Interrogation/Improvised Visiting Room
_________________________________

It was just after lock down in the SHIELD holding cell block that Thebe was currently being held in as he awaited trial on criminal conspiracy charges. Despite that, the place was still as noisy as it ever was. Mostly because Thebe had everybody riled up, as he had started an argument with the Block, a big mutant with super strength, and extra stupid stupidity.

It had all started at dinner when Thebe had refused to give the guy his pudding cup. That refusal, turned into an argument which then escalated ultimately ending in Thebe throwing away the pudding cup out of spite rather than hand it over to Block, which of course angered the behemoth and got him riled up and yelling.

Which resulted in Thebe commenting that his breath smelled like a day old skunk fart, and that his old lady of which he had pictures of all over his wall was probably having carnal relations with everyone who wasn't him. Block had had enough, and was just about to beat Thebe's head in when a SHIELD corrections officer entered the block.

"Okonma!" The officer barked looking down at his clipboard.

"What?!" Thebe responded not taking his eyes off Block just in case the presence of the security officer wasn't enough to deter him from trying to beat him to death.

"You have a visitor. Come with me." The officer responded ad matter of factly.

That caught Thebe off guard SHIELD holding wasn't exactly the kind of place that allowed visitors. And even if they did, and he was about ninety percent sure they didn't. He was on a floating military base, no one he knew who would be willing visit him in jail was going to rent a helicopter of whatever the hell it was a person had to do to get upon the SHIELD hellicarrier.

"Who the hell is visiting him!" Block barked surprised, "Any why does he get a visitor!" He protested.

"That's none of your business Bernard, now sit down before I take your phone time away for a week." The guard replied sounding almost bored.

"Yeah, BER-NARRRRD! Mind your business...damn! Nosy ass." Thebe added mockingly he hadn't known that Block's real name was Bernard, and needless to say he was going to mock him for it relentlessly from there on out. Block looked as if he wanted to tear Thebe's heart out and eat it, but he couldn't not with the corrections officer there anyway.

Thebe let the guard cuff him, and right as he was about to leave he turned back, "I bet you my visitor...is BERNARD'S OLD LADY!" Thebe barely had time to hear Block roar in fury, and other inmates break out in laughter before the door was closed behind him, and he was led to a room which was not unlike the interrogation room he had spoken to Orchard in a few weeks back. When Thebe finally saw who it was who had came to visit him...he frowned.

"Should've fucking known..." Thebe said shaking his head. Thebe turned back, ready to tell the officer that the 'visit' was unneccesary and to go ahead, and take him back to lockdown, but before he could the guy had closed the door, and was gone. "Damn, dude walks fast as hell." Thebe comment aloud to himself, before turning back to Alex. "What do you want?" He asked brisky, not even bothering to sit down.

I bet you my visitor...is BERNARD'S OLD LADY!" came the echo of Thebe's taunt but the prisoner's mischievous humor faded quickly as he saw who was sitting there, "Should've fucking known..."

"And tell me why I should allow this, Summers?" Fury glared at the middle of the three Summers boys and wondered what the hell sort of family could produce such a trio. The oldest was a self righteous, strictly regimented man whose tactical and leadership brilliance had proven to make him a valued ally and a fearsome foe depending on whose mental fingers were in his head. The youngest was a brat prince with an elemental power strong enough to destroy or save the planet who instead tantrumed like a three year old denied candy.

And the middle boy, a volatile hothead with a genuine belief that the world could be better whose fragile control and sense of identity ofttimes was manipulated with deadly consequences. Alex Summers, dressed as always in his black containment suit, an oddly uniform-esque appearance to the over layer of 'civvies,' folded his arms across his chest and said, "Because you know I'm right. Thebe's not the kind of guy you should be interested in. He's not a supervillain."

"Do you know what we've charged him with?" Fury asked, coldly, looking down at the tablet he held, Thebe Okonma's arrest report.

"I do," Alex said.

Fury leaned over the desk and said, "And, how do you, Summers? That information is confidential."

Alex smiled, brightly, infuriatingly, and he said, "Director, that's not really the purpose of this meeting, is it?"

Leaning over to the intercom on his desk, Fury pressed a button and said, "Coulson. Take a team and sweep the Red Hook area for illegal signal taps."

