Hi, I just wanted to know if you actually have to show which mark a demon prince has. Can I use one demon prince using it for different marks depending on the game, or do you actually have to convert it to a specific god. Thanks.

Depends on your gameing environment. I generally explain equipment/special rules of my units while i place them on the table. I don't say what magic items or gifts they have. This is being polite.
WYSIWYG systems are the proper way imo so yes you should paint it a certain way but in the end it is totally up to you what scheme you use. Some people may get annoyed if you paint your whole army green but they are infact all Khorne troops with Tzeentch markings...
For your dp if you just want to change marks between games paint it a neutral colour like black.

I personally go for neutral or undivided color schemes because I like the freedom. I was never terribly keen on the unspoken requirement to paint a model a certain way to represent a mark. “It’s MoT but it isn’t blue? Hmmm.” Yeah no thanks. It IS art after all.

If you painted the DP a shade of red or blue etc because you like the color and it is what you want…then I’d say go for it. When I play unfamiliar people, I keep little scraps of old business cards with the mark written on it handy. If they expressed any confusion regarding marks, then I can plop it down near the unit when they are deployed. At least this way, they are clearly advertised.

What’s worse? Playing against a gray DP that hasn’t been painted and can have any mark – or- playing against a pink DP who happens to have MoN? To each his own I suppose, but I would never raise a fuss.

I agree with Plainview; you should paint your daemon prince whatever colour you like. The colours associated with the four different chaos gods are merely fluff. There is no rule that states that the models have to be painted a specific colour if it bears a specific mark. Part of this hobby is painting, so you shouldn't feel forced into choosing a colour scheme that you don't like. If any opponent challenges you, ask them to show you the rule that forces you to paint a marked unit a certain way!

+1

I started this way too. But being a maniac when it comes to models (have way more than I should), I have started adding 1 of each flavor. Well, now that I think of it, 2 of each flavor, flying and not. But nobody ever complained when my [looks like Khorne] DP was used as a MoN or MoS guy. Use what you got, and as time, money, and modeling opportunities strike your fancy (or not), you can add more models to your collection.

My main reason for collecting more than one is that I am a conversion fiend, and the DP is a great subject matter. And having spare models for Dark Ascension is as good an excuse as any to have more of them than you could possibly actually need.

My Daemon Price is modeled with all the 40K components instead of the regular fantasy (I claim because of the backstory I made for him but really I just prefer the look). WYSIWYG is only relevant to war gear as far as I am concerned, with that said I guess an upgrade like Daemon of Khorne could be considered as such but I have yet to find people this stingy. I mean how is everyone supposed to afford having at least 4 different Daemon Princes painted for each mark? That's just absurd. After talking in circles there, I'll finish with this, paint him how you want him to be painted. If someone really has a problem with it, cut your index finger and start drawing a pentagram on the walls. The won't debate ANYTHING with you after that (and hopefully don't try to send you to the looney bin...)
