"In 13 miles, turn left onto Tods Driftway." The electronic voice of the GPS informed him. The little map on it's screen conducting them toward Greenwich Point Park. Julian was allowed to drive the big black Escalade that the school owned for just such outings. Still given his repeated rule infractions at the school, a member of faculty was sent along to chaperon. Ms. Jessica Vale, who sat in the passenger seat. Or perhaps Ms. Vale was sent along because one of the car's other occupants was still a very young age. Ahura.

Julian looked in the rear view mirror at Ahura sitting in the seat behind him. Soon they would be coming into view of the ocean, and he couldn't wait for the boy to see it. Ever since the boy arrived from the moon, Julian had grown an attachment. It was something he could only imagine to be like having a younger brother. He had never had one before. He delighted in introducing the kid to new things, and upon hearing that Ahura had never seen the ocean, at least not from the shore, he immediately planned a trip. Yelp reviews said Greenwich Point Park was the best beach near them.

This morning, Julian himself requisitioned all the beach equipment, umbrella, towels, sunblock, Frisbee, football, volleyball with net. He doubted they would have time to do all of it, but he wanted to have the options. The Cafetorium packed them plenty of bottled water, and sandwich lunches. Julian used his TK to put it all into the back of the SUV, but he would not have the luxury of doing that once they got to the beach, everyone would have to help unload. They had a full carload today. Seems like there were lots of people that wanted to get away from the school grounds, and to a beach.

He wore his board shorts swimsuit and flip flops, with a loose tanktop printed with an ocean scape across the chest. He was ready for some surf and sun.

"I don't know about you east coast people, but west coast would be crawling with surfers right about now. California knows how to do beach life," he smirked. "We should have brought something to feed the seagulls."

Julian hadn't realized how much he missed the ocean. The beach really was the best part of his life at home. His parents owned a private beach that he could spend all day at. It was one of the places outside the house where is parents didn't freak out about him being. He could play with his powers with now worries of disapproving looks or fear of discovery. At times, his older brother James would join him, but that happened less and less as they got older, and Julian's mutation became more of a burden.

Today was going to be just absolutely magnificent. There was no better way that the gap between school semesters known as ‘summer break’ could be ended than by taking a trip to the ocean. Zalek had long been awaiting this opportunity, so when it arose, he instantly grabbed at it. He had been deprived of the essence of his home world for a long period of time now. While he had been given the option by Prince Namor to return to Atlantis, he found that he actually wanted to stay on the surface for now. There was so much he had yet to learn and see. Although, this desire to know more about this way of living did not apprehend his internal desire to return to the ocean.

Undertow sat in the middle row of seats in the Escalade. Given his size, getting in the very back was not physically going to be possible, or not comfortably at least. He remained silent for a lot of the car ride, only throwing in small pieces to conversations on occasion. Even though he had been at the school for a year now, riding in vehicles was something he wasn’t entirely familiar with. In Atlantis, the way of transport was either by marine life or advanced hydroships. The standard SUV was not near as magnificent as either of those and not near as reliable. Mr. Keller behind the wheel of the vehicle did not have to do with his slight easiness; at least not a whole lot.

In the car with him were a few of his many acquired friends, and even a newer individual in whom he had not gotten to know much of. Julian and Miss Vale sat in the front, both in whom he knew to an extent. One of the people in the back was Sofia, the aerokinetic in whom he’d come to know quite well. She was such a fascinating young lady, one he had grown to view as a sister; she reminded him of his sister in one way or another. The individual he did not know well was a young boy named Ahura. According to what he had heard, this young being came from a species of people living on the moon. Given the expansive religious culture Atlanteans held and the effect the moon had on the ocean and this culture, he couldn’t help but be curious. It was by natural instinct that he yearned to know more. Was this how the surface dwellers thought of him when he first arrived?

“I have heard of this surfing you speak of. Perhaps I shall have to attempt it while we are here. I take it you know how to do so, Julian?” His knowledge of the activity was by no means extensive. As far as he knew, it was basically riding a board along a wave. No, he didn’t need a board of any sort to do this, but he still would enjoy trying it.

