Sunlight streamed in through the window, the rays landing on the face of a sleeping figure. He furrowed his eyebrows, turning away from the light before opening his eyes. After a few minutes, he dragged himself out of bed, his curly blonde hair sticking out in odd directions. He stretched and yawned, then went to the bathroom. He picked up his toothbrush and rinsed it off before putting toothpaste on it. He sleepily stared into the mirror as he brushed his teeth. Raivis Galante's odd violet eyes stared back at him in the mirror.

Once he'd finished brushing his teeth, he made a half-hearted attempt to manage his hair. He gave up and went back into his bedroom, slipped out of his pajamas and pulled on a plain white T-shirt and a pair of jeans before going downstairs. It was really quiet in the house; usually there was more going on in the morning. He stood in the doorway of the empty kitchen, then turned, going back upstairs. He plopped onto his bed, picking up his phone from the nightstand, and checked his messages. He sighed, slipping the phone into his pocket as he stood. He lives with his older brother, Toris, who had been called into work early. His other brother, Eduard, had graduated from high school two years earlier than his class and went off to college in a different state. Well, they weren't related by blood, but who syas you have to be blood related to be family?

Raivis grabbed a pair of socks and pulled them on before going back downstairs. He wasn't hungry right now, so he walked past the kitchen and to the front door. He decided since it was summer break and all, why not take a walk? He'd slept in till noon anyways. He pulled his shoes on, grabbed the extra house key, and walked out, locking the door behind him. Raivis began walking down the sidewalk, noticing no one was out. Well, the neighborhood was pretty small anyways, so it's not that weird. He was almost to the exit of the neighborhood when he noticed someone's front door standing open. He didn't know many people in the neighborhood; he was really shy and awkward around people he didn't know. But obviously something was up, no one around here just leaves their front door open. Raivis slowly walked up to the door, peeking in. A car was still in the driveway, so someone must be home right?

"H-hello? Um, you're front door was open..." His voice trailed off, and he briefly listened for an answer. Nothing. Maybe no one was home after all, and they forgot to lock their door. He reached for the door handle to close it when he noticed someone shuffle into the unlit hallway. "Uhm, s-sorry, I was just going t-to shut this, I didn't think anyone was home." He stammered nervously, his hand dropping back to his side. The person turned their head to look at him, and began walking towards the door. Raivis was extremely uncomfortable with the silence. Why didn't they at least say something? "I- I'll jjust, go now." He backed out of the doorway as the man stepped into the light. Raivis stopped where he stood; the man's face was covered in blood and he looked dazed. "O-oh no, what happened? H-hang on, I'll call an ambulance."

He was trying not to freak out; God, there was so much blood. What happened to make his face bleed like that? The man made a raspy noise, reaching his arms out towards Raivis. "Hang on, I-I-I'm getting help." His voice was slightly frantic now as he took out his phone and began dialing. Before he hit the call button, the man suddenly snarled and lunged at Raivis, who screamed and managed to get back before he was grabbed. He dropped his phone in his surprise, backing away from the house. The man stumbled towards Raivis, making inhuman noises and made another attempt to grab him. The boy turned and ran back to his house, shakily unlocked the door and shut it behind him. Why was that guy growling and trying to grab him? Why was he covered in blood? Raivis took a few minutes to calm himself. He would've called the police if he hadn't dropped his phone back there, or if he actually had a house phone.

He stepped back outside, planning to go to another person's house and let them know about the man down the street. He went down a few houses, knowing some of the people nearby weren't home. He went up to a house, knocking on the door a few times. The door opened after a minute or two, and a lady looked down at Raivis, who spoke before she could say anything. "There's a man d-down the street, h-his door was open a-and I tried to t-talk to him, but, he j-jumped at me and he's c-c-covered in blood." He spoke quickly while motioning the the direction of the house. The lady scoffed, patting Raivis on the shoulder.

"That's gotta be my cousin, he's always pulling stupid pranks like that. I'll go tell him off, don't worry." She left, then came back with her car keys. "You wanna hop in? I'm gonna make sure he apologizes to you." She motioned to her car, but Raivis shook his head violently.

