This seems very conniving and scheming. I would expect it of the rat-folk but not from one of the leaders of the great northmen. Boo.

If I were to see this on table, I'd think my opponent a wet lettuce but would let him/her play it but I wouldn't want to play him/her again.
I look at my opponent a little strange, then play the game. To me it's not that big of a difference maker. It's not going to make or break the game for me or my opponent. If he is a good sport and fun to play against? I be happy to play him again & again. Remember it's a kid game at heart, so just have fun playing the game.

But as many people pointed out, this will look like a big carrot move. I can understand why H4d35 or others might not want to play this opponent again.

I agree there GoC - it is a game that is there to have fun with. Which is why I don't like those that try to get an underhand advantage.

I really want to run a double hellcannon list (need to actually own the cannons) and I would tuck them in two corners and hope to blast away for as long as possible. This is a legit tactic and nasty to face but I play some competitive types who have pasted my fluff armies regularly, however I wouldn't see it as right to try and gain from a model's base size. When I do finally get cannons, I will draw LoS from the cannon itself, not the base.

If you're gonna run a mean list, be sporting at least! Haha! They're only expensive toys for big kids!

Actually, about the use of the Cannons themselves, what is the consensus about putting them in the middle and as close to the enemy as possible? I actually don't mind to get them into close combat, maybe that will 'help' them get there faster :P Problem I see is... Line of Sight to shoot at things.

I ran one cannon at a tourney this weekend. I deployed it in the corner and dared someone to waste the resources to come get it. It did okay nothing great, but it works well as point denial. Usually just tried to target harder hordes to wittel them down, maybe panic a low LD unit (no luck there though). I'll probably continue to run one for awhile, but I think they work better as a distraction and annoyance than anything based on my 7 games.

I didn't put them exactly in the middle but a third to the left to be able to protect the left flank of my anvil with a charge. Worked well. As said above once intercepted a Doomwheel and held forever. A Doomwheel in the flank of my anvil would've probably been REALLY bad for my game. Especially after my anvil was thinned out a lot by that grey seers dreaded 13th (which on the other hand sucked him into warp ;D).

I'm proxying in two cannons this evening and I'm very excited. If they work, I'm going shopping!

I think of the Hellcannon as a shooting anvil. I also keep them somewhat close to the centre of the board, so that they can shoot and charge something that gets close and hold it, while my infantry moves up and flank charges it the turn after.

when I have to advance to get to my opponent, the It is also nice to have the Hellcannon somewhat close to the combat, as it can hold up anything for a turn, and kill a lot of things over time. Especially infantry is nice to munch, but it can hold anything for a turn, unless you are really unlucky.

Also, Learn when to shoot with it, and when not to. Think what the shot will accomplish IF it hits, and then compare that to the chance of hitting it (not that good for stonethrower shooting). If it isn't really worth the chance of misfirering AND wasting the chance to get closer to something you want it to hold up/kill, then move instead.
Keep in mind though, that there might be a good target next turn, so get an overview of what is likely to happeb and consider what you need it to do the most. Shoot something, or hold something up/kill it?

First off, I dont see the problem of seeing a unit since the hellcannon itself has the large target rule. Since its a monster, that means unlike a war machine you need to align to your target a turn ahead of time.
The largest problem i see is the artillery die. Unless you are targeting a big horde unit, 7 on the die is the highest you can go when rolling. I honestly think the giant is one of the best large targets we have.

On to the base size issue, on the GW website for the hellcannon it says the size is 100mmx150mm. If you understand metric references the first number is the height and the second number is the width. So there should be no problems on how to base models if given the correct size using metric system.

So people saying that the hellcannon can be based 150mmx100mm are just trying to milk any rule in their favor, even if it is incorrect.

I've used hellcannons to bog people down before. This allowed me to get a flank charge and win combat with knights.

This is risky though because if someone uses poisoned attacks or can manage to kill the hellcannon I feel it's a waste of points. It really doesn't do A LOT of damage in melee by itself either. I usually see it do 1-2 wounds. It just hardly takes damage.

I'd not take it charging out unless I had to though. I'd use it more as an anvil than a hammer while playing defensively.

My 2 cents.

So your monitor resolution is 1080*1920? I guess not. This isn`t metric, this is GW stuff and GW uses the same 100*150 for a model that faces to the wider side according to the website.

You`re just making stuff up...

This doesn't make sense. 1080 by 1920 is still metric. 1080 pixels high, 1920 pixels wide. I'm not quite sure what he made up.

In regards to your tactic of using a hellcannon to defend the flanks of a unit I agree with this. I very rarely shoot with my hellcannon. I would much rather use it as a monster that pushes up with my units, gives my opponent something else to consider. Let's be honest 210 pts for a hard as nails unbreakable monster is a steal.

The correct screen size is 1920*1080.

Well I'll be damned. Can't argue that.

And now add the fact, that the height of the base is 2mm...
*mind blown*
