It had been hectic these last few months. With the newly formed Earth Federation swinging in full to begin mobilization of all units for both terrestrial and extraterrestrial activity, there had been little time for rest. Having had to go around the globe recruiting soldiers that he'd personally hand-picked, with the help of Lt. Rune, was also beginning to take its toll. There hadn't been much time for the old veteran of many battles, no time to grieve for the loss of his wife and children, no time to relax and enjoy the company of returning friends. These months had taken their toll, and Kieran Zono was looking a shell of his former self.

His temperament was hidden well underneath those glasses of dark hue, however red eyes revealed many sleepless nights. Driven from Nightmares or heat illness one wouldn't know, but it was obvious he'd been hurting. Though physically he was fit as a fiddle, didn't' look worse for wear, his very essence and presence seemed hollow. This was not the same man who'd fought through waves of enemies in Iskander. This was not the same man who fought hard and helped win the African campaign, No. This was someone else, someone completely different yet still the same.

"Now arriving at Australia base of operations".

As the Medea made it's final preparation for landing, Kieran retreated once more within the torn asunder thoughts that lay beneath his mind. Once the VTOL landed, Zono found himself walking off the base as swiftly as possible and hailing a Taxi. He was dressed in his civilian outfit; white button up short sleeve, brown khaki's and a suede lounge coat. As the vehicle stoped, he issued his directions and leaned into his seat, bag at his right. It had been a long time since he'd been to Australia and once more he marveled at the beauty of the nation. It had been a long time since Kieran had come to earth originally just to find his "Brother" Fayt Leingod, and here he was still fighting strong for the very people his friend had put faith into. Yet there was someone else whom he had owed a visit, and respect would be given this day.

The Taxi let the Master Chief off at the entrance to the military memorial and drove off upon payment. Carrying his bag, the pilot made his way through the cemetery for quite a time, before stopping at a beautiful plot with the name "Halsey". Kneeling down to the stone, Kieran silently offered a prayer that he'd learned years prior and began to speak to the stone. It was here that the patriarch of the Halsey family had been lain to rest, and it was here that Kieran offered his deepest respect for the man whom he'd gained much respect for.

"Sir..."

It was Senior Halsey's daughter whom he'd served with in the Commonwealth, and it was he himself that Kieran had fought with years prior...under a different flag. Yet still, respect was earned and the two men would've had much to speak of. In times like this, Kieran truly wished circumstances were different, as the one whom he could've relied on the most for solid advice and consoling was now gone as well. It seemed to the Aging chief that everyone he loved or cared for seemed to just end up as worm food or worse...drifting aimlessly through the sea of stars. It was here that Kieran remained, and as the sun rose up in the sky, the conversation with no one continued.

"Sis, its time to go. Mom is waiting." The blonde haired young man told his sister, his blue eyes contrasted against his red tie and all black suit. His leather dress shoes had been shined to perfection as the old man would have liked. "I'll be right there Junior, go warm up the car." the woman replied, her own long blonde hair had been put into a braid, dressed in a matching black skirted suit with a white tie, her own signature color, with long black stockings an black heels.

It had taken some getting used to wearing them in her new civilian life, after all she had been quite the tomboy for most of her life and the military didn't require someone to have heels on. Her family's military history was long and illustrious, and it was expected of her and her younger brother to continue their service to the Federation despite all the pain they felt. Being the last two Halseys left, they could not stand it yet somehow their mother was the calmest of the three. By the time Marisa Ambrose had met with Sirius Halsey, he was the last son of the Halseys. Sirius Marius Halsey managed to rebuild, bringing a new family into the world and giving his mother the grandchildren she had always wanted. Maybe somewhere deep down Marisa knew his day would come...

How did he manage it . . .? To stay in the family business, when all it did was kill all of the family around you?

Sera sighed, the old man was strong and maybe that's why he was against having her join the military. Her blue eyes stared out the window, before she finally remembered. Shaking her thoughts from her head, she took one last look in the mirror and smiled. Sera had done her best, she would be happy with this but she wasn't serving the government that fought against itself for only a change in the name. She was disgusted that it had to come to that, the Federation and Zeon were all the same in her eyes now.

Walking out of the front door of Halsey Manor and made her way to the car in the front, taking the back seat beside her mother inside the Holden. The two kids were quiet, Marisa couldn't help but take her daughter's hand knowing that she was still troubled even after all this time. Sera smiled, leaning her head on her mother's shoulder and sighing as the older woman stroked her young daughter's hair. They entered the military cemetery, on their drive to their father's plot they noticed a man standing in front of it.

"Sera, do you know who might that be?" the younger Marius asked, as she looked out the window. "He looks familiar..." Sera murmured, as they drove up behind the man when she finally realized who it was. "Kieran Zono..." Sera added, wondering just what brought the man to visit their father's grave. Considering it was so out of the way to visit Australia, yet that demanded from the younger Halseys a lot of thanks and respect for the man. As they exited the car, coming beside Kieran and saluting the grave of their father, Old Captain Ironsides.

"Thank you for visiting, I'm sure the old man would appreciate it."

Though he overheard the soft squeak of the brake pressure being applied, Kieran did not turn to regard the car. His thoughts were too in his private thoughts. Movement to his sides caused him to look up and regard first Marius then his sister, the beautiful and talented Sera Halsey.

"Thank you for visiting, I'm sure the old man would appreciate it."

A simple nod was all he could offer for the moment as he gazed once more upon the monument to Sirius. His family was here and for the moment, he felt as if he shouldn't be. Clearing his throat he began to speak to them both. His voice rough for a moment as strained vocal chords held back the urge to let out emotion.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to intrude on your private time. I wasn't aware anyone would be visiting today..."

