If Bobbi wasn’t in the field she was one of three places most of the time. Sleeping, training, or buried in the lab. The training room was largely empty, Bobbi was on her down time but she really didn’t understand the meaning of it. She stood in front of the metal dummy, it had two long arms coming out the side and sat on a swivel.

Bobbi picked up her two battle staves and twirled them in her hands as she started to lightly tap the torso area of the dummy working on speed as she went, once she had a good rhythm going she struck one arm sending the dummy spinning the other arm moving quickly towards her back, she quickly threw the staves behind her blocking the blow without looking before spinning and cracking the dummy in the head with one.

She grunts and spins blocking the other arm as it comes in picking up the speed moving in a circle around the dummy keeping a pace and rhythm to her movements like a dance. Each hit of her stave echoing through the room as her and the target dummy dance as fast as the dummy can swivel.

She was in her zone, this was zen to her. Moving, circling, sweeping, blocking, and dancing with the dummy. Her staves were like an extension of her, fighting had become to her that escape some people find in nature, or on the beach. She was at her happiest, able to think the clearest in moments like this. Thankfully though today she didn’t have anything heavy to work through, this was just warm up for her. Getting herself ready to help one of her teammates with some combat training. She spun kicking one arm arm sending the dummy spinning and crashing hard into her staves which she wrapped around it and yanked up as if she was going to break someone's arm to stop the spin. She smirked and slipped her staves back into her bag as she grabbed her water bottle squirting some into her mouth while looking out the window into the clouds as they drifted by.

Growing up her gymnastic coach has a quote she would always say If you want to find the real competition, just look in the mirror. After awhile you'll see your rivals scrambling for second place. It was a line that still this day ran through her head, and being one of the few baseline humans in her new unit, pushed Bobbi to reach deeper and try and up her game even more. She wanted to feel like she belonged, could hold her own, and wasn’t the weakest link in the chain. But now was not the time for her dwell on that, Realm would be there soon, and she was there to help her with her combat training. Teaching was always something Bobbi enjoyed so she was looking forward to seeing what the woman knew and what she could help her learn.

She really didn’t know what she was doing.

Logic told her that this was…wrong, somehow, right? Sure, Realm knew how to take care of herself but she mostly relied on her powers and abilities to get her through whatever sticky situation she happened to be in. Yes, she understood the scenario that somehow, some way some random bad guy would have the ability to take her powers away, to which Realm thought; it hasn’t happened in thirty four years, why would such a possibility be relevant now? Well, because she was with S.H.I.E.L.D now, of course. Duh. She hated answering her own logical questions with her own logical answers that somehow made sense.

Realm had been instructed to wear comfortable clothes that weren’t too baggy, so yoga pants and a tank top it was. She felt oddly exposed but she honestly doubted anyone would pay attention to her, as she felt rather plain next to some of the agents she’d seen and read up on. And oh, the education she’d put herself through in her few short weeks in S.H.I.E.L.D. had been…enlightening. She wasn’t given the whole ‘max level clearance’ thingy or whatever but the doctor had insisted on seeing the medical profiles of the people on her team. After reading about some of them Realm felt…well, oddly small. These people were juggernauts compared to her, but hey! At least she could check people by telling them their cholesterol was too high and to watch the snacks! That was something, right?

…right.

So, mandatory hand-to-hand combat. How hard could it be?

Bruce Lee was one of her favorite actors of all time. Realm really admired his dedication to his craft and his philosophies, having some of her own that she adhered to every day of her life. Being a healer that could cure someone of their cancer was kind of overwhelming at times, especially with just how many people in the world were sick, but she stuck to her morals just as Bruce Lee stuck to his. He was an unrepentant badass and Realm was pulling any and all lessons she’d heard him say, pulling the words she’d read from his books to the forefront of her mind. Luckily, she had an advantage that many didn’t; the ability to keep herself calm was crucial in learning things that would normally make one angry or frustrated, so Realm was certain she would be able to pick up lessons quickly. Or so she hoped, anyways.

Her teacher was an agent named Bobbi, and that was all she was told. Realm spotted her immediately upon entering the training room as the blonde was the only one there. She cut an impressive figure, hard body and already shining with a thing sheen of sweat. Realm swallowed hard and let out a breath she didn’t know she was holding a moment later. Okay, fine. She was gorgeous. Whatever!! The brunette pursed her lips and strode towards the other woman and stopped a short ways away. She didn’t know what to make of the blonde and didn’t know how she should act. Bobbi was, after all, an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and a senior one at that. Well, senior to herself anyways, and if anything Realm knew how to treat the unknowns with respect before she could gauge reactions and attitudes. If it worked with African Warlords, it could work anywhere.

“Hi,” Realm held out a hand to shake Bobbi’s own. “Realm Masters. You’re…teaching me, correct? I’ll throw it out there; I’m a doctor, not a fighter. So…yeah…” A pause. “I kinda have no idea what I’m doing. Everything I know, I know from Bruce Lee movies.”

She gave what she hoped was a winning smile and shrugged helplessly.

Hi,” Realm held out a hand to shake Bobbi’s own. “Realm Masters. You’re…teaching me, correct? I’ll throw it out there; I’m a doctor, not a fighter. So…yeah…” A pause. “I kinda have no idea what I’m doing. Everything I know, I know from Bruce Lee movies.”

