Every one of us knows who they are, and most of us wish they didn't exist. Hunters are fanatically devoted to ending the existence of all supernatural life, and they're pretty good at it too, which makes them major thorns in our side. Regardless of how we actually treat humans, all hunters hold a mistaken belief that every single paranormal and supernatural entity is a threat to humanity and must be eradicated. Some are indoctrinated religiously, others simply brainwashed by fascist governments and racial purists. All of them are dangerous, and should be avoided.

Like mages, hunters can read auras, and like vampires and werewolves, they have enhanced senses, superhuman reflexes, agility, toughness, and strength, but unlike those things, they are not born (creation of a vampire constitutes a birth in that their abilities are inherited and cannot be reversed) with these abilities, they are imbued with them by an external source. Of course, most hunters view their own abilities as unholy and filthy and inhuman, and seek to rid themselves of them as soon as they are no longer physically fit to hunt, or sooner in some cases, but they use their gifts with efficiency and tact.

Some hunters specialize in eliminating specific beings, but usually do not gain any extra abilities; they simply have more specialized training and equipment. For example, vampire hunters carry stakes and a sturdy blade, as well as firebombs or flammable chemicals, werewolf hunters carry rifles loaded with silver bullets, mage hunters carry weapons and restraining gear which neutralize magic, and so forth. Many hunters choose this path after being wronged by the particular form they hunt, but some just enjoy hunting specific beings.