According to the GPS, they were close to their destination, and Zalek couldn’t help but feel excited. His outward appearance likely didn’t prove that point, but he was. He sat with his water-breathing respirator on, adorned in his usual Atlantean garb. Resting in his lap was a device known as an image inducer. This would give him the appearance of a normal surface dweller with ‘normal’ physical features. It was only on rare occasions that he wore devices of this sort, such as this one. It served as a protection for him, one that he wished he didn’t have to have but understood the importance of. He would not be putting it on until they arrived at the beach, however; they weren’t all that comfortable.

There was so much she loved about this city, the only two things missing were good tacos (seriously, she'd have to get cooking) and the beach. Summers in Venezuela were hot, an the only way of cooling off was to chill in nature's own bath -- the ocean.

Caracas was an hour away from the coast line, which made Fia's uncle's house -- in a poorer, less poplated part of town -- that much closer to the Caribbean sea. So when Julian suggested a trip to the beach with Ahura, Fia agreed and was not the only one to jump at the chance. Zalek, having lived all his life in the ocean, was sure to miss it, and a day trip to the beach was just what he needed.

Since the first time they had met in the library, she had come to both admire and enjoy spending time with the calm, steady, blue-skinned Atlantean. His general pace was an opposite to her own impulsive need for speed, and they balanced each other out nicely. Zalek had taken to checking up on her from time to time, asking about school and training, and making sure she was doing okay, so much so that Fia had already come to see him as a sort of adopted family. Sure, while there were certain things about the surface world Zalek didn't know much about, he listened to her attentively and often gave advice that was both wise and cryptic.

Her smallish frame allowed her to scoot easily into the back row of the Escalade, and she crossed her legs, settling in for settling in for the long drive. Her hearing skills allowed her to take part in the banter that flowed in the car, though for most part, she occupied herself with the latest James Patterson crime thriller novel.

It was only as the care turned down the beach promenade that she stuffed her book back into her oversized beach bag and leant forward to rest her chin on Zalek's shoulder.

"Eeeee! I'm so excited!" she squealed softly, mindful of her tone because she didn't want to aggravate Ahura's hearing.

"Look Ahura! There's the ocean, See how blue it is?" she pointed over his head and reached over the seat to ruffle his hair affectionately.

The car sped along the promenade, as if it was racing the ocean's edge. Fia simply sighed, watching the point where the water met the skies, and watching the sun's rays dance across the surface. She couldn't wait to get into the water -- in fact, she could wait to fly into the water.

Mindful of the lethal effect ocean currents, waves and wind had on flimsy bikinis, Fia had chose instead to wear a one piece baby-blue bathing suit with printed pineapples. The sides of the swimsuit had panels cut out; she was going to go back with some funky tan lines, for sure. She wore a pair of denim cut-offs over this, and packed a cover-up, two large towels, and a change of clothes. Her hair, she left unbound, with sun-glasses perched atop her head.

Julian pulled the car smoothly into a lot, and Fia could barely contain her excitement. "Come on, come on!" she rushed them gleefully before jumping out of the vehicle and running straight for the edge of the parking lot facing the ocean. "Can you smell it? The sea? Ay, extraño la playa en Venezuela!"

The Earth was blue and brown and white from space, and the moon was glowed with silver light. Ahura had seen these things. He had stood with his father while visitors came from other planets, and he had been shown nebulas and star systems that no one else in this car had ever heard of. Once he was even sure he had seen the Surfer himself, the Herald of Galactus, zipping by on his board. He went to his bed and shivered after that, expecting that the World Destroyer would surely come and eat him up, but, Karnak told him it was likely just a comet or some satellite.

But never in his entire life had Ahura seen this thing called an ocean. Never in a way that he understood it was water. From above, an ocean was just a deeper blue than the sky.

There was water in Attilan, but it was not an ocean. It was filtered and produced by machines, it was refiltered and recycled, and not wasted. You would not see a fountain in Attilan that did not have a purpose. Even showers were sonic. The water was how the mists were brought out of the crystals, they were sacred. But, since coming to Earth, Ahura had learned that there was a lot of water here, except in places with strange names like Sahara, and Death Valley, and California. There was even lots of water that was full of salt and fishes, and no one drank it, so what was the point of it?

Didn't matter what the point was, he was going to see it today.

He sat rather uneasily in the middle seat, looking out the window. He wasn't dressed in his normal black and white formal suit of pants, shirt and jacket. They had given him shorts and a t-shirt, and sandals, and he felt... a little like he was wearing his pajamas outside.

