"Damn it"

Sweat trickled down his brow as Klentz ran down the stairs, his breath weak, and arms shivering. He couldn't see it, nor could he hear it, but he knew it was there.

His arms were starting to feel the burden of the weight of his weapon, his eyes darted around wildly. He had left his fellow survivors upstairs a few minutes ago, choosing to go alone, it was probably for the best, as much as possible he avoided relying on other people.

As soon as he hit the 3rd floor though, all hell broke loose.

Bodies - ripped apart, bones, faces, limbs everywhere - not necessarily attached to each other. He couldn't understand it, he handled the first few zombies just fine, they weren't exactly pleasant, but he could safely say they didn't scare the shit out of him. This one however, was driving him insane. This one was different.

There was barely any light to see across the hallway, truth be told, he wasn't sure he wanted to see what horrors lay ahead of him. He had just caught a glimpse of it, it didn't move like the rest, it darted across the walls, thriving in the dark corners, out of sight. But he could feel its gaze, piercing into the very fiber of his soul.

He tried to calm himself down, he had to, the cool characters never freak out in a moment like this. "Oh God, whats wrong with me" His inner voice echoed. "I was doing fine, handling each situation with cool, calculated precision (well, sorta). What the hells gotten into me?"

He was almost at the first floor. He was so close. Oh god....

It stood at the foot of the stairs, its body was small, slender, petite (a girl?), but there was something in the way it moved, in the way it carried itself, that made it tower over every single nightmare your mind could ever conjure.

His heart was pounding, his breath weak, "Was this it? The final boss already? This early in the game?" Klentz almost found it funny how his overactive mind could still make gaming comments in such dire situations -almost

It let out a screech, his vision blurred, he felt like throwing up, out of the corner of his eyes he saw it approach him, hair swaying loosely to the floor. As the ringing pierced his ears he swore he heard voices, serene melodious whispers, which somehow, did not bring with them comfort.

A small figure emerged from bottom of the staircase, where the SPO Orgs usually keep their published works ready for distribution. Motionless, it was stealthily cloaked in the corner, but now, it decided to move on forward, seeing that there might be something else to feast on. It heard the footsteps running down the flights of stairs and it waited patiently for the man to arrive, and when the source of the sound made its way to it, it was pleased. It stood at the foot of the stairs, blocking any form of escape.

It stepped forward into the light, revealing itself. Her right arm was scratched out, bits of veins and bones visible. Some of its' hair seemed to have been pulled off of the scalp but even then, it was apparent that the creature standing there was formerly a girl.

A cry escaped its lips before slowly moving up the stairs towards its new target. A gentle hum reverberated all over the staircase, like a silent symphony playing a melancholic, and equally horrifying, tune with every step it took.

Klentz wasn't sure anymore, the walls cascaded like waves, the floor was melting before his feet, the figure was moving closer.
Strange, perhaps his eyes weren't working properly, as she moved closer and closer she seemed less scarred, less ravaged, more human.
He could see her face now, pale skin, eyes black puddles, blood trickling down her lips, and yet she now radiated a sense of beauty which Klentz could not deny. He couldn't concentrate, he wasn't sure anymore if he wanted to.

With all the will he could muster, he swung his broken lamppost blindly.
It missed (as usual), however, the weight of his swing brought him off balance, knocking him over, his head hit floor with a solid, and painful thud.

Suddenly everything was clear again, he could feel the pain, feel the fear, the eerie calm that had come over him had stopped.
He scurried to his feet, he would take no more chances, he was running away.

He ran back up the stairs, at the corner of his eye, he saw the girl disappear into the shadows once again.
"Was she going for a second strike?" He wasn't going to stay to find out. Klentz hurled himself towards the window on the second floor, landing on the roof below. Shattered glass cut through his clothes and flesh.

As Klentz winced, he made a mental note "Contrary to what you see in the movies, jumping through glass hurts like hell."

He threw his lamppost to the first floor then jumped down. As he made contact with solid concrete Klentz made another mental note "God, they should sue movie makers for making this stuff look so easy, and painless"

He picked up his weapon, and made his way towards the south gate, as he ran away he could feel the siren's presence fade. The unexplainable fear he had experienced was immediately washed away and replaced with adrenaline and relief.
"Whew I bet i looked awesome jumping out the window like that!, as for you," he said looking at his weapon "your "impracticality" saved my ass, HA! and to think ark said it was unwise"

As he walked to south gate, a part of his mind wandered back to those dark corridors, to the haunting song which would still echo in his mind during those moments between sleep and wake.

....As you walk the steps of SPS, you can't help but feel a sense of unexplained dread - the type of terror and tension you feel right after you've woken up from a nightmare....Somethings is watching you, and it feels more like a ghost then a zombie.
