“Pleased to meet you Professor M,” I went shaking his hand, “I am your new student. Ready to learn how to use my powers correctly.” “As new as you can be my boy,” he went smiling, “my first student ever since I joined the school. It is a rare find, I am extremely lucky to have actually received a student before I died!” At this time the train had obviously slowed down as the humming died down to a soft whimper. I peered outside for the first time and rubbed my eyes as they adjusted to the sunlight. My eyes gazed upon a huge pasture with acres of grass and trees. Within the middle of all that serenity was a huge building, nearly scrapping the sky. A castle, designed like a castle from King Arthur’s time, seemed to welcome me to its doors. I was still in awe as the bullet train pulled into a high tech station, and as the steel doors hissed open. “Ahh it is a beauty ain’t it?” went Dean Kimatics, “my house, built like a 1400s castle. The school is on the other side!” I turned and gasped. The school was floating. It’s metallic outside shined in the sun as it hovered above us. I saw flying cars drop off passengers at the school and zoom of to different places on the campus. It looked like it was ripped right out of Star Wars. My school was a floating hunk of technological dreams. By this time Dr. Enigma woke me up from my shocked state and pulled me outside. Once we were off, the train shot off, with such a force that it would make anyone fall down. As I watched it zoom of into the horizon, Dr. Enigma lead from the platform to what looked like a taxi station. Except that the taxis you see in New York were floating and flying around at 150 mph. An air taxi pulled up by us as Dr. Enigma waved one down, and we all got in. After the Dean paid the taxi driver we were off into the sentinel world of metal. As we flew by steel structures, I realized this was a city, not just a school. It was like a haven for paranormal beings, like a separate world from the eyes of mortal people. The Dean then confirmed my thoughts. “Yes this is a full city, Jeff,” he went, laughing, “not just a school. If you look up at the sun you’ll see the school. Right there is the ghost academy, and over there is the first extraterrestrial interstellar airport. This city is like a haven for paranormal beings. It’s a melting pot of different species coming together to form a civilization. This is the city of Paranormal.” “I can’t believe at what technology you have here, such as flying cars, transport tubes, and flying…space…things,” I went still in awe over what amazing things were speeding past me as the taxi cab continued into the city of silver, “It’s amazing at how much things changed from when I remember it!” “Well Jeff, the human race doesn’t know about this…yet,” went Enigma, “our city combined all the technology of many interstellar races living here in Paranormal. So only a fraction of the technology here is actually human. Many species such as the Gyurians, Vulcans, and Resulians have dedicated countless hours to making this city the wonder it is.” I shielded my eyes as the taxi climbed higher into the atmosphere of Earth. The sun’s rays shined into the taxi’s glass windows as we rose higher. Dr. Enigma passed me a pair of sunglasses as we rose even higher. “Don’t want to get blind on your first day do we?” he went chuckling. Finally the taxi slowed down to a stop in a steel terminal. The driver slid down the glass separating him from the passengers and took the coins from the Dean’s hand. He waved as he flew off to pick up more customers, his taxi shooting off like a gold bullet out of the terminal. “Such nice people Vulcans are,” muttered the professor walking up cold, steel steps out of the terminal, “too nice for me though!” I followed them into a beautiful hallway, with lovely tapestries and a long velvet carpet stretching all the way across it. 2 sturdy looking guards stood midway in the hallway, not moving an inch. The Dean lead us down the chamber, pointing out pictures on the wall of famous inventors, founders of the city, mayors, deans before him, etc. I saw many inventors I knew well like Thomas Edison, Elli Witney, even Bill Gates. I walked briskly the rest of the way, pausing occasionally to look at the pictures on the mall whom I have never seen before. I stopped on a picture of a young woman who was so beautiful I felt like crying right there. “Ahhh, an angel picture,” went the Dean taking notice of my gaze, “nothing like her. She was one of the founders of this great city, her name was Angelic. She was one of the few angels who escaped angels’ destiny you know!” “Angels’ destiny?” I asked inquisitively, “where’s that?” “Dr. Enigma if you please?” “Ok I’ll explain it as best as I can, because I am not sure of where it is my self,” went the slightly loony Enigma, “it all started 6 years ago, when a angel came to the doors of Paranormal. Paranormal was still a growing community, almost 5 months old when she came. She said she escaped from “Angels’ Destiny”. Ever wonder why angels only appear before someone dies? Well I believe that angels originate from heaven, I don’t know for sure because most ghost here are either idiots or never been there because their souls are trapped here. That same year regular humans took pictures and in them were sometimes images of devils and angels. One strange picture had an angel and devil attacking each other. From those pictures I believe that the devils and angels have been fighting for centuries, maybe longer. You see the angel that came to us disappeared. Angelic also was missing after only 3 months here. My theory is that the devils have captured angels in a area in hell called Angels’ Destiny, named that because all angels were supposedly trapped there forever.” “So you’re saying that the angels are being captured as used as slaves to kill people?” I went, confused a bit, “why did the angels succumb to the devils?” “Whoever wins a war wins total dominance agreed?” went the Dr. looking at me in a way that only I could describe, “well I believe the devils won!” |

