Fortune favoured the bold, or that was a common phrase that humans used to reassure themselves that by taking action their lives could mean more than they actually did. In truth, human lives were of little consequence to the larger game, their time was spent and while they had made impressive leaps and bounds in their time on Earth, that time was now up and it was the age of the mutant now and the world would leap forward even more under mutant rule.

Despite his initial setbacks, the Brotherhood was quickly finding its feet once again. Members new and old were rallying to the cause and Magneto was once again upon his throne, though it was a throne worth very little at this point in time. The Master of Magnetism had his plans, of course, it was a careful juggling act of furthering both his own goals and the goals of his race and at present, he was fortunate that they were both carefully aligned. Right now though, Magneto was not ready to reveal his grand schemes, they would come of course, but he was well versed in knowing when to keep his cards close to his chest and when to play them.

Today was one of those days where he was furthering his own goals, Magneto needed people around him that he could trust, there were few with the intelligence and capability to be able to be truly trusted by Magneto - most of them were considered his opposition; Scott Summers for example - his allegiance to Xavier's dream was too concrete to ever rely on doing anything that would further the mutant cause. He was happy to play lapdog to the likes of Nick Fury and SHIELD instead of being a true force for progress for mutants.

Emma Frost, however, the woman that Magneto had been tracking for some time, waiting for her to be far enough away from her Xavier's peers was far more flexible in her loyalties. To Erik's recollection, Emma had managed to become bed buddies with most of the major players in New York at one stage or another. Emma had even once worked with Erik when Sanctuary had been a beacon for the future for mutants across the globe.

Tracking Emma had not been easy, his helmet kept him hidden from her powers but at the same time risked him being spotted by those who knew the infamy of his helmet. Eventually, she had stopped though at a cafe that was small, expensive and thankfully quiet. A perfect spot for Erik to make his appearance though he would not be able to remain long if he was spotted. While she sat with her back to the door, Erik bent the light waves around him to prevent anyone from spotting him as he crossed the cafe and sat in front of Emma as the light waves returned to normal allowing his physical form to be revealed to her as he sat.

"Miss Frost. It has been some time." Erik spoke with a confidence that the world had come to expect from the so-called mutant royal.

She had heard him, moments before he had entered the cafe. Emma had arched her brow into her coffee, not showing any outward reaction to the patrons around her, even as her telepathic walls rose around them. There was no particular allegiance that she swore to Magneto, but his presence here, with her, could end up being mightily inconvenient for her, especially with the few investments she had in the vicinity.

There was black and white, and then there was grey. It had been many, many years since Emma had departed Hellfire's walls, but it didn't mean she lost the connections that were worth just as much as the diamond form she had. As the head of Frost International, Emma, owned, if not manipulated a significant investment portfoilo. With that, of course, came a mantle of responsibility that made her a very visible person among society's elite. Her loyalties lay with Scott Summers and the X-Men, and everyone who knew her was aware of it -- it still did not stop them from trying to buy her assistance, which she gave, should the occasion call for it, and should their purposes align.

That, she gathered, was entirely the reason for Magneto seeking her out. There had been various skirmishes, none that she had been involved in directly, due to her business travels and other responsibilities, but she had heard of it from her colleagues. Magneto had the opportunity to meet his grandchildren, even Lorna's little girl, and that had been a point of contention of the children's safety thus far.

"It has, Erik," Emma said, looking up with a placid smile. "Coffee?" A simple telepathic request was sufficient for a waiter to bring over a fresh cappuccino, laying down the sugar and biscotti with a blank look in his eyes. "How are the grandchildren?" she asked, taking a sip of her latte, keeping the conversation light. If he had a purpose for this conversation, Magneto would reveal it in due time. He might be one of the world's foremost terrorists, but he had Emma's respect, not only for his powers, but also for his unwavering advocacy for mutant rights. That he exercised those rights in rather dubious manners, that was an entirely different situation. She would not intrude on his mind.

"Thank you. Would you mind doing your thing? I would rather not cause a scene here and your talents are far better at preventing that than my own." Magneto preferred to not have to continually bend the light around himself since not only was that incredibly testing on his powers, it also did not prevent anyone from getting too close to himself which telepathy was far better suited for.

It was no secret that Erik had met with his grandchildren and no doubt that had put the cat among the pigeons at Xavier's mansion. "For better or for worse they continue to display the influence that Summers has on them." Erik was not here to talk about them though, or the situation he finds himself in where his rival has a greater influence over his immediate family than he does himself. "But I am not here to discuss my disdain for your commander in chief or my grandchildren for that matter." Erik's tone remained polite despite the fact that he was changing the topic.

"Well that is not quite true, I'm curious about what Summers is up to and what he knows, but I will not be so crass or indignant as to ask you to share information you have on your friends with me. That I can find from other sources." Exactly what these sources were, Erik was of course not willing to share. Especially since she had so successfully infiltrated the minds of those at the school before, he did not want to risk Claudine being caught if he so chose to use her again.