One of the people going with them was named Zalek and he was from under the water. He reminded Ahura of Triton, yet another of his father and mother's cousins. He lived in the water after his terrigenesis, and they had had to construct special ways for him to live. Zalek seemed to be able to live outside of the water too, which might be because he was a mutant. Ahura wasn't really sure. He didn't want to ask and be rude.

"Look Ahura! There's the ocean, See how blue it is?" Fia pointed over his head and reached over the seat to ruffle his hair affectionately.

Ahura looked out the window, momentarily forgetting about his rumpled hair and his dark eyes were wide in his head. "It goes to the end of the world..." he whispered. "Where does it end?"

Julian stopped the car and Fia eagerly clambered out, and Ahura followed her, still craning his neck to see if he could find the end of the ocean. Fia asked if he could smell it and then said something he didn't understand. He sniffed the air, and said, "I do smell it... I don't know what that smell is though... I bet Lockjaw would love this place though. I bet he would like the smell of it, and the ocean is big enough for him to get a bath in it!"

Jammy couldn't resist tagging along. Summer really was almost over and this would probably be the last chance to go to the beach. He hadn't bothered packing much, or 'packing'. He didn't do that at the pool, and... honestly as hilarious as a story about losing his junk at sea might be he wasn't going to take that chance. So he stuck to his favorite blue board shorts and a bright orange tank top, nothing more. Both were almost painfully bright.

He brightened up nearly as much when Zalek mentioned surfing. He didn't think that the waves here were really the sort that were good for surfing but since he didn't actually go to the beaches here he didn't really know that. Maybe they'd be lucky.

"I love surfing," he said, just a little wistfully. The last time he'd been to the ocean was three years ago and even if this was the wrong ocean, it was good enough for him today. Of course this was for Ahura and it was definitely about him getting to see the ocean for the first time but that didn't stop Jam from being incredibly enthusiastic about it. He hadn't stopped talking for most of the ride, and didn't mind that Zalek didn't have too much to say himself. He seemed like an introspective kinda guy and he could respect that.

Jammy just really couldn't do anything else to keep occupied during a car trip, because he just... got car sick if he tried to read or play video games or mess around on his phone. And he really wasn't the sort of person who could spend much time doing nothing but sitting for very long without getting out of hand if he didn't have something to occupy himself with.

So far... he'd been good. Just a little more chatty than usual. It wasn't like a cross country road trip or anything like that after all. He shifted in his seat to see the ocean when Fia pointed it out to Ahura. He stopped fidgeting in his seat and just watched the horizon, quiet for the first time during the ride.

Precognition
It was true, being a precog helped.

Seeing the future... it helped. It reassured. It made taking risks seem a great deal less risky. She didn't have any idea how well Julian drove but Jessica didn't have any bad feelings approaching the car either. That little preview helped her conclude that the trip to the beach would be fun and relaxing as it should have been. No, she knew upon leaving there was no reason to worry and, anyway, that was why she was there. Any form of danger would be faced with the burden of trying to be steps ahead of Jessica Vale in order to even potentially harm the students of the institute.

Jess sat in the passenger's seat, with full control of the radio. Her gaze was drifting methodically from the road to the scenery rolling by them. She wasn't looking for anything bad to happen, just appreciating the view, and yet she'd developed such a habit in keeping her eyes peeled for a turn of events that she couldn't help but linger on any little thing that caught her eye. Despite this, she was the typical chatterbox, helping the students pass time by talking about some of her hopes for the beach and telling them fun little stories about what she and Sarah used to do when they were Ahura's age. The more she talked, the more she realized that she was taking a trip down memory lane, fond times that seemed so incredibly distant and forgotten in her adulthood. with each of them so busy, it was a while since she and her sister even hung out together, much less burying each other in sand. As much as she loved the family she found at Xavier's, as much as she loved the New York metro area, Jessica missed her childhood home, her family, friends, and the beaches.

As they grew nearer, the womanly voice of the GPS system announcing their next turn, Jessica began to grow more and more excited. She pulled down her sunglasses that had been resting on her head like a tiara and cast a look back to glance at the others. A car full of teens and Ahura, not the company she'd expected to have for her next trip to the beach, but she wanted to make the most of it. She was sure to wear a one piece, all her other bathing suits seemed less than appropriate for the current company. That modest red onesie she wore nearly made her look every bit of the part as lifeguard if not for the white short shorts she currently wore on top of them.

