Date: 24 June Time: 9.30 am Class schedule, booklist. Clothes, sheets, two stuffed animals, cosmetics, toiletries... Fia stared at her things, then closed her eyes. It was 24 hours since she got off the train, and she had yet to unpack anything. This mess was likely not conducive to her stay here, but she had been living the previous day just absorbing everything around her, she rather thought it was understandable she wasn't as productive as usual. Still, no time like the present to clean up. Thankfully, her aerokinesis came in handy in situations like these. Her travel bag was lifted up to the top shelf of her closet effortlessly, and slightly larger items like books, pillows and duvets were arranged with a little more concetration. She was in the middle of folding up her clothes when a light breeze blew through the open window - Sofia raised her head and looked out. The leaves were rustling, the sun was shining - it looked alot like freedom. Dropping the tee-shirt in her hand, she slipped her feet into sneakers and ran out of the room, pulling her long hair into a ponytail as she went. She grinned at her fellow students as she passed them, but in moments was out the door. Once out on the grounds, she gave in to the push of her powers and ran a few steps before leaping into the air, wind rushing around her as rose upwards. She smiled widely to herself, tumbling and turning in the air, letting the wind currents guide her. If it looked odd to her fellow students, Fia didn't care - too long she had kept this under wraps. |

Julian was out on the grounds. He was still getting used to this place. Xavier's was actually pretty large, considering it used to be someone's home, and not a school. How many homes have their own lake, honestly? It was a beautiful day, and Julian was just finishing up a morning run. He liked to keep in shape. His lungs still burned a bit, and he walked to cool down. A nice morning breeze blowing in from the lake helped. Of course the running was probably pointless once you consider the three bowls of Lucky Charms he was contemplating having for a late breakfast. "They really are magically delicious" he thought to himself. He headed back toward the school to try and catch up with Ethan. That was when he noticed her. She was disarmingly attractive. He didn't know a lot of people yet, so it was not odd that he had never seen her before. She only seemed to half notice anyone else, but was rather enjoying the fresh breeze like some women would enjoy chocolate. Watching the joy on her face in this stole, candid moment made her even that much more beautiful. He watched her from a short distance. The girl broke into a few running steps, and then jumped. Suddenly, the breeze gained momentum into more of a gust. Julian's hair whipped about, and some kicked up leaves blew past him. The wind caressed the girl, by design it would turn out, as she lifted into the air and flew. Julian felt more free just seeing this strange girl take off. Who was she? He wanted to know more, but hesitated. Maybe Ethan knew her. He found himself not wanting to stop watching her, or even move. He could always join her. After all, he could fly too... of sorts. He moved himself with his telekinesis, but would it be sacrilegious to break this quasi-spiritual experience the girl was creating? "Eh, what the hell" he decided, and almost before he knew it, he was glowing with his green aura, and speeding through the air toward his mystery girl, all thought of Lucky Charms, Ethan, or even a shower, abandoned. He found himself having to focus his TK to keep steady. He was having to compensate for the strong winds as he got closer to her. Finially he was near to her. "Great view up here." He smiled. The school and it's ground were not the view he was talking about, but he decided to keep that to himself. "Hi. I'm Julian. Julian Keller." |

Wind Manipulation/Flight
|
Wind rushed in circles around her, colours beyond that small, vague, vortex becoming a green and pale blue blur. Fia laughed as she rose in the air, hovering only for a moment or two, then turning in another direction again. The sun's rays were warm on her skin - she had missed this - it brought her back to a time when the world, her world, was carefree and calm. Her powers cradled her in midair like a cushion, and she breathed in the morning air like an elixir. It didn't take long for the approaching glow to distract her. At first Fia questioned her eyesight, green glows do not just appear in mid-air, but then she figured that she was flying; there had to be stranger things to be discovered at the school. She dropped the windspeed considerably, keeping only enough momentum to keep her airborne. Fia had yet to learn how to hover for very long, and had to shift every few minutes to keep herself afloat. That had never been a problem before - this was the first time she had encountered having a conversation with her feet off the ground. "Sofia, Fia..." she replied with a grin and a wave, the accompanying breeze making the ends of her ponytail lift slightly. "You're never going to win at aerial hide and seek you know," Fia gestured to the green aura surrounding him, laughing. She nodded in agreement to the view, but unlike him, she was referring to the mansion and its grounds. The lawns were beautifully taken care off, and the house itself was larger than anything she had ever seen. Drifting nearer to the mansion, she allowed herself to drink it all in, before turning back to Julian again, now noticing his dark hair and blue eyes, and... his running gear. Looks like she wasn't the only one missing out on breakfast. "I thought boys usually treated food as a first priority," she said, poking a bit of fun at him. "Flying's more important than sustenance?" |

