JJBA is the story about the Joestar family and an evil vampire named Dio. Back in 1880's England a crook named Dario Brando finds the wreckage of a crashed carriage. He decides to rob the carriage but finds that the man and the baby in the carriage have survived. The man, George Joestar mistakenly thinks that Dario saved him and his son and promises him to return the favor. Years later Dario Brando is about to die and tells his son Dio about the favor George Joestar owes him. Dio goes to the Joestar family and becomes George's adoptive son. But Dio is a wicked man and intends to destroy the life of George's son, Jonathan, and steal his inheritance. Over the years Dio attempts to break Jonathan but Jonathan discovers Dio's plans and sets out to bring him to justice. Many years ago the Joestar family got their hands on a mysterious stone mask. Jonathan, interested in archeology, decides to study the mask. He and Dio discover it holds a terrible secret. The mask can turn people into vampires. Driven into a corner after being confronted with his own crimes, Dio decides to reject his humanity and uses the stone mask to become a vampire. and so begins the bizarre adventure!! JJBA is one of the longest running series in Japan and is divided in parts. Currently part 8 is published monthly. Part 1 and 2 have gotten a new anime and part 3 is currently being aired weekly. Each part focusses on a different Jojo, down the generations of the Joestar family. ![]() JJBA is a shounen manga Part 1 and 2 are a bit slow to follow. Once you get to part 3, things start to really pick up. Part 3 is also the part that brought the series it's popularity. Part 1 and 2 focusses on "ripple" technique while from part 3 and onwards the series has a focus on "Stands". Though part 1 and 2 aren't immediately as addicting as the other parts, I definitely recommend you don't skip them (and they aren't as long as the other parts) JJBA is known for it's bright colors used in the colored illustrations and the use of band names and song titles for the characters in the story. e.g. you'll meet such opponents called ACDC, Vanilla ice, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Aerosmith... |

“I can’t tell if it’s a gay manga disguised as a battle manga or an adventure series disguised as a fashion magazine.” –fan reaction to Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure The quote above pretty much nails it, though I’d also add that Jojo is a horror manga disguised as a superhero comic – or vice versa - [ source ] that sums it up pretty well lol |