She knew all of the students to a degree except Ahura. She knew of him. She'd heard some of the interesting things about him: he was from the moon, he had a giant teleporting dog, he told stories of an enchantingly dysfunctional royal family. She wasn't normally one to chaperone but it was a function of her new job, she did want to visit the beach, and she did want to bare witness to the child's first time by the ocean. She was quiet as she observed them all. Julian was fine, eyes on the road. Jammy and Zalek were peacefully riding along, chatting with Sophia who was crammed in the back of the vehicle, and Ahura sat in awe silent as he took in the new sight approaching their vehicle. He surely must have seen the ocean from space, but then, what did the patches of blue over their planet look like to someone who didn't have such bodies of water? And could he swim? Damnit... she had a feeling he couldn't swim.

The moment their vehicle stopped, Ahura followed Fia out of the car and off toward the beach. Jessica made an effort to keep up, slipping out of the vehicle and securing the door behind her. As the students began to trail off in her excitement, Jessica approached the trunk with their beach supplies. She grabbed her beach bag, where she kept her first aid kit, but there was tons more left.

"Yoo, chickadees, I'm not grabbing all these bags by my-" she paused, noting that at least some of the voices seemed distant from her. "Uh. Julian? ... Zalek?"

With a sigh she reached for the cooler with their drinks and snacks. It was the one thing she'd bother getting without help.

I can just hear them now --"How could you let us down?"
But they don't know what I found; or see it from this way around

Fia and Ahura were off toward the water it seemed almost as soon as the car came to a stop. Julian quickly turned off the engine, pulled the keys out of the ignition, undid his seatbelt, and jumped from the car. But this time, the two were quite a ways off. "Wait" he called "I want to see Ahura's reaction." Julian started a run. If he could use his powers, he would fly and catch up to them right away. Still, he was pretty fast on his feet, he ran every other morning.

Julian came to a complete stop however, at the sound of Ms. Vale's voice. He forgot about the stuff in the trunk, and it wasn't fare to make the teacher get all of it herself. Julian was slightly disappointed he wouldn't see Ahura's face, but at least he kept his promise. The kid was going to see the ocean and the waves. Also, getting the stuff would help the boy enjoy his day at the beach. The sun was shining bright and warm, bordering hot. It was going to be a great day.

Julian turned back to the car, and made a light jog back to the tail end of the car. "I got ya Ms. Vale." Julian assured her. He grabbed a gray tote tub full of beach toys and sporting equipment. He stacked the beach umbrellas and the bag of fluffy beach towels on top of it, and lifted it out of the car, a hand on each side. Things were so much heavier when he couldn't use his TK.

"Now the biggest decision of every day at the beach, finding and staking out the best spot on the sand. It would need to be someplace not too close to anyone else, and also with full sun. This would effect the rest of their short time here. Julian turned to Ms. Vale. There was no way he was going to be responsible for a bad spot choice.

"I will follow your lead." he informed her, trying to keep his grip on the tub. He balanced it on his knee as he tried to get a better grop on the little knobby handle on the side of the tote. He looked back out over the field of sand. Fia and Ahura were distant figures now, he hoped the boy had fun, and didn't think the water's edge was anticlimactic.

Andy was one of the many crammed into the back of the Escalade; She had been been squeeze next to one of the doors and was the first one out when the car came to a final stop. Sweet as can be, she took part in conversations but was generally quiet, compared to the other students in the back, for the duration of the trip. To tell the truth, she was ecstatic about the beach, but in many ways, she was homesick; She lived a stone's throw from the beach in her hometown and getting to visit it for the first time in ages just brought back old memories of happier times.

As the scenery shifted and the Escalade was driven to the sandy dunes of the shore, she was the first one out, leaving the door open for Fia and the others; Ahura and her friend were quick to dart off to the shoreline and everyone began to get set up. Yanking her phone out of her small beach bag, she adjusted her beach-ready sunglasses and took a selfie with the ocean in the background, sending it off to her parents after a few moments of fiddling with a dark screen.