"On my way," the agent replied.

Fury shook his head, "That's the problem with you Summers boys," he muttered, "You all think your word is the last word. Your brother is choosing to keep Magneto's location to himself, you freed Doom from that other dimension. You are both so damn determined to save the world with or without the confines of the law."

"Is that a bad thing, Director?" Alex asked, "Really? Scott and I do what we know to be right, when we're in our right minds, and when we're not..."

"Is that part I'm worried about," Fury interrupted, "I'm more than a mite concerned that you're so desperate for some sort of redemption that you're going to try to help every hopeless case that comes across your radar, and one of those days it's going to come and bite you on your ass."

With a nod, Alex said, "Maybe, sir, but don't forget, I've helped save the world more than I've helped destroy it. So... am I going to be allowed a visit?"

Fury sighed a sigh of resignation and he said, "I'll get you a visitor's pass. I'll have Agent Johnson escort you to the prison level."

Alex smiled, not gloating but certainly pleased with himself and he rose from his seat, "Thank you, sir." He made it all the way to the door and then he turned and said, "Becises, Nick, I don't believe anyone is hopeless.""

*****

"Awww, come on, Thebe," Alex smiled, brightly, "It could be worse. It could be Scott who came a-calling."

"Yeah, like his ass would show up." Thebe replied sarcastically, not thinking that Alex's brother would feel it was worth the time to come see him. Thebe then scooted up in his seat, in an attempt to make himself more comfortable, or at least as comfortable as a handcuffed guy could be. "I can hear him already." Thebe made his face into a stern one, had his powers not been block he might have even used his shape shifting abilities to make himself look more like Alex's older brother.

Thebe raised his shackled arms and gave his nose a scratch. "So, what do you want...no, how do you even know I'm here?" Thebe asked...before shaking his head. "Don't matter, here you are." He said before Alex could bother explaining.

"It better be important...Days of Our Lives comes on today...and I want to know is Christian gets over his brain cancer." Thebe said leaning back. He didn't know what Alex wanted or why he was there, but he had a feeling he was about to find out. Thebe studied Alex, looking at his face closely, before glancing around the room. It was something he did often when he was unsure of what was going on.

"What did you do?" He asked suspiciously, not knowing what to expect. "Whatever it is...I don't want it. No favors, no deals. I'm guilty. I did it!" Thebe stated sarcastically with a fake smile, whilst waving his shackled hands in mock celebration before returning back to a stern expression.

"Whatever it is you're up to...just leave me alone alright...I don't want your help." Thebe knew Alex well enough to know that he had done something, exactly what he was unsure of...but he knew that the guy wouldn't bother to make the trip up there if he hadn't DONE something. Thebe eyed Alex, suspiciously, but eased up all things considered it was nice to be out of the cell block.

"How's your son? And Laura? She still super pretty? I'm telling you man...you better treat her good. Because I think I'll get outta here in the next 12 years, or so...and I'll be in shape and stuff, you know from all the working out and what not. That's what we do in here lift weights." Thebe said showing Alex his muscle, which was just as scrawny as it always was. The movement said more than Thebe did, as the sudden action caused him to wince in pain. The end result of a scrap he had gotten into over the phone a few days before. Resulting in him getting knocked out and kicked in the chest and stomach...a lot. He had gotten one good punch in, but that was it...all of the rest of the blows landed were...on him. Thebe counted himself lucky that he didn't bruise easily.

"After I get out she might not be able to resist my charming magnetic charismatic personality anymore." He added jokingly, Thebe was rambling, something he did often, and was known for. Alex surprisingly was always pretty patient whenever Thebe went off into one of his prolonged dialogues. Thebe would never admit it, but he kind of enjoyed it...being listened to even if he wasn't really saying all that much.

"I can hear him already."

Alex shrugged, "I think you would be surprised, Thebe, how much Scott actually cares about our people and how hard he works to save even those who don't think they're worth saving. But, you're right. You'd get a lecture. I've saved the world a couple times, and I'm still getting lectures, so, take it as a good thing. He wouldn't expect more from you, if he didn't know you were capable of it."