"You're never going to win at aerial hide and seek you know." Julian looked at his hands, both shining with a green glow. The sight of the aura was still amazing to him. The first time his powers manifested and he glowed, he was pretty scared. Now, he kind of liked it. She had a point. It did make it pretty difficult to hide the fact that he is using his powers. "Oh yeah. Can't do a thing about it. But admit it, it's pretty cool." he gave Fia a small wink. Her power was amazing. As far as he could tell, she was controlling the wind. He wondered to what degree. Could she make hurricane force winds? This was definitely a girl he was going to want to get to know better. "I thought boys usually treated food as a first priority.Flying's more important than sustenance?" Julian smiled. Her voice had a kind of silver, musical tone to it that he found endearing - even when she was making a slight jab at him. He laughed along with her. "Only when Flying includes getting to know a pretty girl." he hoped that didn't sound too much like a line. He genuinely meant the part about her being pretty. " Even then, it is a close one." "So you can fly without the light show, but how fast are you?" he said it like he was trying to goad her into a race. That was probably because he was. Anything to keep Fia from losing interest and going away. If it came down to it, he was not above playing the 'smoldering look' card. Hopefully she went for the flying speed race. "What do you say? We could do from the gate to the lake and back again. First one back wins, and the loser owes the winner breakfast." Its true they get food for free here at the school. She hoped she got that it was Julian's way of saying he wanted a reason to spend more time with her. |

He complimented her and unconciously, Fia raised a hand to touch her hair. It wasn't that she hadn't had friends. She did. Making friends came easy to her, but right now, he was the first person who had seen her like this - seen her be different. It felt like he was the first person who truly saw her - it was liberating. Also, the steady hold on his flight impressed her - she didn't think he felt the wind like she did, she would have seen the change in currents if it was him. Fia's strength didn't feel the familiar tug it did when she was levitating something else, so as far as she knew, she wasn't carrying his weight. So you can fly without the light show, but how fast are you Fia's eyes narrowed, then the corners of her mouth turned up in a smirk. How fast was she? She had never found out. She didn't know if she could go fast, but... as cliche as it sounded, as fast as the wind could carry her. A slight push was all she needed to spiral upwards and out, before she spun back to where Julian was hovering. "I've never tried going fast, but today's as good a day as any to find out!" At this point, she was game for anything. Fia never saw herself as competitive, but there was something about Julian that egged her on. Glancing around to the lake, she hedged for a moment - "As long as we don't go off the grounds, I'm game," she said, she felt comfortable enough in her control that she'd be able to enjoy the flight, as long as she wasn't in danger of being seen by people who saw them... Differently. "I hope you're ready to buy me Cocoa Puffs," Fia finished, with a grin. |