As Ms. Vale called out for help with the bags, Andy fumbled and dropped her phone. Taking a moment to kneel down and stow it into her shorts pocket, she marched over, the strong wind of the beach blowing ripples through her shirt. She grabbed a basket full of towels and hoisted it up to about waist level with some difficulty. "Oh man. Th-" She strained, readjusting her grip. "So heavy. So heavyy-" She tightened her neck and flexed- Only to relax and grin. "No, I got it."

When Julian - Responsible Julian - approached and took a basket, she shot him a smile. "I've got your six, goose. Oh man, you are so awesome. I love going to the beach, it's been too long, dude. I can't wait to get my sun-tan on, like, uh, you know how hard it was to find tanning cream in Salem? It's like everyone's sheet white over there." Andy had difficulty putting a lid on it; Her valley girl accent bled through her voice and she seemed to be as happy as a bear in a honey farm.

Fia turned at the sound of Jessica's voice, and her exclaimation came out in an "oh!"

In her excitement to be at the beach, she had convieniently forgotten that they had packed enough to set up camp, and she had to pitch in to help carry the things. Offering a hand to Ahura, she led him back to the car, saying, "So the beach isn't just all sand and sea, there's lots of things to do, and we'll have to go help carry the things that need carrying!"

Stopping Julian, she took the beach towels off him, handed them to Ahura -- it was good to have the kid help out, Moon Prince or no. Then she went back to the car, and grabbed what she could. She took some of the floor mats, and slung the heavy volley ball net over her shoulder, and the ball under one arm. She might be petite, but the girl could carry her weight.

On their left, there was a shack where they could rent surfboards. "Jammy! If you get boards, I'll split it with you!" she said, referring to the rental money. "I want the blue one with the clouds!"

Fia was intent on catching some waves today, regardless of whether or not the currents cooperated. With her particular talents, and Zalek's help, she would surely be able to get her fill. Now, the question was, which way would their current flow in? A good spot on the beach depended on the depth of the sand, the direction of the sun, and the height of the tide. No big deal, Fia thought as she stood next to Julian and Ahura, and closed her eyes.

She breathed in deeply, and the beach breeze rushed around them all. Fia's aerokinesis flared outward, reaching to the oceans a distance away. As she inhaled, the movements of the water right below her drafts pointed the currents to the right, in an arc.

"There!" she exhaled, then pointed to a spot not too far away, where the beach curved into a bay. The water was a luminescent turquoise, but it faded into starkly darker blue about 10 metres into the ocean. From her experience, that meant that the cape that came from the land dipped into a deeper cliff -- just right for a good surf, especially with the waves she wanted to get.

Looking to Jessica, she wordlessly asked if her choices was right -- Jess would be able to confirm it, at any rate, that her suggestion was a good spot. "Look where the sand sits -- the tide wouldn't come that far up, and it's relatively untouched. Everyone else is on the other side of the surf shack... And the coast line curves that way, which means there's likely not many on the other side..."

"What do you think, Ahura? You think you're game enough to try surfing?" she asked the younger boy teasingly as she levitated the volleyball in one hand, making it spin. She glanced over the top of his head at Julian, and beamed at him. Julian had grown up on the coast, like her, and she was confident that between the both of them (and their powers) they'd be able to make sure Ahura was safely returned on a surf board.

"So the beach isn't just all sand and sea, there's lots of things to do, and we'll have to go help carry the things that need carrying!" Fia said, taking his hand and leading him back to the car.

"Carry things?" Ahura frowned, "I don't carry things, I'm a prince. This is why you Earthers should have Alpha Primitives to do these things for you..." His voice cut off as Fia thrust several rolled towels into his arms. His frown darkened but she had already grabbed much heavier things so he signed and resigned himself to doing things the way the Earthers did. It really wasn't their fault that they didn't have Alpha Primitives. Maybe they didn't even know how to breed them. They were backwards in so many ways.

Fia and the others were definitely more familiar with this sort of thing, and they joked around and chose a good spot for them to sit. There weren't many people on the beach but Fia led them off in a different direction anyhow. Ahura, peering over the top of the towels, couldn't keep his eyes off the ocean though. So much water. He wanted to touch it and maybe even taste it even though it sort of smelled like it wouldn't taste good. He was going to tell his mother about this, because she and Father might never have seen any thing like this before.

"What do you think, Ahura? You think you're game enough to try surfing?" Fia asked and Ahura dropped the stack of towels onto the soft sand.