"So, what do you want...no, how do you even know I'm here?" Thebe asked...before shaking his head. "Don't matter, here you are."

"Fury told me," Alex said, ignoring Thebe's attempt to feign disinterest, "He told me because he knows that you're significantly below his pay grade, and keeping you here is going to get you killed by people who really need to be here. I know what you did, and I am pretty sure I can guess why you did it, why you think you did it, anyway. The point is, you are a teeny tiny fish in a great big pond right now, and there's one of two ways this can go. You can let it bounce off you, which given your nature, you'll try, or, the other scenario, which is more likely, it's going to stretch you so thin you snap. I'm not willing to let the latter happen, but I don't think you're capable of the former."

"How's your son? And Laura? She still super pretty? I'm telling you man...you better treat her good. Because I think I'll get outta here in the next 12 years, or so...and I'll be in shape and stuff, you know from all the working out and what not. That's what we do in here lift weights."

Alex smirked at Thebe's change of subject, "First of my wife is Lorna. Laura is the stabby girl, also pretty, but definitely not someone you want to make the moves on unless you like a twelve inch metal claw jabbed into your no-no zone." He nodded, "But they are all fine, and we've moved back into the Brownstone in Mutant Town to keep an eye on it, now that X-FI is gone." He leaned forwards, "Don't think I missed that wince either, my friend. You're already making friends and influencing people and I don't think 'I'm rubber, you're glue' is going to work here."

Leaning back in his chair, Alex said, "You don't want my help, fine. I'm not going force it on you... But I want you to know that you aren't going to make it twelve years unless you let me help you. "

"Fury told you?" Thebe stated surprised, he only knew of the man through word of mouth. But he never in a million years would' have guessed that the man knew his name, much less knew enough to call Alex when SHIELD had arrested him. I mean he had heard the stories, that he was the type of guy that you could never have laid eyes on your entire life, yet when you meet him knows you as well as if he was right there next to you your entire life. Still though, Thebe wasn't anybody important. He figured he'd just be another mutant punk SHIELD collared to Fury. "Fury...told you about me...he said me..by name?" Thebe asked astonished, his mouth literally gaped open for a second, before he got back enough of his wits to pretend to shake it off.

As usual Alex was not at all playing into Thebe's usual banter. He frowned when he discovered that he had gotten Lorna confused with Laura, a deadly mistake. He had only met Laura a few times, but it was more than enough to leave an terrifying impression on the young man. "Yeah, I definitely meant the nice one with green hair. Not the terrifying one that eats souls." Thebe said with a smirk. "Can't imagine me not remembering her name is gonna help my chances though." He added cracking his knuckles something he did often whenever he was on the unfortunate end of null technology. It always made him feel so stiff.

"Brownstone huh? Guess that place is just like a hub for the B List superhero teams eh?" Thebe stated jokingly with a smirk. "Tell you like I told Jamie, aint nobody gonna be able to police mutant town cept mutant town. At least he was smart enough to charge people for the effort." Thebe said per his usual cynical outlook.

"Don't think I missed that wince either, my friend. You're already making friends and influencing people and I don't think 'I'm rubber, you're glue' is going to work here."

"Heh, sixty percent of the time. It works every time." Thebe said with a chuckle. "Kinda faux pas to say, you kind of get used to getting your ass kicked. But..you know, you do kind of get used to it." Thebe said with a shrug. "Plus, I was getting my ass kicked long before I came up in here." Thebe said glancing around as if the giant flying military base that could turn invisible, and held amongst god knows what else a prison powerful enough to hold...even the most powerful of evil mutants/super villains.

"You don't want my help, fine. I'm not going force it on you... But I want you to know that you aren't going to make it twelve years unless you let me help you. "

There it was, if anything was going to activate Thebe's borderline idiotic stubbornness it was that. Thebe's face suddenly became stern as he leaned forward towards the table.

"I don't need your help."Thebe replied. "I like it here." Thebe said in his best 'tough guy voice' "No utility bill...three meals a day. Hell, on Thursdays we get pudding. I've been catching up on my reading." Thebe looked around, and nodded. "Yup, I'm right where I belong." He said with a sense of finality, before turning and looking Alex in the face, he wanted to cry, but he wasn't sure he knew how anymore instead he smirked.