"I've never tried going fast, but today's as good a day as any to find out!" Julian noted that Fia touched her hair. Could it be that she was enjoying his little flirtations? He took it as a good sign either way. He also caught her little smirk, and saw a fire spark in her eyes at the prospect of the competition. It was like she was revving her wind engines to go. This was going to be fun. He looked at the distances he had designated. "No, we shouldn't have to leave the grounds. The biggest thing to worry about really is hitting something... or someone" he gave her a mock look of worry, then laughed. He flew over to be beside her. The sun on her skin gave her an almost ethereal glow, and her hair flowing in the wind made for a dramatic effect. She was like an honest, biblical angel. He suddenly felt like a demon next to her. He wouldn't have had a chance against her if this were a beauty contest, but he intended to smoke her in this race. "Cocoa Puffs?" He scoffed and waved the idea off like it were a fly. "Nothing Magically Delicious about those. When I win, we are going after some leprechauns Lucky Charms." He lined up next to her as if there were an invisible, floating starting line. He assumed an aggressive pounce like posture. "You ready?" he asked her. "On the count of three." |

"Leprechaun Lucky Charms?" Evidently, they didn't sound like any sort of cereal to her. Fia knew that she'd have to be a little bit more cautious now. Her control, she was aware, was not absolute, but she knew that she'd have to keep the wind steady under her, and also balance it out outside a small radius. It wouldn't be ideal if she brought about a full force gale on her second day here. Switching to a horizontal jetstream, Fia tested her weight in the air and felt the cushion of her powers guide her. Hitting anything, or anyone, wasn't a concern, she knew that if it came to it, swerving evasively would keep her safe, and if she turned fast enough, another gust of wind would easily catch her if she needed it to. She eyed the trees ahead, and then the lake beyond that - logically, if she flew straight, she would have an unhindered path from here to the lake and back. Sliding a glance over to Julian, she sensed his competitiveness - it seemed he was very familiar with his talents and she rather thought it was unlikely he would make this easy for her. Floating in mid-air next to her, Julian would have felt the windspeed as it gathered beneath them both. The jetstream she controlled made her feel as if she was walking on clouds - except, she wouldn't need to lift a foot, the current would propel her forward, and the kinetic energy from the wind enough to help her gain speed. You ready?" he asked her. "On the count of three." "Ready? Always." She shot a grin at him, and decided against giving herself a headstart. If she wanted to know how fast she could be, she'd need to do this properly - there would be time to skirt around the rules of fair play another day. Somehow, she felt this wouldn't be the last race in her time here. He counted down, and immediately, she pushed off, the winds hurtling her towards the lake. Laughing, she made the jetstream speed up beheath her, her arms naturally reaching ahead of her, as if by movement she would extend further and faster. Reaching the lake, she dived beheath the tree line, and slanted down above the water, reaching one hand to trace the cool, sparkling surface. Only when she turned over the water did she look to see where Julian was. |

"1... 2... 3!" On the three, he shot out at the speed of thought, leaving a faint green glowing trail in the air behind him. Julian had experimented with his TK before, even specifically his ability to fly using the power. He ordered a police radar online and set it up to clock his speed, but he could never get a consistent result. It was almost as if his speed, or maybe power in general, depended on his state of mind which, as with most people, changes from moment to moment. Right now competitiveness was pushing his state of mind to focus on speed. He had to admit, Fia was faster than he originally gave her credit for. He made the mistake of thinking of the wind as a blunt instrument, but she sharpened it to a fine point, which she was currently showing off by having a slight lead. He looked above to see her propelled trough the sky like a bullet. He was going to have to up his game. It was a little frustrating when his speed couldn't keep up with how fast he felt he should be able to go. It was like there was something holding him back from what felt like should be his natural ability. The mind is willing but physics will not be denied. If he wanted to beat Fia, he was going to have to get risky. She was going above the trees at first. It was a solid move, but that meant she would have to arch over them. If he could make a straight line through the wooded area, he would have a slightly shorter distance. He dropped and did a barrel roll as he shot through, weaving effortlessly through the trees. It was like a green pin ball drawing a line around the bumpers. It was thrilling honestly, the excitement of narrowly avoiding trees. He had never tested the agility and maneuverability of his flight before. He broke through the forest's edge just in time to see Fia dive down blow the tree line. They reached the water at about the same time, and she looked up and made eye contact. It was as if time slowed to a third of it's normal march. Her eyes had a look that stabbed right into the heart of the young man. Deep eyes that showed such joy and yet mystery, a warm innocence with a promise of wonderful mischief. It drained his will, and thoughts of the current race faded a little. It wasn't important anymore, as long as he got to keep looking into those eyes. Then reality snapped back, and time resumed it's normal pace. What was that? How could he distract himself like that? He had a race to win. Girls! Julian rolled his eyes, then he realized too late that he hadn't actually turned yet, and he looked away from her just in time to see the trunk of a tree just inches before him. "Ah crap!" he managed to say as he threw up a TK shield, which bashed against the tree. The tree took the brunt of the hit, but the impact did jar him a little, to the point where he had to take a second to reorient himself, and looked to see where Fia was. The green aura immediately sprung around him again, and he kicked off from the splintered trunk. |