"Surfing?" he gasped, "What, like the Herald? You really.... You shouldn't mock the Silver Surfer. If you do, he might lead Galactus to us and he'll eat the whole planet and we'll die! I saw him, once, I am sure I did. I hid under my bed that night because Galactus never came so Mother told me that the Herald was probably just passing by, which is good for us, but still, you should never ever mock him. He's very scary."

As the ocean came into view, Zalek’s eyes lit up just the slightest bit. It seemed as if he was not the only individual who took on excitement, given the reactions of the others in the car. The ocean was a valuable treasure to most. It was not something everyone got to see or be a part of on a daily basis. It wasn’t until he came to the surface that the sea-dweller understood that excitement that most humans felt. It had been months since he had taken a visit, and one was long overdue.

Once Julian parked the car, it was as if the passengers could not get out quick enough. It was only then that the man put on the image inducer. Once it was on, his entire physical appearance changed. His skin became like that of a land-dweller with moderate sun exposure. Seaweed green hair became a dark blonde. Gills and webbed features became non-existent. Lastly, his Atlantean outfit became concealed by what was known as a tank top and swimsuit. This form, he was not a fan of it by any means. If this is what it took to get to the ocean, however, he would endure it.

Unlike some of the others, Zalek was in control of his excitement, he getting out of the vehicle at the same rate he would any other time. Once out, he let those in the back slide the seat forward and offered each of them a hand as they exited. One by one they filed out of the Escalade. It wasn’t until they were all out that he had realized just how many people were with them and how tightly the other students were packed in back there.

After closing the car door, he strode out towards the back of the car where Miss Vale stood. He had not forgotten the great deal of luggage they had packed. After all, he had assisted in the placement of it in the car. She began to haul the ice chest out of the trunk, it possibly being the heaviest of the items aboard. The Atlantean smirked at the woman, then reaching out to take the chest from her hands. “Allow me.” His words were firm yet gentle, he proceeding to lift the chest with his two hands. Given his natural strength, it could have been done for one. This was just one of the many reasons he hated having to hide in the presence of other humans; he couldn’t be himself.

Sofia sought to find the perfect area for them to set up their base. Zalek strode not far behind she and Ahura, ice chest in hand, scanning over the beach. The girl made it known that she had found an ideal location, then looking to Miss Vale. This was undoubtedly so ensure that she had made the correct choice. Reaching out with his mind, the hydrokinetic felt around the shoreline. She had done surprisingly well at picking a suitable location, he making this known by trudging forward towards the spot.

Placing the ice chest down, he looked out towards the water. The tide had picked up, the waves rolling up onto shore farther than they had before. “I have longed for this very day.” He trudged forward onto the slope leading down to the damp sand, allowing the water to roll up over his feet.

"Longed for this day?" Fia echoed, having followed Zalek to her designated spot, her hearing picking up his words easily. She smiled at the silhouette he cut against the shoreline. The atlantean was as at home in the water as she was in the air; she could only imagine if she was grounded for life -- the loss she would feel.

Mindful of being in public, Fia nonetheless made use of her aerokinetic powers and flicked the mats out over the ground, then dumped her beach tote on the mat and stretched.

Fia had never been one to be uber conscious of her figure, but just as well, her dance training and her own diligence kept her in shape. She was petite, and while her body was toned and slightly muscular, she had curves borne of her South American heritage. Slipping her denim shorts off, she tied her hair up into a long French braid, stuffed her sunglasses into her bag, and grabbed one of the surfboards they rented.

"You know what, I don't know about you guys, but it's time to make friends with this ocean," she shot the rest of them a grin over her shoulder.

"Ahura, it's really fun- just you watch. Once you've seen us on the water, you'll want to try too!"

Fia had no idea how good a surfer the rest of them were -- Zalek and her, they had additional help-- but Julian, Jammy and Andy, they grew up on the west coast, and Jess was pretty much a prodigy at anything that required any sort of coordination. By right they should all be at home by the sea.

Walking to where Zalek stood, she took a deep breath and felt the winds whirl at her mental command. "Come on then," she said quietly to the winds.

With one final backward glance to everyone else, she ran out into the ocean, the blue surfboard tucked under her arm. As she felt her feet leave the sand, she hauled herself up onto the board, lay on her stomach on the board and began to paddle. The wind rushed past her, pushing her further into the ocean.

