Just wanted to set up a comparison between Games Workshop and Avatars of War. Avatars of War seems to be significantly cheaper, but at the same time they are not legal at some/many tournaments. GW in my opinion also has a far superior website (AoW always seems disorganized and could use better photography). But with all that aside, and strictly from a miniature standpoint, which company produces better looking models? What are some of your favorites? Can you list any direct model-to-model comparisons that demonstrate your view point? |

GW hands down! Not the older sculpts, but looking at the latest releases in REAL plastic, AoW just don't cut it. They do manufacture a lot of great looking models but I would rather see them do their own thing than just copy what GW do. Also, AoW does not do bigger stuff or all in one box choice. |

What do you mean by GW doing stuff in "real plastic" as opposed to AoW? Does AoW not do plastic or is it some sort of finecast like compound? I only have a single AoW model at the moment and it is metal so I am quite clueless when it comes to the quality of their plastic. |

Personally, I don't find either of the company's designs better than the other. Each are good for their own reasons. |

Sculpts aside, how does the quality of the materials they use compare? For example is there a difference in the quality of the plastic GW and AoW use? I'm not a fan of GW's finecast, not sure if AoW uses resin at all. I know they still have some metal models, which I personally prefer. |

I think each has it's pros and cons, the new AoW witch elves look very good for the price in comparison, however neither companies witch are a patch on raging heroes models. AoW do some nice character models, I think mixing models how you like is the best way to get what you want. When I redo my Dark elves I think it will be a mix of gamezone and AoW (core), GW (special) and GW rare. I think for my cold one knights I will be combining Gamezone mounts with GW riders. |

GW does not do new models in finecast. The last three army releases IIRC has been without any finecast models. AoW only had their slayers done in plastic, the other is a resin variation much like what PP sell. |

I think AoW has some cool looking stuff for a decent price. I rock a nurgle army so their stuff appeals to me. But I do like GW stuff, what I would like to do is make my Champs with other companies mini's |

AoW models are quite nice, but they're not without problem. For starters there's the metal model issue, I like conversions and I hate converting metal models - more trouble than it's usually worth. Additionally they've started making very static poses, the Corrupters of Apocalypse for example have their heads attached to their bodies which limits variation. Then there's the availability issue, they just don't have the production capabilities to keep up. 2 months later I'm still waiting on an order of Corrupters to use for my unit of Chosen. The models look great, but there's a few issues. GW on the other hand is quickly available, often with more potential variation, and at a higher price. I use AoW and similar boutique manufacturers stuff for special things like characters (Chaos Dwarf Hero for example). |

They each have great models and not so great models. Can't say that one is strictly better than the other. |

AOW has some really nice stuff but even their prices aren't fantastic. Mt major issue with them is the ordering and production probes. I would have bought their chaos warriors last year but they were all out of stock for months. |

Can anyone who owns any AoW "plastic" models comment on this? Is it really sub par in comparison to GW plastics? |
