One that I think should definitely be mentioned here is the soundtrack of Panty and Stocking.![]() Comically named "The Worst album" is in my opinion one of the best music albums made for an anime. |

The soundtrack for the movie Akira.![]() Without a doubt a creative approach to creating musical atmosphere. Many of the tools used in producing the soundtrack aren't even instruments at all. Many of the songs rely on breathing and vocalization of words or repetitive noises. e.g. Battle against the clowns The main leading element through the most known and recognized pieces are the rhyme they posses. Fast and haunting or disturbing and slow. The tracks can easily be called experimental and I dare to say revolutionary. This is a definitely a soundtrack to remember. |

There isn't a doubt in my mind that the entire soundtrack production for Ghost in the Shell can be mentioned here but I'd like to dedicate a special moment to honor the movie Innocence. The movie was stunning in its totality but I was always swept of my feet by the amazing soundtrack. Nearly all songs of this soundtrack are made with the help of a Japanese choir singing parts of the Shintō prayer too kami emi tame and taiko drums. I'm blown away at how much they can create and how the songs still variate event hough it's always the same concept used. It really helps reflect an atmosphere of mystery and a world we don't know but stare at in awe. It's the concept of a modernistic world of technology throw against the sounds of ancient tradition and religion. The two idea's are so conflicting and yet they support each other as they open up a whole new experience for the audience. Nothing is as meaningful to that as the opening birth scene. I love how it is a prayer that rings in our ears while we watch a world conflicted with the idea of God. A world where humans are starting to play 'God' themselves, creating artificial life. |

Higurashi soundtracks were the first to pop up in my mind, they made the anime feel so intense! I don't know which ones to post that I like most, because I LOVE them all xD Kawaii Kenji is def one of my fav composers for anime soundtracks. Every track held the perfect emotion for each scene. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iO2SOAc5Tic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wcipBgT_Bw I could post them all seriously xD Oh and I absolutely agree with all your choices lun xD |

Death Note![]() I'd like to refer to the non-choir portion. Most of Death Note's soundtrack consist out of lazy yet haunting guitar pieces. I don't mind the loud choir parts but for me these guitar bits speak more to the Death Note experience then anything else does. It's also very rare to find a composition of tracks that do not include string instruments (meaning violin or cello). Besides the occasional percussion addition, not much else is added. Nor is that needed. |

Durarara![]() Durarara consists of jazzy music. The music is ALIVE. The music walks and talks and SHOUTS and whispers and stutters and dances and flutters and trips and falls and floats back up. The music is the story. The music are the characters. It reminds me much of old silent films where the music acted as verbal animation only instead of a piano tune they bring in the entire orchestra. |

I was in doubt on whether to mention this one. But I'm going to anyway.![]() Soul eater is probably the only anime I know that uses a hip hop motivated Soundtrack. With the bright colors and the graffiti/hip hop inspired drawings in the manga it's not an odd choice. Not all songs are hip hip orientated though. There is opera, jazz, psychedelic, industrial, string or piano melodies. The soundtrack is entirely created based on the characters. Each character has it's own set of songs with lyrics meant for them. This creates a very variate list of tunes. The independent songs that do not rely on a character are very psychedelic, wild and colorful in arrangement. What I like most about the second volume is the reprise songs. They took the outgoing character songs from volume 1 and turn them into new additions, mostly fitting to the challenge the character will under go. Soul goes from a very hip hip orientated song, up beat and fun to a more drained, slowed song. While Soul's reprise song goes dark, blackStar's song goes completely crazy. the songs depict the mental state of the heroes. The soundtrack is unique in it's being and nothing else would fit Soul Eater as much as these self inspired songs. I have to say some of my all time favorite anime soundtrack tunes are from Soul Eater. |

![]() My first impression when listening to the Tekkonkinkreet is the way the sounds are so overwhelming yet not intrusive. They break in all at once and just captivate you. The Plaid album is a set. Unlike most anime soundtracks that can be broken into string instruments, a piano melody, a character song, a theme song..... this album is a completion. It's all the "same sound" but orientated in different atmospheres. For me it's much a switch between relaxing moments and out bursts of childish joy. The whole soundtrack breathes of playfulness and fantasy. I can just see all the trinkets of instruments used and played with while creating this album. |

![]() And of course Baccano! You will not find another anime soundtrack like the one in Baccano. In correspondance with the old western themed gangster scene so does the music breathe of the early 1900 life. Dominated by the swing fever and the blasting trumpets, the dancing piano's and jazzy bass-players so will this soundtrack have you snapping your fingers and ready to go out for a night of devilish mischief. Gamble your luck away baby and smuggle in some hootch, us bad boys are in town tonight. Same is in Duarara, of which it shares it's animation studio, the music tends to take on a life of it's own, not caring about the melody but tripping over itself and shouting at the audience when needed. |

I just started watching this creepy anime, 'Another', and I noticed the awesome background music. It's all a bit distorted in a way, it really gives a weird vibe. I can't find many soundtracks of it on youtube though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPU65w1X3qs |

![]() Kaiba OST isn't the most creatively original soundtrack amongst anime but I still feel it deserves a place in the topic. Kaiba is a very science fiction orientated anime and the music really helps to bring that out in the story. There are very electronic inspired songs but aside from Baby's Noise, the music doesn't really carry the electronic aspect. I think that's because the Kaiba world, though foreign, isn't mechanically inspired. It's sci-fi without really stressing the science part. I read a comment once on a review of Kaiba where the person described that the Kaiba anime was a very silent one and had a great lack of music guidance. The person found that the silences were mostly carried by the conversations. I don't fully agree with that kind of description, but I do understand what the person means. You will not find sweeping soundtracks that suddenly overwhelm and take you with them into the moment. Kaiba doesn't have that kind of musical support. But it doesn't need it. The music is a mood setter. It mostly accentuates the strangeness and bizarreness of the Kaiba atmosphere. I personally always though the music made me feel very bizarre, but then again the entire anime makes me feel very bizarre xD Kaiba- Initialize Me (my favorite one) Kaiba- Crazy in Love (a moment specific song) Kaiba- The Tree Song (scat) (Theme version) Kaiba - Planet (Blueing Version) (one of the songs that makes me feel so weird and bizarre) Can't find Baby's Noise on youtube :T |