"Julian!" she exclaimed, watching him as he sped towards the trunk. Briefly she contemplated pushing him out of harm's way, but in the moment, he threw up a kind of forcefield, and rebounded against the trunk with a resounding thwack. Ascertaining that neither him, nor the tree was irreparably hurt, Fia's worry turned to glee, and she resumed flight with only a slight loss of momentum. There was a moment though, a moment when her eyes caught his, and a little bit of her heart fluttered like it had wings. Perhaps it was adrenaline, perhaps it was nothing- Fia laughed it off as she splashed a little lake water with her hand, and took off across the shore. They had arrived at the lake together, and she had seen Julian as he broke out of the trees at full speed. The trail of luminescent green was unmistakable, tracing where he had been just seconds before. Cast against the greenery of the forested area, his green glow held a sense of strength and skill. She was impressed, to say the least - dodging through the trees with such accuracy could not have been easy - exactly why she chose the easier route. In terms of using her powers, she may not have had much practical field training, but she had used them enough to be comfortable in knowing her own limits. Air was a very simple creature. Because it was all around her, its capabilities were as vast as they were varied. Perhaps one day she would be able to bring about a vortex so large, she could demolish a building. Speculatively, she wondered if it could even be done, but she knew, right now, a feat like that would be nigh impossible. She had seen destruction that Mother Nature could bring about. Hurricanes, tornadoes, sandstorms that blinded people. Fia wanted to be able to streamline her control so that she could fulfil her intentions, without her powers hurting anyone else. She had stayed below the tree line on the flight back, but remained two feet above the grass. Flipping so the wind carried her momentarily on her back, Fia laughed as Julian sped towards her, catching up after his little collision with the tree. "Come on then!" she called out to him, egging him on. Call it an error of complacency, but Fia was too busy enjoying the flight to see that Julian's momentum would throw him ahead of her in seconds. By the time she realised that, it was her who had to play catch-up. Immediately annoyed with herself, she called the wind to spiral around her in a tight radius, the circular motion like a booster, shooting her up sightly to keep off the grass (she didn't want to pick up soil), before she rushed to catch up with Julian at his game. |

Fia sure was tough, and fast too. Julian never imagined it would be this close. He zipped back through the trees as fast a he could. He thought he had lost it with that little crash back there, but he pushed himself anyway, and wasn't sure how but he was catching up now, and maybe even pulling ahead. He had a disturbing thought, what if she was letting him win? He couldn't feel right about winning that way. She did seem a little worried when he first crashed, maybe she was feeling sorry for him now. That would be upsetting. Either subconsciously, or because of the shift in his mental state, Julian was finding it difficult to maintain his speed. What little lead he had was being eaten up. Fia seemed to shift her wind tactics, and it was working. Spiraling winds burrowed her way through the air. As the sight of the school was once again rapidly nearing, he knew their little race was coming to an end soon, and they were almost too close in the race to call. They should have had a definite line, or a judge watching or something. Fia was beginning to look like she would pull ahead, but Julian was not going to back down now. He had to do something. He changed his trajectory to something that would take him next to Fia, close enough that she would have to look at him. They were entering the grounds now. He waited till she was looking at him, and then he flashed her a charming smile, and a wink. Even if this didn't distract her, he could pass it off as innocent. After all, the whole reason he suggested the race is so he would be able to spend time with the new girl, and maybe flirt with her, so mission accomplished. Even if he lost the race, he already won the war. There was the gate that marked the finish line, and it was still anybody's race. Julian only half noticed that the other students that were out on the grounds this morning were watching. Some of them were even panicking a little. Only now did he realize that the sight of him and Fia shooting out of the forest at tops speed could look like they were actually running away from something. Oh well, hopefully nobody is too traumatized, and they could explain later. |

