Julian caught what Ethan was saying about his powers. He could let the boy know if he was glowing all right, but wasn't sure how successful he would be at the calm part. It depends on what a sight it would be to see his roommate glowing. The whole thing had a bit of a time bomb feel to it, like he never knew when or how big his new friend would explode. Julian was starting to gather that his roommate didn't like being the center of attention, or even being complimented. Julian would have to break the other boy of that. In the short time he has known Ethan, he could already tell that he was a well rounded a very caring young man, who had a lot going for him. He was the nice guy yin to Julian's bad boy yang. He was polished in the spots where Julian was rough around the edges, and really admired people like that. He was going to learn a lot from Ethan. Julian texted a quick thanks to Lucinda, and then added for her to order a TV and have it sent to him, at least a 40 inch. This room not quite yet up to Julian standards. He would go online later tonight and order some things as well. Definitely some new drapes. He could use some new bedding anyway. Maybe some floor lamps and a rug. Lucinda replied that she would get the TV ordered. When Julian's brother James went away to college, his parents made a big deal of it, and flew out and had a designer redo his whole dorm building. Julian would have to make this place livable on his own. "So tell me more about your family." Julian tried to make conversation as he resumed his unpacking. "How many sibblings? Any other mutants? Any sisters, close to my age?" Julian added a wiggle of his eyebrows onto this last part. |

Sitting down, Ethan waited for a few moments while Julian continued texting on his phone. Considering what he just got for Ethan, one could only wonder what he was doing. Was he buying more stuff? Asking for more stuff to be sent over? Was he talking to celebrities? Maybe he was dealing in nuclear launch codes and was telling them to let Ethan into the shelter. That would be appreciated. Ethan would have trouble surviving a nuke that was dropped right next to him anyway. Sure, he can absorb radiation and heat and such... but it's a nuke! That's more than likely out of his league. "So tell me more about your family. How many siblings? Any other mutants? Any sisters, close to my age?" "Well, my mom works as a Marine Biologist up in Seattle, and my dad works as a Civil Engineer. My mom is from France, so there's that. No reason to mention it, just felt like mentioning it. And yes, I do have a sister. And yes, she is close to our ages. And no, you do not get to date her." He smiled. "There's really no chance of her being a mutant, so she wont pop up here anyway. That said, I do miss her." He smiled again. "And in case you didn't get it from that statement, no, there aren't any other mutants in the family. Just me." He spread his arms as if he were presenting himself. "And just in case you're going to ask why there's a really low chance of Emily being a mutant, it's because she doesn't share our DNA. Adoptive sister." He shrugged. "Still. No dating." He warned again with a joking smile to lighten the mood again, although it was pretty light already. |

Wow. Ethan really didn't want Julian to date his sister. Julian just took it as Ethan's starting position for negotiation. Personally, Julian would like to hear what the sister would have to say after they met. She might find him charming, and definitely good looking. Of course, he would pursue nothing. He was quite happy with Ethan as a friend. If he had to get stuck with a roommate, he was glad it was him. He wouldn't do anything to alienate the guy, or jeopardize the balance of the current state. Then again, she was only an adopted sister. This bore further thought... later. Well, the time had come. Julian TK pulled over the trunk containing his espresso machine. He named it Bertha. One by one the pieces glowed green as they floated out of the trunk and onto the desk. It became an aerial ballet of gaskets, filters, and insulator tubes. It came together rather quickly, it was easy when he has moved it several times before. Also, it helped that he didn't require a wrench to tighten the bolts, it was all done with the power of his mind. It was a thing of beauty. The last thing out of the trunk was a microfiber cloth, with which Julian polished the Moroccan bronze capsule shaped tank. It was an Astoria Dual Espresso Machine, minus the cheesy Eagle statue on top. It was commercial grade imported straight from Italy: elegant, classic, and robust. He stood back, and just looked at the beautiful thing. "How about an espresso Buddy, is what I would be saying to you right now if I had the premium culinary water and columbian beans ground with a 'burr' and not a 'blade'." He sighed and looked at Ethan. "Father wouldn't let me go out for coffee. I had to learn to be my own barista. Someday Ethan, someday soon I will be serving you a tiny demitasse of double dose." |

