North Salem Shopping Center

Noon, July 9th

Andy felt like she'd been given two hundred dollars- And that's exactly what had happened. With her mom sending the money through the mail, Andy was given her monthly shopping spree, and the young woman couldn't be happier, as the inner shopaholic was finally fed after a month of waiting. Last month's shoes were still great, but she wanted something a little more this go around. Something to wear whilst tanning?
Or maybe something to try to pick up a girl in. Andy mused, raking a hand across her newly shorn temple.

She had a new haircut, a sporty undercut, with aviators protecting emerald eyes from the hot sun. Andy felt cute and confident, pulling the strap up of her loose athletic tank top to her shoulder, her attention caught by her need to preen in her reflection on a shopping center window. She adjusted her sunglasses and adjusted her belt buckle.

After taking a bouncy step through the doors of a clothing shop, she made a beeline to summer wear, which she found the stores selection to be lacking, considering it was a woodland town in the middle of New England, one couldn't hope to find the same selections one would find in the coast of california. With a sigh, the young woman took a bikini from the rack and gave it a once over, holding it in front of herself and inspecting it in the mirror.

After a moment, she put it back, and paced down the aisles, looking for something.

There was an actual arcade at the mall. Arcades weren't really a thing anymore, really, so of course Jammy had to go there when he'd heard another student mention that there was an arcade in the North Salem mall. It didn't disappoint. Besides all the fighter games you expected, there was a big DDR game system and... he'd played until he ran out of quarters. Several people had joined him, played a while, and given up because even if they could out do him once or twice, they couldn't keep up with him game after game after game.

"I guess that's it for me," he said cheerfully. Like, he still had money but he wasn't about to break a twenty to game some more. He'd already played a lot, and they had the console version of the game at the school anyway. A lot more flimsy, and without the metal bars on the back that he could hold onto to do ridiculous moves, but it was still fun.

The rest of the mall seemed that much brighter after leaving the arcade. Not that it had been terribly dark there, but it hadn't been the blinding bright the rest of the mall was. He scrunched his face up a bit before continuing down the hall, glancing into the various shops with interest. His closet was more than stuffed full of clothes and art supplies, but if there was anything really interesting he'd splurge without hesitation.

That really interesting thing happened to be in a shop he'd otherwise been about to pass by. His steps slowed, and he came to a full stop before he back tracked to take a closer look at the racks closest to the window. Unfortunately, on inspection, they didn't have his size.

"Of course they don't have it in my size," he muttered to himself, not really sounding annoyed so much as disappointed. Oh well. It wasn't like he didn't have a ridiculous amount of summer clothes. And he was about to head right back out of the store when he saw a display with bangles. With tiny flowers and leaves and little pine cones and all sorts of things inside of them. He stared for several minutes, gave the prices a cursory glance, and picked up all of them. Every single one. "Yeee."

They weren't all for him. Just. Most of them. They were so damn pretty.

She picked out a bikini. A black one, with a cute, not-too-scandalous bottom. She frankly didn't have the butt for this, but Andy was always one for the "fake it till' you make it" school. She gave it a once over in front of the mirror and grinned, excitement bubbling in her belly. She wanted to try it on, but .. eh, later..

Coming up to the display with bangles, Andy caught a bangles-thief taking the entire display! "Woah, dude, leave some for the rest of us, would you?" She rubbed her forearm, bending an arm under her breasts. She spoke with a 'Come on, man' kind of tone, her brow raised at the guy before her. He had to have been around her age; Maybe he was a mutant, maybe he was just a regular kid. It's hard to tell in North Salem sometimes.

"Got any in your grab that you think could fit me? I mean, my look right now." She adjusted her straps once more, the black fabric of her sports top visible in the holes for her arms, the gray top reading "THING ROCKS" with a cartoonish caricature of Ben Grimm's face. Her hands digging against her hips, she leaned into the counter slightly, lifting her chin as she gazed off at the dude and waited for a response.

Jammy stopped in his tracks, and just looked at her. There was something naggingly familiar about her, but more than that she hadn't shown the slightest interest in the bangles until he'd picked them up. He set down the bangles down with a quiet click as they touched the counter. Maybe she just hadn't noticed them til he found them, whatever. She could have a chance at them.

"If you want some, pick 'em out yourself," he said a little too brightly to the girl beside him. The bangles were pretty neat. He didn't blame her for wanting to check them out. No reason for him to get pissy about it. Or rude. "I don't do fashion advice though, sorry."

The sales person was staring at them with a suspicious frown. No, she was staring at him with a suspicious frown. Oh right. He ignored her as best he could. He was just shopping, he had more than enough money for the bangles. Did she think he'd just walk off with them? From her expression... yeah. She probably did. If anything the sales person's frown became even more severe as he remained at he counter.

Instead of ignoring the woman glaring at him from behind the counter, Jammy turned to face her and smiled brightly. "Are there any more of the bangles or is that all of them?" he asked her acting like he didn't notice the woman's disdain and suspicion.

"I need at least..." he considered all of his friends at the school. "Probably a good dozen, more if you have 'em. Bangles are best when there's a lot of them and the girls are going to love these..." He considered that for a moment, and added, "Some of the guys too if they'd admit it."

He glanced at the girl. She really was familiar. But where from? It had to be either the city or the school, honestly. He really hadn't been anywhere else, since coming to New York from San Diego three years ago. "Do you got a ride back to the school?" he asked quietly, taking a chance while the sales woman was begrudgingly digging out more bangles from some box hopefully out of range of his whisper. "Piotr's picking me up in another half hour..."

