NAME:American Rhinatee. TYPE:Rhinatee-Hoofed mammals. STATUS:Vulnerable. POPULATION:30,000 approximatly. LOCATION:Gulf of mexico, florida, the atlantic coast as far north as New York. BIOME:Coastal, Wetland, Rivers. APPEARENCE:Large bulky manatee-like creature with the head of a rhinoceros including two horns. Covered in brown fur and a sharp claw on each hand. Usually about 6-8 feet long. BEHAVIOR:Mostly peaceful like a manatee but it can deliver a nasty attack if startled. HISTORY:Discovered in the early 1900s. It's been hunted for horns and fur but has been on protection laws for a while. CAPTIVITY:There are two aquariums in the United States who have rhinatees. The downtown aquarium in Houston, and Sea world san diego. ![]() NAME:Common flying lizard. TYPE:Flying lizard-lizards and snakes. STATUS:Secure. POPULATION:To high to count. LOCATION:Worldwide. Except antarctica. BIOME:Everything except tundra. APPEARENCE:Pretty much exactly like a green anole. Only with two wings coming from their shoulders. These wings, are accually two small limbs covered with special scales called "false feathers" which strongly resemble feathers. There bones are hollow like bird and htey can literally fly. Including the tail, they can be 6 inches long and with a 5 inch wingspan. BEHAVIOR:Will quickly fly away from people. If grabbed, they can lose there tail and grow it back or bite. They often live alone but during migration they can form gigantic swarms. HISTORY:It's been know for centuries. People often see them as pests. They are also kept as pets. CAPTIVITY:Even though other species of larger flying lizards are quite popular in zoos, the common flying lizard is so common that it dosen't need to be in zoos. They are commonly kept as pets by many people though. ![]() Tell me if oyu like it and I'll post more. |