It was just like back home, she thought, just her powers, the sun, and the sea. Fia had never learnt to surf properly, but her powers gave her a natural advantage.

The wave began to rise beneath her, and she paddled to the peak of the wave, a wide grin on her face. Just as the wave came to a crest, she stooped on the board, then with a shriek, rode the wave down, balancing easily on her feet.

Fia did pick an amazing spot, away from others and a good patch of ocean before them, but he was a little leery of her using her powers in public. She could at least use them discreetly. Julian was not that lucky. Umbrellas were opened, blankets unrolled, and flip flops kicked off. The teen indulged in the feel of warm sand between his toes. It had been so long.

He watched both Zalek and Fia head for the waters. Fia with a board under her arm. Julian took a quick survey of the water. "You east coasters call those waves?" he said. They seemed smallish compared to west coast, but it could be his imagination.

Julian took off his tank top, and tossed it on the blanket. The sun warmed his skin, and the ocean breeze kept it comfortable. It was a beautiful day. He looked at Ahura with a smile. The kid has not been able to stop stealing glances at the waves. "Before we go to the water Buddy, there is one more thing." Julian rummaged through a bag, and pulled out a white bottle. "I don't know if moon kids get sun burns, but with your pale complexion I don't think we should take chances." He handed the bottle to the boy. SPF +50. "Take this to Ms. Vale. She will put some on you. It's sun block. It protects your skin from getting burned and damaged by the sun." The Telekinetic could only imagine what all of this would be like for the first time. He grew up always knowing the ocean, but for Ahura, everything was new and different and perhaps a little wondrous. Suddenly Julian wanted to show him the world, all of it. Perhaps that is how parents feel with their kids. Want them to see and experience everything they had themselves.

Julian looked up just in time to see Fia stand on her board and ride the wave like a pro. Of course she was cheating with her power. Still, Julian was proud of her. Surfer girls are hot. He would yell his congratulations to Fia, but it would only be drowned out by the crash of the waves.

Not to far from their little camp, three seagulls were fighting over a bit of something. They would feed the birds later. Perhaps east coast birds didn't do it, but once you start feeding one, at least 20 more show up out of no where, and you can throw the pieces of bread up and the birds will swoop down and catch them before in mid air. It was kind of fun. Ahura would probably get a kick out of that as well.

"Hey Andy, glad you could make it." he greeted the new kid. He hadn't spoken much to the girl, but Fia had made him promise to be nice. Julian's reputation was not the greatest, and apparently he was going to be Fia's project on how to become a likable person.

Precognition
Despite the initial excitement that seemed to sweep them all away, the students returned to Vale like the receding of the tide at the shoreline. She gave them all a small smile in turn. She understood their excitement. In fact she felt just as eager despite how much she'd reigned her enthusiasm in. At least they didn't carry on too far. She was here to keep an eye on all of them and that'd only work if they maintained a relative proximity to one another.

Andy and Zalek were the first to join her at the rear of their vehicle, having not run off with their peers. Right away they began to grab at things stored within. Zalek was even so helpful as to lift the heavy ice chest from her grip and, with apparent ease start walking off toward the beach. Julian quickly began to help unload the vehicle as well. He'd done most of the packing himself, putting all the little pieces of their excursion together himself. It was nice of him, for sure. More importantly it showed a level of planning, consideration, and responsibility that was consistently overshadowed by the young man's many other antics. He had strong leadership potential and she liked seeing him in such a light.

"Ms. Vale? That again?" Jessica let a moan roll from the back of her throat as she rolled her eyes. There had been times where Jessica had lashed her tongue out at people for calling her miss. She'd spiral into a diatribe about the cultural patriarchy that uses the term miss while only allowing women to earn 80% of what their male counterparts would. She'd argue against the fact that a man could be a mister for his entire life but a women's title was relative to age and marital status and how grossly outdated and even oppressive she found it. She was a hypocrite, of course, she too had called other women Ms and Mrs and Ma'am in an effort to show respect but when directed toward her it just seemed... different. The only people to call her miss were scolding teachers, door-to-door salespeople, and old guys hitting on her at the bar; that wasn't a group of people she wanted to associate Julian with.

She held her tongue in this case. This was supposed to be a relaxing trip for all of them and the last thing she needed was to bully her students with her feminist ideals.