"N-no, I d-don't think it's a p-prank." The lady shrugged, hopping into her car and driving down to the man's house. Raivis, watched, then looked to the woman's front door. Under normal circumstances, he wouldn't even consider going into a stranger's house, but he went inside, locating the house phone and called the police, informing them of what happened, and where the man was. Lucky enough, the police station was only five minutes away from here, so someone should be here soon. Raivis bolted out of the house and down the street, trying to see if the lady was out of her car yet. He caught sight of her stopping the car and climbing out. The man was shuffling towards her, while she looked like she was scolding him.

Raivis ran towards them, trying to get to the lady before the man did. Before he got to her, the lady must've finally realized something was wrong and tried to step back, but was grabbed by the bloody man. He bit down on her shoulder, ripping a chunk of skin off. The lady's screams pierced the silence of the afternoon, and Raivis stopped running, dread rushing over him as he realized what the man just did. He was eating her. A car pulled into the neighborhood, a man climbing out and yelling, brandishing a gun at waving it at the bloody man, who took no heed of the cop. The lady continued to scream, and the cop quickly shot the man in the torso, which didn't affect him. A shot to the head, and the bloody man was down.

The cop got the lady in the backseat of his car, then had Raivis climb into the back with her to hold something over her bite wound to stop the bleeding as the cop quickly began to drive them to the hospital. They didn't make it there; as the cop got into a more populated part of the city, seemingly disoriented people were wandering about, covered in blood. Cars were zooming everywhere, not caring to follow traffic laws. Which ended up with a car ramming into the cop's car on the driver's side. The impact caused the car to flip over, causing Raivis to smash his head against the roof of the car since he hadn't put a seat belt on. Glass flew everywhere as the car slid to a stop, rolling back onto its wheels.

Raivis laid there, moving only when his head cleared and his vision stopped spinning. He hadn't taken much damage from the broken glass; he was on the passenger side of the car when they'd been hit. He looked to the cop up front and felt sick; his head head been smashed in and the body was tilted enough for Raivis to see. The lady was obviously dead too. Raivis carefully climbed out, and made his way into a nearby gas station.

The day had begun normally enough for Gilbert Beilschmidt. Wake up late, eat breakfast (which had been prepared by little brother Ludwig before he'd gone to work), then laze around. He'd taken a minute to check the news, but really didn't pay too much attention, and rolled his eyes at the reports. After a full ten minutes of boredom, Gilbert pulled himself from the couch and got dressed in order to go out into the world.

He locked the front door behind him and patted his phone down in his pocket before heading down the street. He walked down to a nearby gas station, needing a new pack of cigarettes and figuring he'd get some snacks while he was at it.

No sooner had he stepped under the awning, that the very loud sound of a car crash caught his attention. He ignored the need for nicotine and ran towards the crash, where many others were starting to gather as well, and saw the smaller man making his way over to the station.
"Hey! You were in that crash, Ja? Are you okay?" he asked. The other seemed familiar, but he couldn't place where he'd know him from.

"I-I think I'm okay... " Raivis looked up at the man, immediately recognizing him. It wasn't like they really knew each other or saw each other often, but he still remembered who this was. What was the name again? Gillian? No, no it was, "Gilbert?"

"Good." he nodded, looking back at the crash. What the hell happened? Gilbert groaned internally when the other said his name. "Uh, ja..." Oh shit... crap what was his name... it started with an R.

Raivis looked to the crash when Gilbert did. He turned back to him, surprisingly calm for what just happened. Shaky and a little banged up, but not as freaked out as he thought he would've been. "U-Uhm, I'm Raivis. I-I don't think w-we've actually t-talked before."

"Right, right. Raivis." Gilbert nodded and snapped slightly. "Yeah, not really... uhm... what the hell?" he narrowed his eyes, looking over at the crash again. The woman was climbing from the smashed police car and a few people rushed over to help her. Soon enough they started screaming after she'd started biting.

"Apparently not..." Gilbert took a step back. "Raivis... something's wrong." When people started screaming, he knew it was true. "Come on, let's get out of here..."

Gilbert led Raivis away from the scene, his cigarettes forgotten with the image of the gnarled and bloody body of that woman trying to eat those around her. He shuddered and pushed the thought away as he pulled his phone from his pocket, dialing Ludwig but not getting an answer. "Damn..."