"Come on Alex, we both know this is where I was going to end up here sooner or later."

Not wanting to give Alex anytime to weave together some nice sounding words Thebe decided to take the decision out of his hands. He knew the SHIELD guards couldn't be far...it was protocol, you never knew what was going to happen, and being prepared for anything was like their business model or something. Suddenly Thebe slammed his handcuffed fists on the table creating a loud

*SMACK!*

"GET OUTTA HERE BEFORE I DROP KICK YOU IN THE CHEST!" Thebe said loudly attempting to get the guards attention so that they would apprehend him and roughly put him back cell block before Alex could try to convince him to do whatever it is he had had planned for him to do. Sure enough he heard the doors open, and two SHIELD agents entered ready to protect Alex, and serve Thebe an ass kicking if necessary. Thebe knew that Alex would probably be the only one in the room smart enough to notice that his threat was an empty one. After all, how would one even go about drop kicking someone from a sitting position? And even if he wasn't sitting, Thebe doubted he could drop kick Alex. But then again Alex wasn't the one he was trying to convince.

"Fury...told you about me...he said me..by name?" Thebe asked astonished

"He even knows your middle name," Alex smirked, "I always that Neruda was a girl's name," he teased. "Thebe, you have this idea that because, for the most part, your crimes are petty one, that you're beneath the world's notice. But you're not just a petty thief, and you're not a big scary bad guy. What you are is a mutant and that, to men like Fury, you're either a resource to exploit, or a threat to nullify. He doesn't have a middle ground, because we as a people haven't shown him that we have one. There is not one of us beneath his notice, there's not one of us he doesn't want on the side of what's up and up. The trouble is, between you, me and the probably thousands of cameras watching right now, he doesn't know how to deal with people like us. No one does. There's not a law written to protect us, they don't know how to write them."

Leaning across the table, his hands folded in front of him, Alex said, "I was tried for crimes against humanity, Thebe, crimes I was guilty of under a form of duress that was never admitted as a mitigating circumstance before. Do I deserve to be free? Ask the people affected by what I did as War. Is it a good thing I'm free? Ask the people whose lives I've saved since. The world is changing Thebe, and that means the rules are changing. We have to start changing with it. You can do it with us, or you can end up doing it with Fury. Either way, you've put yourself here. It's too late to back out."

Then, Thebe made his show, and he made himself the lunatic to be dragged out of the room. Alex didn't flinch and didn't react to the yelling and the threats. He waited until the guards were in the room, before he stood up.

"Think about what I'm offering, Thebe," Alex said, "Think about who you want to be. Think about who that little girl you raised wants you to be."

Alex gave his head a little bob and then, he was escorted out.

Thebe hadn't expected a reaction to his threat from Alex. Even if he wasn't nulled Thebe was virtually indestructible...but there were a few things that could put him down, Alex's abilities were one of them. But once again the threat wasn't for the X-Factor leader, it was theatrics for the SHIELD guards. Thebe didn't even bother to look back at the guards, but he could feel their weaponry being aimed at him anyway. Though, by the way he was sitting there on wouldn't even think he even knew they were there.

He listened to Alex talk, but didn't look at him he kept his eyes down almost as if he was trying to look through the very table that was between them.

"It's the name of some poet my mom liked." Thebe said finally after having not said anything for several seconds. It was a reply to Alex's comment about his middle name. "She liked poetry." Thebe said feeling a lump forming in his throat as he began to get choked up over the memory of his mother. Being nulled was an even more disorienting experience for Thebe than it was for most other mutants.

Normally Thebe's body was nothing near a normal functioning person's body, but the longer he was nulled the more human parts came back, namely his internal organs. It made him feel achey, and uncomfortable. But it also made it harder to hide his emotions...controlling your facial expressions was much harder when you couldn't manipulate, and reform your body almost down to the molecular level, also normally his body wasn't capable of crying, but right then Thebe found himself fighting back tears.

"What the fuck you guys waiting on? A presidential pardon or some shit, let's go...I got things to do, and places to be." Thebe said after a quick sniff, meant to suck up the tears which were now forming in his eyes, he wiped them away hopefully before anyone noticed, and let the guards lead him back to the cell block.
