Welcome to Gensokyo!
Try not to die.

Touhou Shihan: Victorious Title of The Mysterious Legend (that's what it's called, apparently) will be a pure roleplaying game based in the land of Gensokyo, which a few of you may recognize as the setting of the Touhou series. Gensokyo's backstory is detailed enough to be very interesting, while being vague enough to allow fans to create their own interpretations and theories. It's a bit much to take in at once, so the backstory and lore will be provided as we go.

Before we can start, we need characters. Perhaps you may be one of these:

Humans: Humans in Gensokyo are mundane, as well as diverse. They follow many paths of life, from skilled fighters to farmers, and even, powerful magicians. Despite this, they are at the bottom of Gensokyo's food chain, both figuratively and literally, since they are surrounded with all sorts of mythological beings. Almost without exception, they live in the one and only Human Village, protected by the half beast Keine Kamishirasawa. Though normally outmatched by the things around them, such as youkai or ghosts, some may prove themselves powerful. In fact, some of the most powerful legends in Gensokyo, such as the shrine maiden Reimu Hakurei or magician Marisa Kirisame, are human, and solve "incidents" that would otherwise cause great harm to Gensokyo or its residents.

Outsiders: Outsiders are humans that have been spirited away from the outside world, past the weakest parts of the Hakurei Barrier, and into Gensokyo against their will. They hold little knowledge of Gensokyo, but often have strange knowledge from the outside world. Also, they may have strange tools or technology. One example is the "mobile phone," which outsiders almost always put to their ears before finding that they don't work, at a loss for what to do next. Unfortunately, they often don't know how to craft or repair these objects, making them amazing novelties until they run out of energy or break. If an outsider lives long enough or is lucky enough to wake near the human village or Hakurei Shrine, then they can return home to the outside world. However, some outsiders choose to stay in Gensokyo, and are revered for their strange knowledge.

Fairies: Fairies are the most plentiful beings in Gensokyo, and can be found anywhere, being the physical embodiments of nature. Fairies are small in size, ranging from being able to fit in your palm to as large as a human child. They are all effectively, immortal: even if you slice one into pieces or burn one to a crisp, they will heal themselves and regenerate - and quickly. However, they are much weaker and... dumber than pretty much everything else you would find in Gensokyo. One thing is for sure, though: they are mischievous, and love to play pranks on anybody: human, youkai, tengu, or ghost. These range from harmless (hiding your shoes, stealing food) to becoming violent and attacking with magic due to a lack of common sense and not knowing better, being immortal. Despite this, even an average human can deal with one. Still doesn't stop them from being everywhere and annoying everyone.

Youkai, which is Japanese for "Phantom" or "presence": Youkai have few things in common: they are not human, they prefer night to day, and are usually physically stronger and often have powerful abilities or magic. Their abilities, strengths, and weakness are based on what kind of youkai they are. There are animal youkai, which are animals that have lived for a very long time and become youkai at the end of their lives, and youkai based on objects or things (doll youkai, youkai of darkness), or people (a person who has drowned). Youkai are vilified and feared by humans, coming from the wars that were fought between them and how Youkai used to (and still do, if a human is rude or foolish) killing and/or eating humans. However, this is not always the case. There are plenty of friendly Youkai who are pleasant to be around and will even visit the human village to drink with (human) friends and buy things from its shops.

Ghosts:: Ghosts are the spirits of people who have died and refuse to stay in the netherworld. They are plentiful, and often escape from the Netherworld into Gensokyo. Ghosts can be dangerous, as they often have strange powers and often have the power to manipulate the feelings of humans, making it dangerous to talk to certain ghosts. Having been human themselves, they are often friendly, and in fact are virtually indistinguishable from humans. Until they are at rest or given proper service, the ghost will continue to haunt Gensokyo instead of joining the dead in the netherworld.

There are many other beings in Gensokyo, such as Kappa, Tengu, Celestials, Oni, or Nuclear Hell Ravens. You can ask me about any of these if you'd like! You may also be creative: any mythological being that humans in our world tend not to believe n, such as Elves, Genies, or Maids may appear in Gensokyo. To sign up, simply create a character and assign yourself a color that isn't black. I'd prefer you tell me what your character is, their backstories, and any powers they may have. Be creative! But do not go overboard, please. I'm not looking for vastly overpowered beings here!

If you're interested, post here!

Genies
WELL ALL RIGHTY THEN

Mahmoud of the Dust is a bit of an oddity among genies. His appearance is significantly younger than most, although no less impressive, appearing both hardy and athletic. However, rather than grant wishes to people who freed him, he instead took the chance to escape from his last master, taking his chances in the harsh desert. There, he improved his abilities such that he had supernatural control over the weather, a powerful and deadly skill in a place as unforgiving as the desert. He also eventually gained the ability to commune with animals of the desert, although his personality sometimes puts him at odds with said animals. His attitude is a somewhat abrasive one, as he doesn't take kindly to those who lack the ability to help themselves. He proudly wears the lamp he escaped from on his belt, as a token of his own resourcefulness. Of course, since he currently has a master, this means he can't grant wishes to anyone else, not that you'd ever see him offer it.

GOT ANYTHING SMART TO SAY NOW?