Ethan laughed at Julian's reaction to his thoughts on him dating his sister. He didn't seem offended or anything, but he certainly didn't seem deterred either. But Ethan certainly wasn't that big, bad, overprotective brother who would punch anyone who wanted to date his sister in the face. First off, that would make him a lot of enemies. Secondly, a lot of those people could probably punch back. Hard. And third, Emily would get to punching people for being jerks way before Ethan did. She could handle herself, he was sure of that. "But seriously though, she's the sweetest thing. Usually." He smiled. "Just don't make her mad and you're fine, but that's a basic concept for dealing with anyone. She's done more than a few reckless things with me, so she's a bit thickheaded at times." Ethan remarked laughing. "To be honest, I'd show you a picture of my family or Emily but..." He gestured to his empty pockets. "Like I said. My phone is gone. True, I'll have a new one thanks to you, but there still wont be photos." He smiled, shrugging. "But I'm sure you'll see them sooner or later, I have my laptop after all. Just keep me in the fallout shelter, alright?" He remarked with an amused flair, watching Julian assemble his espresso machine. He'd seen Kingsmen. He knew where the elite of the world would be. He would survive... if this were a movie. But as it turns out, it's not. And now that he thought on it, things didn't really workout well for the rich people in Kingsmen. This posed a non-existent problem that Ethan would undoubtedly never address. His mind was wandering way too much as it is. Staring forward as Julian assembled his wondrous machine, Ethan couldn't help but look on in a small sense of wonderment. He knew that he had a good grip on his powers, but the sheer level of precision that he seemed to have at this moment took the young mutant aback. He couldn't keep himself from becoming a glorified night light, much less do casual activities like that on a whim. But Julian - he had it all under control. Doing this was second nature to him. To be able to incorporate your powers into your everyday life so easily like that was unheard of to Ethan. It must be nice, he thought. This kid was a good model of what to strive toward, so it was probably for the best that he was bunking with Ethan. Just being able to relate to another mutant for being a mutant was enough for him. Sure, he didn't have the power issues that he himself had, but mutants! I rest my case. "How about an espresso Buddy," "Ooh, yes please." He smiled with a nod, not waiting for him to finish. Is what I would be saying to you right now," he continued. "Ugh, you suck man. Why do you have to get my hopes up like that?" He remarked, letting out a good natured complaint. "And it's good you're your own barista, but we could really use a Starbucks on campus. I'm from Seattle, we got that stuff on like, every corner. I've become accustomed to it. And I'd certainly hope you're going to serve me sooner or later, because this coffee business is all that's letting you stay here." He remarked, poking fun at his roommate. His showoffy, rich, nice, bomb shelter getting, barista roommate. |

"...I'd certainly hope you're going to serve me sooner or later, because this coffee business is all that's letting you stay here." Huh, espresso. Good to know that if the super hero gig didn't pan out, he still had something to fall back on. He did enjoy his espresso, but that was his zen, his center. This machine gave him a sense of control in his world. That is not something he would do for a job. It is something he would do for friend though. First chance he had, he would make Ethan an espresso. Julian looked at his watch. It was going to be lunchtime soon, and he still had to meet with the Headmaster, according to the schedule in his orientation paperwork. Julian looked through the packet again, just to be sure. There was a lot involved in all this. One page had the fees list. There was the normal fees like registration fee and tuition fee, but then there were also fees for things like "Training Uniform... $200.00". That had better be one hell of a pair of gym shorts. Then there were other concerning pages. Medical release form sounds like it might be pretty standard, but the subsequent "experimental medical release form" not so much. It said it was in case there were situations where non-standard treatments would be required. Julian was sure his father was just fine with that. He probably thought it was for trying out cures for the mutant gene. Julian pulled out his map of the school from the packet. "Well Ethan. It's been good to meet you. First day and all, there are a lot of things I need to still do apparently. I guess I have to go have a preliminary interview with the headmaster and some faculty... see if the sorting hat puts me in Gryffindor I guess." he joked. "Or Slytherin, I mean green does seem to be my color." he flashed some TK from his hand so it would glow green to illustrate his point. "Catch up with you later?" Julian was sure they would be spending a lot of time together anyway. They share a room after all. |

The barista-to-be checked his watch for a moment after Ethan told him the conditions of living in this dorm room, and the young mutant immediately forgot how long he'd been sitting here, holding this newcomer up. He raised his wrist to look at his watch, which wasn't there. He then reached in his pocket to check his phone, which wasn't there. Finally he just grabbed Julian's wrist and checked the time, finding that it was close to lunch. So I've been sitting here for a bit, but not a long time... When he'd run in here like an amateur fireman, Ethan had been coming back from a very late breakfast, so he wasn't really hungry. But if Julian had to get lunch, he might as well show some hospitality and head down to eat with him. "Oh, yea. Lunch is right about now, I can show you where the cafeteria is if you want. It's not too far away, I just came from there before I arrived back here. Oh, and yea... there's a lot of stuff in that packet, it's ridiculous. But all the expenses have to be met I guess," Ethan said with a shrug, continuing his statement as he saw Julian flip through the booklet of everything that he needed to get started at this highly unconventional school. There was a lot in that packet to get orientated, and the fees list was certainly a standout. A lot of the fees didn't make sense when you first saw them. For example: The gym uniform. But once you got a feel for how much advanced tech, among other things, is at this school, it puts every purchase into perspective. After all, not every school could say that they can keep all of these kids under control. "Oh, you haven't met Mr. Summers yet? Yea, you should run off and say hey to him, sorry to have kept you waiting. My bad man. The faculty here is nice. For the most part. Just be careful in your introductions to them man," he warned. "And there isn't a sorting hat at the school buddy. Like I said, this place isn't exactly Hogwarts. It's a totally different game from wizards here," he remarked truthfully, trying to give Julian some experiences to look forward to. Shifting his weight back, Ethan summarized. "But yea, of course I'll see you around. You live here after all. I'll show you around later, but you should go hurry off now. I don't think you should keep anyone waiting," he warned with a smile and and ushered him to the door with a wave. |