He should've realized that the Halsey's would be visiting, should've called forward and inquired but he hadn't. Stupid Kieran. Sighing he knelt down and grasped hold of his Bag Strap. Turning on his heel, he apologized once more and made a motion to leave. The Halsey's were no longer members of the Earth Military, nor were they even members of the Federation. The death of the Patriarch had left them wounded and as such they'd left. It was silly, but he couldn't bring them into matters of the federation, of his own.

"I should get to my hotel, I'm on leave for the moment and should probably try and relax..."

It was apparent by the tone of his voice that he was hiding pain behind that strong exterior. Even moreso, for Sera, than for Marius who'd never really met him before. Still, he didn't wish to cause the family any more interruption with their time and as such made his motion to leave. Saluting the grave once more, he nodded respectfully to Sera, Marius and of course their Mother in turn.

Marisa and Sera could both note the man was hiding something, one of course with mother's intuition while the other from prior experience she had serving with him. "Oh no, we don't mind at all. Please pay your respects to Sirius with us." the matriarch told him, as Sera had taken a hold of his shoulder. "Yes, you've come all this way. Please, stay and you should even have dinner with us. It's the least we can do." requested the former Lieutenant, her brother and mother nodded as Marisa walked over and left a bouquet of flowers upon the grave.

"My mother makes quite the home cooked meal, I don't think you'd be one to pass that up eh? My ol' man would haunt any man who would." Marius joked as he smiled looking toward his father's tombstone. Loyal Soldier, Dedicated Father and Beloved Husband. His most outstanding and simple qualities, he would remember when his father would finally come back home and have a meal with the three of them. That was where his father was happiest, where he saw the man smile the most.

"And if you are done speaking to my father, you wouldn't mind waiting for a few?" Seraphina added tilting her head with a smile, hoping Kieran really knew that the family was happy to have him. She knew days off in the military were something you had to appreciate, even in these dark times. There had to be some light to find in them.

He wanted to argue, but something inside...he knew it would be rude. Afterall, he'd only chosen Australia as to tie up loose ends. Mayhaps this was for the best afterall. Nodding to Marina and Sera he stood and remained silent as the family paid their respects, even accepted their request to join them for dinner. When he was done, he stood back silently and leaned against one of the trees.

He chuckled at Marius' words of his mothers cooking. This family, it reminded him of a better time in his life. He wished so desperatly the children could've met them. He had much respect for the entire family of Halsey's but specifically their mourning and visit reminded him once more of his own loss recently. His loss however was left to himself currently, and with that he simply stood silent until the family was done.

"Amen." "Amen." "Amen."

"...We'll see you later father." Sera said as they had all finished their silent prayers and talks to their deceased patriarch. Marius nodded as he looked over to Kieran and motioned to the Holden. Walking over to the right side and opening the door, he got in and started the car. Sera and her mother decided to go in the back with the shotgun being left for their guest.

"So Kieran, how has military life been treating you?" Sera asked as they started on the drive. She did not know what exactly the man had been up to since they served together. And the family wasn't really paying attention to the happenings of the Earth Federation after they had left their military lives. "That's right, so you served with Sera hm? I hope she wasn't too much trouble out there in that case." Marisa said, "Heh, mom Sera's the more responsible one. I wonder how you think I did out there?" Marius the Younger remarked with chuckle. "Junior, you're crazy but mom already knows that much." Sera commented with a laugh of her own.

Sera could feel that he wasn't in the best of moods, but she hoped with a little prodding she could manage to learn why he wasn't quite exactly as she remembered the man.

As the family finished up with their silent prayers and respectful conversations, Kieran stood and grasped hold of his bag before placing it in the trunk of the Holden and moving to the front that had been so graciously left open for him. Moving into the front of the vehicle next to the younger Halsey, Kieran relaxed for a moment. He would've almost dozed off if not for Sera so curiously speaking to him from her mothers side in the rear.

"So Kieran, how has military life been treating you?" Sera's soft spoken voice filled the car as they started on the drive. He hadn't seen her since they served together, and with the Halsey's leaving military service shortly after the founding of the Federation, he'd not had an update on them as it would be obvious they'd not of been updated on the rest. "That's right, so you served with Sera hm? I hope she wasn't too much trouble out there in that case." Marisa, Sirius' wife seemed to speak with a chuckle causing Kieran to smile. "Heh, mom Sera's the more responsible one. I wonder how you think I did out there?" Marius the Younger remarked with chuckle. "Junior, you're crazy but mom already knows that much." Sera commented with a laugh of her own.

This was nice, it was different than the usual hub bub of the Military and it's lack of emotion. This was "family", and he savored it. Clearing his throat, Kieran began to answer all the questions just presented to him before ribbing Sera himself.

"After the commonwealth fell, I was promoted to a Command Master Chief and so far have just been traveling the globe and space finding pilots to fill the positions in a newly formed division based off our old 52nd Mobile. Otherwise, it's been...the same...I guess." It was obvious with that last line Kieran had something else he'd wanted to say but was for now keeping it quiet.

"Yes Mrs. Halsey, I did indeed serve with your daughter and much to her namesake she was actually more of an angel than a burden. She saved my life more times than I care to count. She was easily one of the few soldiers that I'd say I trusted with my life." Kieran looked back, smiled at Sera and nodded before hearing Marius rib on his sister just a bit as well as himself. Chuckling the Master Chief relaxed into his seat enjoying the company.

It was nice to just...blow off steam