She cracked a grin. "I hope the girls like it. I'm peacocking all day every day, man." She took a handful of bangles and stowed them into her pocket as she made her way to the counter, her attention still more or less focused on the bangle-horder. "I feel you, though, man. Having lots of these on your arms with the right top can complete a look and let me tell you, you've got supermodel flair all over you." She waved around his face with a teasing grin and wink.

As he mentioned Colossus, she snapped back to reality and the flirting stopped. She shook her head slightly in shock. "Piotr? As in, Teacher Piotr? O- Oh, of course! Sure, I'll go with you. I didn't peg you for someone that went to the school. I'm Andy, you can call me Andrea if you really want to. I'm uh, I was head of track club last summer and I'm running for swim club's chair this year as well as a seat in the student council."

"Gotta rep my skills out, you know? Anyway, I didn't recognize you from the school, are you new? Have you been broken in yet, have you uh, been given the tour? Do you need a friend?"
The questions were quick after she paid for her things, her attention turned once more to the new boy.

"I hope so too. If not... more for me," he replied with a laugh. Honestly if no one wanted any, he didn't mind having extras. He didn't have anyone to complain about clutter since he didn't have a roommate after all. That would have been a little awkward. He wasn't sure if they just weren't going to give him a roommate or if they just had enough spare space that he was lucky enough not to get stuck with one yet.

"Yeah, he's like... my mentor or whatever," Jammy said, giving her a moment to gather her composure. So she didn't recognize him from around the school, but he hadn't been wrong at least. He could have probably played it off if he'd been wrong... maybe not but he hadn't been wrong.

"I'm Jammy, and uhm, yeah I got shown around a bit. I moved in right before the festival in June. Julian and Fia looked after me," he told her with a grin. He hadn't known any of them except Julian before the festival, but by the end of the day he'd pretty much been absorbed into their little friend group without a hitch.

"And I can always use another friend-" he stopped as the sales woman returned to the counter with a container full of more bangles. Jammy brightened up and sorted through them with interest. "Thankyousomuch for getting them out for us." It was possible that the woman's expression lightened up a little after he'd paid for his gifts and thanked her. Just a little.

"Any idea what to do 'til its time to head back?"

"Well," She offered her purchases to the saleswoman and fished out a credit card, which she then slid over to the saleswoman. She turned to face Jammy, a smile forming on her face. "I know of a few things we can do to pass the time. There's an ice cream parlor just a ways away that puts Cold Stone to shame, if you're interested or if you can handle all that lactose."

She took the bagged items and her receipt, then stepped over to the entrance of the store. "Really, uh. There's a mom and pop game store that has a bitching mini-arcade, and I think.. uh, I'm not sure, what do you like to do? I'm pretty easy to please. Maybe uh, w-" She snaps her fingers. "Oh my god, Steak n' Shake. If you've never been, they've got these thick hamburgers and like, the best fries on the planet, and trust me, I may not look it but I've definitely chowed down on more than a lifetime's worth of hamburgers."

"Come on. There's one in this shopping center in a little hole-in-the-wall style restaurant, it'll be my treat." She took her leave, beckoning for him to follow. She made her way off to the Steak-N-Shake, a good eight minute walk from the small store.

Jammy quickly stowed his purchases in a knapsack over his shoulder, and
followed his new friend out of the store. She'd decided that they absolutely had to have a steak n shake. He had some misgivings, mainly because he hadn't found one good burger place since moving to the east coast, but he wasn't about to complain since she said it was her treat and he was getting hungry. And for all he knew it'd be decent.

"That good, huh? I've been dying for a good burger place... I haven't found a place that comes close to the places I liked back home," he said as they made their way to the place she suggested. "If this place is half as good as In N Out, you're my hero." He thought for a moment and then grinned. He wasn't the only one who'd be happy either. If it turned out to be great he'd be dragging Julian out the next chance he got.

It was a bit of a longer walk than he expected but he kept up without getting out of breath or sweaty or gross despite the heat. He was in pretty good shape, and it had to be really hot out for it to start to bother him. He kept up the chatter most of the way, once he got started. "So, there I was, and I had like... half of my hand in my mouth, right? And guess who walks up? The guy I liked since I was like... fourteen. Thirteen. I don't know. That was weirder than seeing a space ship land on the lawn, honestly..." he trailed off as they reached their destination. "Alriiight. Food time."

"People you like tend to drop in out of the blue. It's weird. My ex met me by headbutting me accidentially, she was running through the hall and WHAM. I guess I have bad luck with getting hurt." She shrugged, wandering into the restaurant. Steaaak. Steakburger, double cheese if you please! She stared up at the counter and locked her fingers together over her stomach, her eyes drifting quickly across the colorful angled old-school fast food joint menu.
Briefly, she licked her lips. The smell of burgers and ice cream filled the air and a young woman approached the counter in a work outfit.

"Welcome to Steak and Shake! How can I help you?"

Andy dug her hands into her pockets. "Um, can I get two steakburgers, with sides and uh, some pop, I guess?" She turned to Jamie and crossed her arms. "The steakburgers are double. They have two patties of meat, it's sort of uh, like, square..? I don't know. They're like big sliders. Veggies on the bottom." The clerk rung up the meal as she spoke.

"Eleven dollars, please." The clerk spoke. Andy fished for her wallet and slipped forward a twenty.

"I .. err, ask -" Andy paused with thought. "How do you like your cheeseburgers?" She asked Jamie, before turning to the clerk. "I'll have mine with everything. Even a little sirarcha if you've got it." She spoke to the girl behind the counter, who gave a nod.
