2013 GT season was about getting a feel for the Indy GT scene. I pretty much wanted to get my feet wet and learn and observe. So I paint up and played models that I already had in my collection. Now it's time to try and take the next step. Build a WoC that can compete better versus the better tournament builds. Who knows even challenge for a top 10 spot? Last year I went 3-1-1 at the Crossroads GT & DaBoyz GT. My lists lacked the speed needed to handle the better MSU lists. Some where able to run circles around my slow moving Warrior list. With that said, I also had some bright spots. The Scyla list was very out of the box and caused some opponents problems. So I leaned a lot from the Crossroads & DaBoyz experience. Now I hope to take those lessons learned and make a better mouse trap for 2014. The comp restrictions against Warriors are pretty harsh, making Crossroads GT a challenge to any WoC player. WoC restrictions: A] 0-1 Hellcannon B] 3rd Eye of Tz not allowed on a character with a 3+ ward C] 0-3 Flying units allowed in the army D] 0-3 Core Chariots E] Daemon Prince can take max 3 of the following: Soul Feeder/2+ armor save or better/Mark of Nurgle/Daemonic Flight/Magic Level 3 or higher F] Max 6 SkullCrushers G] 0-3 of the following: Daemon Prince/Chimera/Skullcrusher Units The key for me building a better mouse trap: A] need more speed & maneuverability B] improve magic phase C] force opponent to fight my battle plan, not fight on there terms D] know and understand the top tournament builds, how they work and how to counter them E] take advantage by causing MIS-MATCHES with your build by making a HARD counter yourself My list: Scyla [General]... 105 pts Sorcerer Lord Lv4 [Lore of Death] w/ Chaos Familiar & Folding Fortress Tz Exalted Herd [BSB] w/ Daemonic Mount, Barding, Tails of Preservation, Charm Shield & GW ... 251 pts Sorcerer Lv1 [Death] w/ Dispel Scroll ... 135 pts Sorcerer Lv1 [Fire] w/ Scull of Katam & Iron Curse Icon ... 130 pts 24 Khorne Warriors w/ SB, Musc, Shields, Halberds & Banner of Eternal Flame ... 510 pts 5 Slaanesh Horsemen w/ Musc, LA, Flails & Throwing Axe ... 110 pts 5 Slaanesh Horsemen w/ Musc, LA, Flails & Throwing Axe ... 110 pts 1 Chimera w/ Reg & Flaming Breath ... 275 pts 1 Chimera w/ Reg & Flaming Breath ... 275 pts 1 Hellcannon ... 210 pts Total: 2,496 pts Some lists at last year Crossroads GT, did not have the tools in them. To make a real threat against a unit inside a building. If my opponent can not assault a building? He/She could be in big trouble fast. [that's my hard counter people] Not only that, but my Khorne Warriors have 3A each, at S5 and Flaming Weapons that let me re-roll failed wounds. [nasty] If my opponent tries to play the long range game? That's ok. He better not get too close to any board edge? Or Doom & Darkness followed up with 48" 3D6 Fireball or shot from the Hellcannon just might spell trouble. Thoughts and feedback always welcome... |

Folding fortress is allowed? Ha. Awesome. How do you plan to keep scyla alive in this army? And how is he going to keep the Chimeras in order? Depending on how you deploy, my first thought is that you've set you opponent up to dismantle your army in two parts. First the everything else, and then the unit in the building. If the army can't beat the unit in the building, then shooting/magicking/death sniping it and the characters would seem like a highly effective way of getting a good sized win against this list. My fear for you is that splitting your army into two parts is going to hurt, without enough ranged damage to force the enemy to come to you. There's plenty of armies out there that are going to out shoot you, and then what? In principle the I like the idea. I'm just sceptical. |

RasputinIII: 1st: Scyla will be in the Khorne Warrior unit. [yes, he allowed in the unit] Giving off 3+MR and LD10 to the unit. We can then see, who can play the Death snipe game better? [me or my opponent] 2nd: If my opponent wants to chase Fast Cav & Flying 20" monster? Be my guest and best of luck in cornering them. |

I didn't think of that. Inside the unit you have a pheominally difficult to shift unit that's very hard to get pts from. What do you intend to do with the chimeras? Outside of 12" of the building they are vulnerable, especially with all the easy to kill marauder units. |

God that's nasty. Fortress should be banned in every tournament. The only weak point I can see is that your wizards have "only" a 4++ protection against death. Also, how are you going to play the bsb? He can't join the warriors or enter the building mounted, and it should be a bit risky outside all alone, lacking the mobility of chimeras. LA on horsemen make them lose fast cavalry (silly rule). Finally, I would save points around to upgrade the two sorcerors to tzeench level2 both. If you want to play the ranged war, I feel like gateway is a must have, and better than another spirit leech. Also, treason is another must-dispel with an hellcannon on the field. If you want to keep the two spirit leech, then I suggest at least to try changing the fire mage to a tzeench lvl2 with familiar. |

The SL needs no mark so he can join the warriors, go in the house and cast. With Scyla in there he gets a 2++ vs death snipes. It's a very well thought out unit that. |

MarkM: Yes, he can. Scyla does lose the unbreakable ability. [while in the unit] DarkSchneider: Buildings are a huge part of the game of Warhammer. So Folding Fortress should not be banned in my honest opinion. Some people take nothing in there build to assault a building? Perfect example is our own net list. So the Folding Fortress adds a whole new dimension to counter certain top builds. Not going to try and fit in the Lore of Tzeentch, I have been thinking about running two Lv1 Fire Wizards. 48" range and 3D6 hits can be pretty nasty. Your right about the LA, so I will drop it or just add shields. I can not upgrade to Lv2's, can not go over 625 points limit for Hero's. |

That fireball goes off on 18+. On 5 dice it's only an average result. Is it worth it? The tzeench level 2 with familiar is way better. |

DarkSchneider: 1. Why would I lose out on the Khorne Warriors and there 30A at S5? They might be one of the best unit in the game at holding a building? 2. Why would I take a spell away from my Lv4, who is casting from the best spell lore in all of Warhammer? [Death] 3. Why gamble at trying to get the 1-2 good Tzeentch spells? [Gateway & Treason] 50% of the time, I will not get them. I prefer the sure thing, over the gamble any day. 4. Fireball goes off on casting cost of 5, 10 or 18. |
