model that hasn't even hit the market yet, and tossed it onto his bed to be fair game. "I can probably even get you one of those. My Dad has connections." It gave Julian no pleasure to bring up his father. To say their relationship has been strained since he was 13 years old would be an understatement. Julian finished up, and tossed his last shirt onto the pile. The rest of his luggage could wait. It was going to take at least another few hours to finish unpacking anyway, so he was in no hurry. He was not looking forward to resuming the x-box vs. PS4 debate again. Although the right answer now was probably "neither" since he saw the room he would be sharing. He briefly considered burning all the luggage, and just starting over with buying all new stuff. Then something caught his attention a little late. "Wait, did you say Seattle? That is awesome. I've always kind of wanted to go. I hear they have great coffee." Julian was really into coffee and suddenly he had a powerful urge to assemble the espresso machine right now. "So, anything else I should know about the school? There freaks locked up in the basement? Any students I should look out for? Please tell me there is a quidditch team." he joked. "Come on Ethan. Dish. Every school has 'that one girl'. Who is little Miss. Xaviers?" And now Julian was rambling. He realized it a little, but couldn't help himself. |

Ethan wasn't quite sure if he heard or saw correctly. First this guy said that he could use his phone whenever he needed, no, wanted. He could believe that part. Then he tossed the phone on the bed as if it were a house phone. He could believe he saw that part too. But the phone seemed to be a model of iPhone that Ethan didn't recognize. He didn't really keep up with the models of the iPhone, but he was pretty sure that one wasn't in stores. And then he said that he'd get Ethan one because of connections that his dad has. Didn't I just meet this guy? Ethan thought, not sure if he was playing an angle or overly nice, but deciding to think the latter. "Actually..." Ethan started, looking at all of his bags. "What does your dad do for a living, if I may ask...? Sorry, but the luggage and the phone... it kind of just raises the question in my mind, you know?" Then Julian commented on his home town of Seattle and it's coffee. Ethan wasn't going to lie, he really liked coffee. But he didn't drink it every day so his body wouldn't build up a resistance to the caffeine. That way he could get the extra energy when he needed it most. That didn't stop him from enjoying decaf though, even if he preferred to drink it with the actual energy rush. "Oh, it's a great city." Ethan smiled. "Great weather, great places, great vibe. And yes, great coffee. Very great coffee." He added that last bit for emphasis. And then came the rest of the questions. "This isn't Hogwarts you know." Ethan laughed, sitting down on his bed. "But there isn't really anything else off the top of my head. There aren't freaks in the basement. That's has The Danger Room and some other places. Students that you should look out for..." He paused, remembering his first day. "No students really, but plug your ears if the janitor is hitting a training dummy near the lake. Stand back if a metal guy is charging at him. And nope, no quidditch team I'm afraid." Ethan said, creasing his brow in confusion right after. "And... I'm sorry, I'm not really sure what you're trying to say for that last question. Miss Xavier? I don't think there is one, if that's what you mean." |

"What does your dad do for a living, if I may ask...? Sorry, but the luggage and the phone... it kind of just raises the question in my mind, you know?" "Oh, I don't mind at all. He started a company called Investmentpicr.com. It might sound familiar. The Old Man has a keen sense for investing. Well it took off and he sold it, then has been investing money ever since. I don't pretend to know anything about it really. He tries to explain it. Everything always seems to work out for him though. He has his hand in most industries." Julian didn't realize how he came off to others, with all his luggage and attitude. Perhaps he was making a spectacle of himself. ".. We're well off." he finished. Julian listened to Ethan talk about his home town of Seattle for a while. He made it sound so nice, and happy. Julian hadn't had a lot of that in his life. It's been a rough go the last 5 years, ever since his powers surfaced. Sure his family had money, but Ethan's life actually sounded like the more rich one. Man he wanted some coffee. Julian's eyes fell to the ground. "Maybe we can visit someday" he said with a smile. "There aren't freaks in the basement. That's has The Danger Room and some other places." "Danger Room" he repeated with a tone of slight terror. "Sounds like a Chamber of Secrets if I ever heard one." He could only imagine what he would find in a room that professed the title of "danger". He had to admit, the idea was kind of exciting. He pictured himself being pushed into a black room and the door slamming behind him, and having to fight a Rancor or something, while the faculty watched. It would definitely up the school's cool factor. "And... I'm sorry, I'm not really sure what you're trying to say for that last question. Miss Xavier?" Julian debated a bit on if he should try rephrasing the question or not. Ethan seemed like one of those decent guys in the movies. the honestly good guy that should always get the girl because he is such a gentleman, and Julian didn't want to spoil that. He knew he could come off as pretty overbearing sometimes. But the teenage boy in Julian won the internal debate. "You know. There is the girl next door type that ends up being the hottest girl in school that all the boys dream about, and all the other girls hate her for it. I'm sure there has got to be one here at Xaviers... or wait." A disturbing thought suddenly struck his mind. His smile fell. "This isn't an all boys school, is it?!" Julian practically shouted, and began ripping through his papers in a panic. He wouldn't put such a thing past his Dad. This would officially be his nightmare. |

