Hey hey hey folks,
so first post here in the forum :)

So this Sunday im playing down at the local game store against the Dark Elves, and its a 7500 point game...!!!
Its pretty much every model in my collection, the largest game ive played, and am quite looking forward to it.

As of yet, the only special rule we have is 4D6 for the magic phase

Now i was wondering if anyone here had any advice for going against such a large force?
or advice against dark elves? any hidden Strengths or Weaknesses that i could take advantage off
Which lore of magics would you use?

Furby ;)

You'll have a big enough army I think you could get away with using all the chaos lores if you wanted.

The elves strengths is that they're going first. You'll have to soften them first. I suggest fire for magic missiles in order to snipe hydra or weaken other units before they get to you. Another thing I suggest is AoE magic (Choir/Plague Wind). Try to stay away from Initiative based spells (purple sun/pit of shades) and aim more for str/toughness based spells or spells with a strength value so you can take care of their low toughness (3).

If this is basically your whole army you can't really tailor your list so you'll have to really play into your strengths and his weaknesses.

Thanks for the response.

I was thinking of concentrating, magic wise, on lores of Nurgle Slannesh and Shadow. Im taking one level 4 Slannesh DP, Sayl the Faithless and Archaon for shadow, Festus for Nurgle which leaves me with space for one more Sorc...
Slannesh and Nurgle look like a good combo vs the elves, and shadow could be annoying for him with Archaon possibly jumping location across the board. Ill post up my army list shortly :)

I'd almost suggest the demon prince being nurgle as well just for more close combat survivability. That's the only place he'll be safe. Plus nurgle has some AoE spells that are nice :) ...or at least one lol

Also, nice choice on Sayl the Faithless :) I love him as a hero. I'm trying to find a way to fix mine. I'm missing the top half of his staff and the hand with the skull on it. Someone stepped on it and the pieces got lost. *Insert very angry face*

I`d have a look at lore of tzeentch. Glean magic is really nice with that many wizards against you and the warpflame rule has a high chance to kill some extra elves. And it`s cheap and generates extra dice. Maybe lvl4 LoT, armor of destiny, skull of katam, enchanted shield on disc?

Cannot take Enchanted Shield and Armor of Destiny together. Both are Magic Armor.

Shield is shield and can be equipped with other armor (not shield). Same goes for helmets. Read the rules for magic armor in the BRB.

This is wrong. You can equip only 1 magic item per category. Weapon, Armor, Enchanted Item and Talisman.

As the armor of destiny and enchanted shield are both magical and both considered "armor" this is not a legal selection.

Beniah beat me to it, but going to chime in anyhow, as I do not take kindly to being told to read the rules when I am right :-p . You can use a shield with magic armor, or a magic shield with mundane armor, but since both of them are listed in the "Magic Armor" category, you can never take both on the same character, due to the fact that now character can ever have two of the same category magic item. It is the same reason we are unable to take a dispel scroll and the Arcane Familiar. They occupy the same slot.

You are probably right, the introduction for magic items explicitly states it. I know the "only one part of each category" rule, but I always read the rules on magic armor wrong. They say "Only the most influential characters will be clad in magical armor from top to toe [...] Except where otherwise stated magical armor and shields follow the same rules as mundane ones" and I thought this was the common "there is always an exception to every rule in warhammer" and combining armor and shield would be ok. But rereading both paragraphs paints a different picture, especially with the "these rare exceptions" part in the introduction.

Reading through my army lists, I've never actually used that (would've probably been spotted by my enemy too as I usually play open list), but I guess I gave advice with this in mind more than once.

My apologies for only rereading the part I thought was important and not every part.

Just had a look through the forum, I didn't find an example of me in the first couple of pages search results, BUT:

(you have to search for glittering scales or armor of destiny to get to the right post)
Disclaimer: Knights posts is probably meant right, but not formulated totally clear, so could be wrong too.

And I have rarely found anyone saying anything about combining glittering scales or armor of destiny with enchanted shield or dragonhelm or charmed shield being against the rules. Thumbs up for Vantraxx in Dreichs Thread...which I didn't read before and Tchar'zhul as reply to Kurrilino...way before I joined the forum.

I don't want to argue that I'm right, I just wanted to show, that this is a common misconception, that we should look out for and correct more often.

I hope you're not still arguing that you can use both. It's not right. I had a hard time understanding your position by the way you wrote your post. But, if I read it correctly, you are correct that we need to keep an eye out for people making their lists wrong and using both an enchanted shield and magic armor.

Sorry if this thread got hijacked....

Quote for clarification. And I`m sorry and will stop this topic now. Back to dark elves:

Depending on your other setups (first prioritize your other characters) give the lvl 4 MoT any legal combination that gives max ward save (hopefully 3++rr1) and afterwards max. possible armor save.

Lore of Nurgle for toughness tests, knights for soaking up some of those ASF hits and then hitting back hard, a 2.5++ save tzeentch guy, either a combat monster or magic user.