"I am more looking for information, or at least the sharing of information on something that could equally benefit us both." Erik's gloved hands remained on the table as he regarded Emma. It was no secret that Magneto wanted to build an empire of his own, that could be led by the House of M and its allies, but Erik was not about to go and revisit Sanctuary again, that ship had sailed.

"What do you know of Genosha? And do you have any contacts there?" He spoke lifting the coffee cup to his lips. Letting the words sink in with Emma for a few moments.

"Since you say it is 'my thing' then obviously it has already been done, Magneto. It serves neither of our purposes if you are seen here with me."

Emma briefly contemplated notifying Scott or the X-men of Magneto's presence, yet something prompted her to sit and listen to what he had to say before passing judgement. So many oppurtinities he had to effect harm on them, and he had not. It stood to reason, logically, that Magneto had other purposes in mind.

"Genosha?" Emma murmured mildly, taking a sip of her drink. "Likely I know what you know as well -- an economically steady country, prosperous, highly advanced, in terms of technology. A small country that can be easily controlled... and perhaps of an interest to you, they have no mutant rights, in fact much of Genosha's prosperity is built from the blood of enslaved mutants."

Emma arched a brow at him. "I have contacts everywhere. But why you assumed that I would be forthcoming with that information is beyond me, you know I've long washed my hands off such scandalous matters. As it was, people with sins to repent for generally do not live very exciting lives," she said drily. Whatever people may think of her, Emma did trust Scott Summers. She had stopped dipping her toes in little projects such at these, and she doubted Magneto had anything that would entice her for her loyalties to sway.

"There was a time when you enjoyed being seen with me, Emma. Still, I understand how fleeting loyalties can be. Especially when presented with a choice between working with the Summers and remaining with the insanity that was Exodus." There was no accusation in his voice, no judgement, just a simple statement of facts. Magneto's own loyalties were more flexible than most, he was loyal to himself, but everyone else? His loyalty waxed and waned depending on how useful they were to him and how well they pleased him. "But thank you for doing it nonetheless. I would rather not be dealing with scared humans today."

Erik folded his hands together as he listened to what Emma knew of Genosha. "Interesting to me perhaps," Erik remained noncommittal in his response for the moment. "Though that is all information you can find on the UN's website, though they don't tend to advertise the fact that their economy is built entirely on the backs of enslaved mutants." There were few that could raise rabbles in the way that Erik could, even now his voice was beginning to show just how passionately he felt about his cause, but this was no sales pitch. Erik did not want to recruit Emma Frost, he knew where her loyalties lay, but this was more a common courtesy. The Brotherhood and the X-Men did not need to fight each other, they wanted the same thing. Acceptance of Mutants, the problem was they were both coming from it from differing angles. Without Charles at their helm, Magneto believed that the X-Men were becoming far more than Xavier could have imagined, but still, they were always going to be on the back foot when it came to dealing with humans.

"The mutants in Genosha are property, owned by the state as soon as an X-Gene is detected at birth. They are then conditioned to be compliant and put to use somewhere in the island's economy." Erik could understand using science to get the most out of a mutant's powers - his own physique was enhanced by the science of Mister Sinister, but stripping free will was never something that Erik could get behind. "The island itself is currently in favour with the UN and by extension SHIELD, who both seem to be quite happy with ignoring the fact that the island is ignoring the rights of a large percentage of its population." Erik paused and brought his cup to his lips and sipped at the contents.

"It is time for a regime change on Genosha. Whether Scott agrees with my methods or not, this has got to happen before other countries get the idea that it is ok to use mutants to fuel an economy and so I was hoping I could persuade you to convince Scott to stay his hand should he or Jean detect my plan and before you say it. I'm aware you could tell them right away, but I think you are smarter than that." Erik's hands folded once again and lay on the table, he had played his hand and it was time to see how Emma reacted.

There was a code of honour that was carried by those of their ilk. Emma Frost and Erik Lensherr, along with many other leaders who oftentimes fought even on warring sides, held that code to heart, even when all others were rendered inapplicable. Among those of them who wielded such powers, those who considered themselves peers, there was a kind of mutual respect that held steadfast. The offence that Emma took from Magneto’s words was non-existent. He paid her a courtesy call, and it was in a similar vein of courtesy that she would reply.

“My influence over Scott Summers has always been secondary to that of his own ideals. If he thought that it was for the greater good that you be stopped, there is hardly anything I could say that would influence him to act otherwise,” Emma said simply. There was no bruised pride in that admission, rather more a statement of fact. The leader of the X-Men held himself to a higher standard of behaviour. Privately, Emma wondered if even Jean held saw over her own husband’s mind, once it was set.

“He has other ways of discerning your next movements, whether I tell him or not, but perhaps you would consider approaching your own children?” She mused, mildly. With the marriage of Polaris and Havok, the house of M was joined to the Summerses even more closely than skirmishes of ideals.

“I cannot condone, obviously, then enslavement of our kind,” Emma continued after a moment, as if she had taken that time to consider her own personal stance. “You put whatever peace that has been brokered thus far in a very precarious position, Erik...” she sighed, for she had gleaned the greater worth of this regime change he spoke of, “and yet if there was another way, it would surely have been done well before now.”