Bobbi put her water bottle down and turned smiling at the woman who had just walked in. Her left hand quickly grabbed her towel wiping the sweat off it before shaking the other woman’s hand. “Nice to meet you Realm. I’m Bobbi.” She chuckled at the doctor and not a fighter line. As her eyes sized the woman up, her mind working out how best to train and work with the novice combatant before her. “Well at least your not a lover, than there would be no hope for you becoming a fighter. A doctor I can work with!” She said with a playful grin.

Bobbi turned around her eyes darting around the gym looking for a few things quickly. She walked over to the wall and grabbed a set of MMA gloves off the rack, and two target mitts. “So, I was told your mutant and as such are use to having powers to back you up. It’s your edge, your way to feel safe and get a tactical advantage.” As she walked back over she extended her arm offering the two MMA gloves to Realm.

“But Shield isn’t big on people not being able to handle every situation...real, imagined, or far out. Trust me...things you never thought would happen will happen to you here. In your case I was told you need to learn to defend yourself if you have no powers…” She paused for a moment letting her little speech sink in as she went. “It’s a curveball, but that’s part of the fun.” She smirked playfully as she went over to her bag, she was pretty sure this woman was about to hate her, and Bobbi was thrilled that her powers were all about healing. If the girl could chuck a fireball she was positive there was a good chance was about to be hurled at her head. “Ready for your first curveball?”

She grinned turning and tossing a null cuff to Realm. “Strap that on.” Bobbi felt the best way to prep her to fight with no powers, was for her to understand what it felt like to not have them. If she knew how to fight without them now, in the field if she lost them the shock wouldn’t end up costing the agency another agent, and the woman her life. “Best way to learn how to cope with worst case scenario is train in it. Every mission I go out and never know who is going to fry me, ice me, melt me, or brainwash me...all I’ve ever had is my skills and my head. And I survive, now I’m going to teach you to survive.” She grinned at Realm sliding her hands into the gloves.

Bobbi started to bounce on her feet as she slid the target mitts on, she was in her world she loved to fight, and she loved to help others learn to fight. “We will start out easy, to see where we are starting and work up from there. Let’s start with a simple left, left, right combo” She lifted the target mitts up as she planted herself in front of Realm to give her easy clear shots at them as she adjusted to throwing a punch, feeling recoil, any pains, or backlashes for the first time Bobbi figured in a long time without her powers being there to cushion the blows.

“I…”

Realm held the cuff in her hand like one would hold a small infant child. She knew what the thing did, as Bobbi’s explanation did more than inform her. In fact, Realm was positive that if she hadn’t been using her abilities to keep herself calm at that moment she would be pretty close to shaking in her highly polished, S.H.I.E.L.D. regulated boots. Logically the doctor knew that the scenarios that Bobbi had belted were legitimately terrifying, and that same logic told her that the moment she put that null cuff on every bit of any emotion she was keeping at bay with those powers was going to crash into her like a tsunami and she’d be able to do nothing about it.

There would be a small window where Realm was certain she could keep her emotions in check after the null cuff was on. The downside was that Realm knew just how powerful the wave of held back emotions could be. After her father died her logical mind had concluded that dealing with his death was the healthy thing to do. She didn’t want to, but what the brunette hadn’t counted on was the absolute crushing feeling that everything else brought down upon her. She’d relied on it too much and now Realm was going to have to deal with the consequences. She hadn’t practiced any way to deal with overwhelming emotions beyond her power and now she was regretting not doing this sooner. Sure, she had a short amount of time to seem ‘normal’, but after that…

“This won’t end well…” Realm said under her breath, talking more to herself than anything else. “Guess better here in a controlled environment than anything else…”

Realm slid her hands into the gloves that would protect her fists from being broken masses of flesh during the training. She knew that throwing a punch for an inexperienced fighter was dangerous as there was an actual art to the motion. Recklessly throwing a punch or kick without knowing what you were doing was a rather silly thing and Realm wasn’t going to break her hand in the first five minutes of training. Although, her logical mind argued, it would be an excellent way to get out of the whole null cuff thing. But that would be a cowards way out and Realm refused to do anything of the sort.

“My power is an odd thing,” Realm began, avoiding eye contact with the more physically impressive woman and instead focused on making sure her own gloves were on tight, despite the fact they already were. “I’ve used them for as long as I can remember to keep me calm. I can…extend, I guess you could say, that calming to others. They’ve kept my sharp in the field. Can’t get too emotional, after all, when you’re in a warzone and the bullets are flying or if your triage is suddenly under attack. Guess it kinda got outta hand the more I used it. It’s one aspect of my powers I use the most.” Realm turned mismatched eyes to the blonde and quirked her lips in a seemingly helpless gesture. “To…avoid dealing with my actual problems.” A beat. “So…I apologize in advance. I might not deal well with this.”

Which was an understatement if Realm considered the last time she attempted to ‘deal with her problems’. She was a wreck in what seemed like moments when she’d let her powers drop after her father died and it was only after she managed to regain control of her emotions and body that her calming powers took over again, allowing the doctor to function in a somewhat normal fashion. Sure, the calming effect was soothing and cocooned her but her memory still retained the sheer power of her feelings and Realm wasn’t looking forward to that again. She began to go through some simple stretches, keeping her eyes downcast as she loosely held the null cuff in her fingers.

“Eyes on the prize…” Realm whispered to herself, taking even breaths as she went through the stretches. “Won’t be so bad, yeah? I’ll tell Jac about this later, she’ll cook me up something special. Cuddle with Frodo for a bit…yeah. Won’t be so bad…” The brunette stood up and, with pursed lips and teeth clenched tight, Realm slapped the cuff on and took what she hoped was a competent fighting stance. “Okay Bobsi…teach me the ways.”
