Date: May 7th, 2014 Day: Thursday Location: SHIELD Helicarrier flight bay; Fury's Office It had been a long fight; a hard fight. One he wasn't sure would've been a successful fight if not for Maverick being alongside him. The SHIVA was...well it had been so fucking hard to take down he actually considered a tactical retreat at times. But through all the pain, they'd killed the fucker, and now he had it's head tucked under his arm. The cleanup crew could get the body and take anything else of interest left at the site. But he was fucking done with that place. The Quinjet picked them up, and finally it felt like he could take a breath. When they arrived at HQ, Bishop walked over to Maverick, whipping out a pair of handcuffs. Without Maverick, he might not have made it against the SHIVA. And he knew it was vice versa, but Maverick had helped him. He could at least talk to Fury. However the way he'd left SHIELD before was...less than professional. "Look, you can see the boss. But if you don't put these on he's gonna have people a lot meaner than me put em' on. Maybe after you get a null dart in the neck. Just let me put these on, stay calm, and try to follow my lead, okay?" He snapped the cuffs on, then picked up the head and started down the boarding ramp. "Come on; he's not too far from here." Maverick sat down just moments before Bishop started talking to him. They had just been to war with a SHIVA. The compound had so much damage to it after the fight that the two energy manipulators had barely escaped. It was a good thing that Bishop had been there, and vice-versa. Nord looked up at Bishop as he walked over to him and started talking. He listened. Bishop was right, he knew that. It didn't make it any better that he'd be taken back in handcuffs, but it was something he would have suggested himself. Bishop was smart, he knew what he was doing. Some fine tuning, and he could possibly be the greatest SHIELD agent to ever live. "Yeah, you got it," he said as he held his arms out for him to be cuffed. "You know these won't hold me though if I have to get free, right? You wanna throw a bag over my head too?" He jest. He wanted the other agents to see who was coming in, and he wanted them to believe that he had been captured by Bishop. It was better to give the illusion and build up the man that may become his partner if things went the way he wanted them to go in this situation. Fury was blunt, straight forward, but he also held his secrets, but so did Maverick. "Take my weapons off of me for now, Lucas. Don't need me lookin' like a threat. I need to look beaten comin' through here. Guy like me, they all know how tough it'd be to capture me. They also know what I'd do to anyone that tried. Needs to be believable. Throw 'em in that bag over there and carry it with you." Bishop turned back around and nodded, taking Maverick's weaponry and throwing them in a military duffle bag. "Y'know, he's not goin' to be happy to see me, Lucas. Won't be surprised if he puts a bullet between my eyes upon the sight of me." He walked with Bishop down the boarding ramp and into the flight bay. Any and every agent that was roaming the bay stopped and stared Maverick down as he was being escorted. Nord could only smirk as he walked past them. "Miss me, fellas?" Bishop gave Maverick a shove and simply said "Quiet" as they continued on. "C'mon, Lucas. This is what bein' a SHIELD agent is all about. Bask in your glory. You brought in Maverick! You're a hero to these people. They can't wait to get their hands on me and try to put the hurt on me." Bishop shoved him again. "I said 'quiet'. Keep moving. Fury wants a word before he decides what to do with you". The smirk across Maverick's face never left as they continued onward, making their way through the decks, up a secure elevator, and straight to the door to Fury's office. They were stopped for a moment to check to make sure everything was in order. "Bishop, we waitin' here for Big Boss to buzz us in?" Maverick knew the protocol. Nobody entered Fury's office without Fury wanting them there. A few moments later, and Fury's door opened, and the two entered with the door closing behind them. "Honey, I'm home" could be heard, obviously directed to Fury. Bishop shoved Maverick again as they walked and stood in front of the Director of SHIELD. |

"Agent Bishop," said the one eyed man behind the desk, without looking up from the tablet he was working on, swiping his finger with the disinterested distaste of a man who wondered what the hell was wrong with good old fashion pen and paper but still didn't balk at adapting to the changing times. Nicholas Joseph Fury had lived a long long time and he planned on living a long long time more, and he did not exist by refusing to evolve, forgive the trademarked term, mutantkind. Continuing to slide files and orders and miscellany around the screen, he finished his almost monotone admonishment, "Most people get rid of the trash before coming into my office, and here you are bringing it in and dumping it on my desk like a trophy." He flicked his eye upward to look at Bishop and not bothering to look at Maverick. "Agent Bishop, do you know why I'm here? I'm an old man, well past retirement, despite my dashing good looks. I'm here because someone has to be held accountable, someone needs to make sure that as this world changes that those of us doing the changing don't forget the one's we're supposed to protect." Fury set his tablet aside, and looked now, directly at the two men, "You think that because you've done some good in the world that it owes you something? You think there aren't a hundred like you out there who are your equal? You think there aren't a thousand who are your superior?" Rising, Fury tucked his hands behind his back, and said, "SHIELD was founded on the ideas that those of us who can protect the world have the obligation to do so. That these men and women of power use those abilities to keep safe those who have none. When SHIELD was formed, then we moved to the smaller initiatives like the Avengers, the Defenders... to a degree the Thunderbolts... We used what we learned, what we wanted to teach, to create an accountability for the damage that might be done." "And, damage has been done, Mr. Nord," Fury said calmly, "Damage has been done." |