"I mean I get it dude but no need to be so formal. Just call me Jess." She looked as Andy grabbed a basket of items and Julian balanced his load as Sofia appeared to take the towels from him and hand them off to Ahura.

"Lift with your knees guys," she said to the general group. She quirked an eye at Ahura as he expressed his befuddlement but didn't question him. By now the vehicle was nearly emptied. She reached for the last few stray items and carefully pulled the trunk closed. Julian suggested that she choose the spot to set up but Jess scanned the beach in indifference. The girl had an opinion about many things but in this case she had no preferences. Thankfully Sofia seemed to have some form of intuition about this sort of thing, defining an ideal spot that Zalek apparently agreed with. Jess nodded when the girl turned to seek her approval.

"Sounds like a perfect little spot to me." Jess began to walk in that general direction, trailing behind the Atlantean up to the point where he dropped the ice chest before heading into the wet sand.

"What do you think?" She called out. She slipped off her flip-flops and dropped the bucket of toys beside the cooler. She stood watching Zalek as she buried her toes into the sand, appreciating that familiar sting of warmth as it sifted between her toes. "How's the water feel Zalek?"

As she stood there, she felt a breeze sweep through, a perfect breeze, and she knew it was of Sofia's influence. In no time Sofia was with her board and in the ocean and though the waves were small, as Julian described them, they allowed the aerokinetic a nice ride.

Jess then turned to Ahura, reached for one of the towels in the basket he carried and unrolled it out onto the surface. She might have been eager to get out into the water but it was her nature to be prepared before doing anything and that meant setting up their grounds before partaking in any activity.

"Do you swim, Ahura? I mean all of you do know how to swim, right?"

Some of the students were in her PE class so she knew of their swimming ability. Zalek was Atlantean so there was no worry at all there either. It was only the students newer to the school that she worried about: Andy and Ahura. The latter of which had never been introduced to such a large body of water. If not for her mutation manifesting itself, Jess would have spent the summer of her sophomore year in high school. She wasn't worried, knew that she could keep them safe as needed, but these were typically good things to know.

"If not, now's a great time to learn." And it really was. Not only did the group from Xavier's generally have a good sense of looking out for one another, not only were they capable swimmers, but they also had a small collection of super powers that would make it rather hard to successfully drown."

I can just hear them now --"How could you let us down?"
But they don't know what I found; or see it from this way around

It seemed as if both Zalek and Sofia were more than ready to get into the ocean. In the period of time that the man had gotten to know the young aerokinetic, he'd learned that she was from a land close to the ocean. She, too, felt an attachment to it and missed it just as he did. Of course, the bonds they shared with the ocean were on completely different scales, they still had that passion.

The young girl had trudged forth into the water with her surfboard. Zalek reached up towards his gills, which were currently concealed by the holographic image being produced over him, and removed the water-breathing apparatus that he'd become best friends with since his time spent living on the surface. He set it down next to the ice chest before heading back on down towards the large body of water, the wet sand beneath his feet.

He stepped in just enough for everything beneath his ankles to be submerged. He looked around him for the presence of other surface dwellers that were not of his group so as to ensure what he would next do wasn't seen. Reaching out with his mind, water before him began to rise and separate from the larger body. It flattened and spread out so as to form the shape of a surfboard mixed with a paddleboard. Once he was pleased with the shape, the molecules gather closer together so as to form a board made of ice.

With that done, the Atlantean proceeded to move deeper in the water before fully submerging himself. The board of ice on the top of the water was pushed out by small, unnoticeable waves. Zalek allowed the saltwater to rush through his gills and fill his lungs. The sensation was one he so thoroughly enjoyed. Getting something after having a prolonged absence from it always made it better.

He swam out past schools of fish and towards the area Sofia was. He surfaced there, met by his board of ice in which he then climbed up on.

"I do believe that between the two of us, it is likely we can put Julian to shame." he teased. Julian was a good young man, one he'd enjoyed getting to know. However, Zalek had to pick on him every now and then. The telekinetic boasted about the skills he possessed in the art of surfing, so it was hard not to mess with him.

Most surfers had to wait to find the perfect wave. That was not the case for individuals such as Undertow and Wind Dancer, considering they could create waves of their own. Instead of going ahead and surfing, Zalek sat straddled on his board, looking towards the shore. A smile came to his face as he looked over all of his friends, almost family. He'd come so far in a little over a year.