“The devils may have won because the angels are peace loving people,” continued Dr. Enigma, “and they weren’t prepared to fight against devils and demons from hell. Unfortunately I don’t have enough evidence to prove that angel’s did in fact lose the battle so I can’t help them…” “I will…for the sake of the angel I’m trying to find!” I went rather loudly, causing everyone to turn back and look at me, “…I need to find her…I’ll lead them away from those demons. It is my destiny. I survived what was believed to be the final judgement for those who were doomed to die.” By this time we reached the end of the corridor and we took a turn to the left and we “bumped” into a thing as we turned. I looked and it was a ghostly apparition, nearly transparent in color, staring gloomily at us as we looked back at it. It’s face-looked war torn, it’s eyes seeing too many bloody things for a mind to handle. He finally broke the silence: “Art thou gloom today eh master Kimatics?” he went in a old day English accent, “it’ll be best to look out for a storm, I can feel it!” “Gawain, I told you to wait outside with your brother!” went the Dean face flush with red, “you aren’t allowed here after you destroyed half the Great hall jousting with Arthur! Get outside before security comes here and…makes you disappear on spot!” “Ahh me sire I will be off soon, and welcome sire Jeff, may I see you outside one day soon!” and with that the man disappeared into thin air leaving a mist where he disappeared. “Can you believe he once was the most honorable or all the Knights of the Round Table?” went the Dean rather sarcastically, “now he’s reduced to jousting in the Great Hall of my school…funny…yet costly.” Everyone laughed at the Dean’s sudden sense of humor as we continued to walk steadily to this winding spiral staircase. We continued up the staircase until we came to a magnificent gold door. The Dean slid in a gold key and the door opened to reveal a grand room, nicer than any room I’ve ever seen. A great, chrome polished chandelier hung from the ceiling, and a long buffet with steaming platters lined the side of the room. Tables lined with crimson cloth sat many students, chatting and laughing just like in a cafeteria. At the end of the hall were many ghosts, ghouls, goblins alike feasting upon whatever they wanted, some eating rotten flesh as some fairy-like things ate the finest mushrooms found. “Welcome to the Great Hall!” went the Dean smiling, obviously proud of it, “the place where all the students, young, old, dead, come together. Today is a pretty bad day for decorations though, some goblins lit some curtains on fire earlier today as a joke but ended up destroying half the buffet table.” The Dean then led me to the back of the hall, farthest away from the buffet and students. There sat the great teachers of Paranormal. Many of them looked happy, sitting there in an isolated corner of the Great Hall. Some were ghosts, others aliens and one even looked like an ogre. “And here is most finest teaching staff this side of the…Earth…yes…” went the Dean, twiddling his fingers as if to distract me from his mistake, “Here’s Dr. Hyrule Johanson, the teacher of telepathic powers!” “Pleased to meet you Jeff,” went Hyrule in a small voice, he was a fairy after all. “Here’s Professor Lord, teacher of ancient extramundane events” “Hello Jeff,” went the Professor as he took my hand in his skinny fingers, he was a alien “Here’s Dr. Tree, teacher of herbal medicine.” “Pleased to meet you!” went the giant with his booming voice that towered over the great hall’s shining dome ceiling, “I can’t wait to have you in one of my classes!” “Um, excuse me Dean,” went Dr. Enigma poking him in the back, “this was a long day, shouldn’t we show Jeff where he will be staying while he’s here?” “Great idea!” said the Dean happily, “I’ll be glad to. Your comfort is the most important Jeff. It’s first on my list of things-to-do!” The Dean then walked briskly to a door and motioned me to follow him. I waved goodbye to Dr. Enigma and Professor M as I left the Great Hall. Once I turned to look at where the Dean was leading me I saw an amazing site. Hundreds or floating things were floating in front of me and the Dean, hovering above what appeared to be a meadow. The Dean waved down a small trolley looking thing and we boarded it, and the Dean said the number of the dorm I would be staying in. then off we went like a bullet as the trolley searched for my dorm. Finally it found the dorm specified by the Dean and dropped us of on the porch of my dorm. From the outside my dorm looked like a piece of metal with windows. Yet inside the dorm was an entire different story. Beyond the cold, metal outer walls was a comfortable looking room, with many things I’ve never seen before. There were all the things necessary for survival, and a few extra things for my entertainment between classes like on weekends. I walked around in shock at the technology found in my dorm. The Dean smiled at me and said: “Well don’t you just love it? Nice place I must say, fireplace, self starting mind you, stove with meal selection, just type in the meal you want and it’s there in a few seconds, I also got a video game system in here, along with a extraordinary sound system. I also got you very well-written history books, to update you on what happened for those years you were in the coma and a electronic almanac of the past 2000 years. Great ain’t it?” “Yep, I outta agree with you Dean, you outdid yourself by a long shot!” I said shaking his hand, “thank you for everything. This will do fine. I’ll figure out all these gizmos and gadgets in time.” “You best do that sonny,” went the Dean, exiting from my dorm, and poking his head back in said, “tomorrow is class! Your schedule is on the main data screen in your room. Don’t want to be late do we?” |