Keeping her powers steady, Fia gritted her teeth and shot towards the gates. Students milling about had turned to look, and by immense luck, no one had called the staff out yet. When impulsively agreeing to race Julian through the forest and to the lake and back, she hadn't actually considered that she might get into trouble. There hadn't been any discussion on whether or not they'd be allowed such display on school grounds. Still, she figured now that no one was hurt, and so technically, it wasn't so bad. Fia felt the push of Julian's change in position, as he pulled in next to her. Distracted, she turned to face him, his smile - charming, yes - and wink inciting a smile in return from her. But the thing with cute boys smiling at you, was that if you found them cute, you'd want them to smile at you more. Fia of course, was flattered. And in the moment it took for her mind registered how pleased she was, her focus took a dive. Fia didn't notice that her flight path was dipping too low to the grass. By the time she did, it was too late- she was going to fast. The momentum and energy the wind was producing would not be stopped. To keep going straight would mean to get grounded, and really, she'd rather not embarrass herself with scraped shins like a five year old. Throwing her hands in front of her, she threw up a vertical vortex, and stepped on it so it propelled her upwards, changing her direction sharply. Her swerving away from the ground tossed her up into the air, where another jet stream caught her. Hovering she watched as Julian crossed their finished line easily. Then it clicked. "Oh, that little..." she muttered to herself, shaking her head. She should have just taken the headstart when she had the chance. |

Julian was having fun, and he was pretty sure Fia was too. He was focusing on passing that gate. Maybe after the race, he and Fia could enjoy a more casual flight. Of course he still needed that shower after his run, definitely some more appropriate clothing, his tank top and Xavier's Institute issued gym shorts. Julian's wink prompted an easy smile from Fia, but he hadn't counted on how her smile would effect him. It was like a bright light into his heart, and it was a warm feeling. His life endevor from that moment would be to do whatever it take to always make her smile. Suddenly he could see her wavering too closely to the ground, and his breath caught in his throat. Oh no. That was not want he wanted at all. He could see the panic and then she suddenly shot straight up into the air in what was clearly an evasive maneuver to avoid injury. Julian hadn't even noticed that he sailed right past the gate, winning the race. He didn't care either. He was too worried. Fia seemed okay, but he had to make sure. He had to apologize and let her know that he never meant to hurt her. Julian almost broke down to think of what she would think of him now. How could she like someone who almost got her hurt. He felt ashamed for what he did. Some of the other students began to gather. Some had determined what was actually going on was a race, and began cheering for Julian, which only made the young man feel worse. Some of the students were giving worried looks to Fia, up on the air. Julian almost didn't see anyone else. He looked only up to Fia, and the warm feeling from her smile was long gone. Now he just wanted to crawl under a rock. Instead, he flew straight to her as fast as he could. "Fia, are you alright?" he called. She didn't seem too happy. "I am so sorry. Honestly, I didn't mean...." he really didn't know what to say. He was desperate to find some words that would make it all right, but didn't know what that would be. There was no excuse. "I really am sorry." That was apparently the best he could do. |

