Painting 'dirty' metal/armor

Seeing as I'm keeping to a Nurgle theme, I want to paint my warriors' armor in a tarnished, oily metal. I'll throw some rust here and there, but don't want to overdo that - Chaos armor changes in shape and appearance to reflect the wearer and his patron, and although rust does symbolize decay and age, I'd rather my warriors' armor have a bit more splendor. It'll be shiny and metallic, but also a bit aged, and with the residue from many battles.

The illustration in the link below is a good idea of what I want to shoot for. The armor's clearly seen better days, and Nurgle's patronage has taken form, yet it's still intact and functional, as the mysterious metal used to make suits of Chaos armor should be.

I'm using typhus corrosion and drybrush ryza rust over leadbelcher. I don't have any pictures up yet, but it is coming out nicely. If you dont want the orange rust, you could stand pat over the wash and/or drybush with a metallic.

For a tarnished metal effect I use...

black undercoat
tin bitz
nuln oil/badab black
drybrush boltgun metal

It does look a bit undivided imo but it could work for nurgle.

I've found it! This is what I want to achieve. However, the poster never said what they used besides "inks, brown colours and metallics."

You just haveto stain it with wash or very dilute paint, let it dry then another layer, an so on, you should pile up more layeres in the shaded areas. It takes a lot of layers...