"Perhaps. But you can bend his ear, to prove to him that chasing the Brotherhood and its allies across Genosha is a task that would require more effort than is worthwhile." Erik stated, there was a level of respect held for the school's headmaster, but at the same time, he did not wish to cross paths with him on the battlefield again. The stadium attack had proven that the X-Men were just as prevalent as ever and with the added complication of familial ties meant that Erik did not wish to have to hurt Scott Summers unless it was absolutely necessary. "There is far more at stake than my own ego, there are young mutant lives at stake here and I will not see their lives harmed because Scott Summers cannot see beyond the stagnant viewpoint that Charles Xavier taught him all those years ago."

Really, Erik should have contacted his children about his plans for Genosha, "Lorna has children to think of, and I will not drag her across the globe when they are so young." There was also the question of trust, both Pietro and Wanda were bedmates with SHIELD and Erik was planning an attack against one of their sole suppliers of anti-mutant technology. "We shall see how this unfolds, as it unfolds." Perhaps in time his children would realise the errors of their ways and would join him at his side as his true heirs but he doubted that.

"There is always something to shatter the peace, Emma. You should know that better than anyone," There had been many beings, and groups that had shattered the peace for mutants and humans alike over the years, Erik just happened to be one of those force's that persisted, no matter what happened to him. "You know I will not stop until mutants have what humans continue to hold on to. If the peace is shattered because of that, then it will be worth it. You and many mutants may not thank me for it now, but one day I will be thanked for what I have done for our kind." Or perhaps reviled for it, however, Erik was not one to believe that he ever did anything wrong.

"You sacrifice human lives for your purposes, Erik," Emma said without judgement. She was many things in life, but she had always been honest about the kind of person she was -- and to some extent still was. That she had buried those inclinations under a need of repayment to those who had saved her was a different issue. She found she did not always agree with the label of black or white; her allegiance had always been to herself, and if others were hurt because of it, then it was simply the way of the world. A shrewd businesswoman, Emma had enough foresight to see that Erik's moves were inevitable, and yet...

"There is nothing I can say that would dissuade you," she sighed. "And of course, it is evident that you know your own capabilities to attempt such a mission. I cannot help but feel that this conversation, you should have had with Scott himself. If anything, to hear straight from you, instead of through an intermediary... Unwilling as I am... It would have a rather weaker effect. Not to mention the existence of his hot-tempered wife, who is inclined to disagree with everything I say despite its logic."

The world was like a gigantic wound. One that they had tried to patch up, almost constantly. Now it seemed, just as it had been surgically pieced back together, another terror was threatening to break it apart. "You know your children have fought for this peace," Emma murmured. Magneto on his own was already a neigh unstoppable force. But the select talents that he had gathered to him this time made him even stronger.

"Perhaps you would be appreciated in some circles," she acknowledged. "But not if your minions continue to wreck havoc on innocents. Keep them in line, Erik, is all I can offer you, else there can be no way of negotiation with Cyclops, no matter my manners of persuasion."

"Humans sacrifice human lives for their own purposes, Emma." Erik retorted, "It is the way the world works since we crawled out of the cradle of life. Human society has been built upon the sacrifices of the weak, or have you forgotten that?" Humans and mutant were alike were just as primal as they had ever been, the only difference now was the fact that they had the technology to do their killing and there was always some rationale behind their killing.

"Perhaps it would be better to do so I would admit, however, there is a difference between them and yourself Emma." Erik began to explain himself as he observed the world around him from the safety of Emma's shielding, "You are not ruled by your emotions. Jean for all her power is ruled by her emotions - she has not changed all that much from the child that Charles and I met many years ago; just now it is her love for Scott that controls her. Scott is ruled by his view that the only way forward is to sue for peace. He will either waste his time trying to convince me that stoicism is way forwards with this problem or the moment that my back is turned he will run to the coat tails of SHIELD. Something that I cannot allow to happen just yet." Two steps ahead was where Erik needed to remain, and Scott made that harder to do given his firm view on morality.

"You are more predictable, the safer bet if you were. Which was why I came here, rather than going to the gates of the school." Whether it would pay off, has yet to be seen, but perhaps things would continue to go his way for the time being.

"I'm aware my children have taken a different viewpoint to my own, a disappointment for sure, but they must find their own way in the world." Even if Erik disagreed with the methods that his children employed, Erik could not deny that Lorna, Pietro and Wanda were doing some good for the world, even if that included humans as well as mutants. "They also have children of their own to consider. I would not take them away from them." A momentary weakness for the Master of Magnetism, but it was for his family, that Erik was doing this after all.

"Do not worry Emma. I will keep my people in order, I do not go into this lightly and if this is going to succeed then they are going to need to show a level of discipline I doubt any of them have seen before." but if anyone was capable of instilling such order into a group such as the Brotherhood without it descending into chaos then it was going to be Magneto.