Listening to Julian talk about his father and how well off they were, Ethan figured that he had to be a fairly smart guy. Insightful and knowing when he should take action and when he should do nothing. That or he was a guy with an incredible streak of luck. After all, investing was usually a gamble. But then again, one he had enough money he'd only have to put a fraction of his funds into things that interested him, creating a safeguard in case things went wrong. But not always putting everything on the line was just common sense. "Huh. Sounds like a pretty lucky guy. Or like you said, he just has an eye for those kinds of things." Ethan remarked, smiling as a thought came to him. "If I had to make my fortune, I think I'd go the clean energy route. I can only imagine that the stuff I put out is an amazing source of energy, so why not? I mean I don't know for sure, but I'm just making an educated guess." He paused for a moment, laughing a bit more. I'd have to learn control it first though, not to mention the fact that to do that I'd have to power the entire country. "But I'm getting ahead of myself." The boy laughed, waving it off. "And I'm sure you'd love Seattle. Visiting one day wouldn't be hard at all." He added, nodding. "And no, The Danger Room isn't a dungeon or a Chamber of Secrets or anything like that." Ethan laughed slightly. This guy really loved Harry Potter. "The Danger Room is where any power training occurs. If I had to take a guess, I'd imagine that it's called the Danger Room is because it's dangerous to have a kid tossing fireballs or throwing trees. I know it can be dangerous if I go in there, among other students. So I guess that the name fits." Ethan shrugged. Julian then proceeded to ask about the girls at the school before this misconception happened: "This isn't an all boys school, is it?!" Okay, okay. Ethan didn't want to make the kid panic, but this was a pretty funny sight. He was tempted to say that it was, but he didn't want to give this guy a heart attack, no matter how menial the cause. "Calm yourself, child." Ethan laughed, unable to resist the name. "There are plenty of female students here, you probably passed a few on the way up. And... I dunno." Ethan shrugged. "Sure, there are cute girls here, but that's not really something I've focused on too much, so I can't really tell you if there's a "hottest" girl here." He finished, calming down. |

'..I think I'd go the clean energy route. I can only imagine that the stuff I put out is an amazing source of energy, so why not?" Julian had to chuckle to himself a little because it sounded like his roommate was having aspirations to be a solar battery. He understood there was much more to it then that. Julian actually began to wonder about the energy that Ethan puts out, and the curiosity was begining to drive him. What does the energy look like? Could he absorb my psionic energy? He suddenly wanted to see it. After Ethan's repeated advisement that his powers were dangerous, it would be inappropriate to ask to see it. Julian decided to put a pin in that till later, but the day will come. The description Ethan gave of the Danger Room deflated the romanticized, modern day gladiator arena that Julian had cooked up in his head. He pictured some patriarchal head master sitting like Caesar , giving the thumbs down. Of course in that scenario, Julian kicked all ass! He had to picture himself defeating Ethan in battle, because he didn't know any other students yet, but the victory was sweet. Oh well. "Calm yourself, child. There are plenty of female students here.." Julian breathed an exaggerated sigh of relief, as if he had just put down a heavy weight. He even hunched over like he was trying to regain his strength, all for the benefit of entertaining Ethan. "Whoo. You had me worried there man." He wiped some fake sweat from his brow. "Don't worry about being a late bloomer either. You'll get a sex drive someday, and start noticing girls." he teased. "Or maybe you like boys, in which case lucky you, getting to look at me everyday." he finished that up with a wink. Julian suddenly noticed something. He looked around. "Wait. No TVs in the rooms? What kind of third world country have I come to? Guess that settles the x-box vs. PS4 debate." he said, as he pushed one of the suitcases away from him with his foot. "I'll call my Dad tonight, and have him send you a phone. Or more accurately, my Father's assistant. Gotta make sure that family of yours can get a hold of you." he said with a broad smile. Julian was suddenly very happy to be sharing a room. Ethan was awesome. The tension that had been building since he left home was beginning to lift a little. |