Fia's eyes narrowed as Julian turned away from the cheers of the watching students. He flew back towards her, and immediately apologies tumbled out from his lips. Still hovering in mid- air, the annoyance she felt with him disspasitated quickly. It was all fun and games, and she hoped that he didn't see her as such a frail little damsel. She might have lost this race, but be clear, it was unlikely to be her last one against Julian. And mark her words, it would be the only time she accepted a loss. Still, the twerp tricked her. She wasn't going to let him off this easily! "How could you? I thought you would play fair!" She cried out, dramatically raising her palms to her hair, and pulling it out it's pony tail. Her dark locks, unfurled out in the wind, framing her doe eyes (with an added glisten of tears for dramatic effect). She pouted, and shook her head in mock disappointment. "I... Trusted you..." She waved a hand and let a gentle breeze caress Julian's hair and jaw. "I thought..." She turned away from him, flying a little away, her hair fanning out. As she turned away, she bit down on her lip to keep from laughing out loud. Two could play it in a game of charm. Right now, though she didn't trust Julian any more than she could throw him, she knew he was a good guy. Her theatrics was all for fun. Turning back to him, she flew as close to him as she could, then whispered, her voice carried by the wind, to him, "I guess breakfast is on me today, but next time... Next time I won't fall for that smile of yours." She grinned to make sure he knew she wasn't really angry- just competitive. |

"I... Trusted you..." She might as well have stuck a pin in the heart of a Julian shaped voodoo doll. Julian hung his head in shame, and he felt the wind on his cheek. His hair whipped around a bit. This was it. He lost her before he even had her. She moved right up to him, and he half expected her to slap him across the face. Wait till Ethan hears about how Julian embarrassed a girl and then she slapped him right in front of other students. "I guess breakfast is on me today, but next time... Next time I won't fall for that smile of yours." What? Julian looked up to see Fia's playful smile. Oh, what a woman. Clearly the race was not the only game the two were playing, and she just beat him at it. All he could do was laugh. She still wanted to have breakfast with him. The rush of relief took him over, and before he could stop himself, he moved in to hug the girl. He gave her a brief embrace and then realized that he was coming on too strong. He moved away quickly, and a bit awkwardly. "Uh.... good race." he said, to try and cover up the hug as some kind of gesture of sportsmanship. Some of the students below were starting to whisper. Julian didn't really care much if they whispered, as long as Fia was comfortable with it. " Come on, I'll introduce you to a bowl of magical deliciousness." he said as he began lowering himself down. They would have to hurry. The cafeteria stopped serving breakfast soon. He decided the shower was going to have to wait. "And I am up for a rematch whenever you feel like losing again.... fairly this time." he flashed a smirk. He couldn't wait to sit down with her, and find out more about this girl. |

Fia froze. She had not felt affection in a long time- not casually, not since her mother had passed away. She blinked twice as he wrapped his arms around her, the whispers from the ground carrying to her ears easily. The winds died around then, and in that split second, if he hadn't held her, she would have fallen from the hover. Reacting fast, she summoned another burst of wind to hold her. Julian was saying something, but if she was completely honest, she all she saw was his lips moving. It was as if the wind howled in her ears. Still stunned, she didn't hear anything he said, but nonetheless followed him as his feet touched the ground. Her uncle had sent her away almost immediately after they had lost Miranda. Without her mother, her uncle had no reason to care for her, and frankly, he did not have the resources to raise another teenage girl. Any support a child expected from her family was ripped away when Fia was sent yo New York, and into the arms of a man who loathed the essence of her being. In New York, while she attended school, she had friends and companions, but to all of them, she had to hide her mutation, the result was her turning into a somewhat one dimensional character. She was fun, pretty, outgoing and optimistic, all those qualities serving as a fortress for her battles with insecurity, inadequacy and fear. There was no choice, she had to hide. As she fluttered to a standstill on the grass, the soft impact on her feet jolted her out of her own thoughts - she didn't want to be thinking about her mother now, or her family in Caracas. It was her second day of her new life, and she had made a new friend. Things were going well. They had to go well. "Don't worry, I'll be sure to call you when I need a free breakfast," she said, covering up her contemplative silence with a laugh and a smile. Figuring that he was unlikely telepathic, Fia buried the nostalgia she had for home, and instead changed the topic as they strolled towards breakfast. "Do you like it here so far? Are people nice?" |
