It lets the enemy reroll succesfull rolls to wound and improves armor by 1 for 50pts. As most of our characters have T5 and you only have one talisman of preservation (which does the same given you face S5 and aren't MoT), I think this is quite good. If you buff his T with nurgle or give him regen he gets even more durable. Sure our characters are expensive so having too many of them isn't going to happen and a DP needs the blessed shield for that darn cannon ball, but what are your thoughts on this? |

The Trickster's helm is very good. On High T bearers it's fantastic. Plop this on a Hero & Demonic mount and all of a sudden you have someone that REALLY gunks up the combat resolution. Vs s5 or less, this would be a beast. Easy enough to get him to a 1+ armor. I'd say it's very good. It's a way to think outside the wardsave box. Not the most 'ubar!' , but different. I'd run this Ex. Hero. : Mark of Nurgle (I'm a nurgle man myself!) Demonic mount, great weapon, barding Scaly skin So you have a guy that hits like a truck, good armor save, and can stomp/not be stomped with T5. Now for the people who will say "Tzeentch & 3++ is better!!" edit: I ran the Trickster's helm on a Gorebull hero and could only get to a 3+ armor and it was the mvp most games. I'd hate (really love) to see what the Nurgle dude could do. Edited by Blackspine, Jul 29 2014, 06:18 AM.

The issue with it is if you take it on an exalted, your exalted misses out on a ward save. Its a great item though if you have used your talismans elsewhere on other characters. It also doesn't help against weapons or spells that wound automatically and/or don't allow armour saves ie metal magic. The only times I've successfully used it have been in 4,000 point games when I've run extra characters, otherwise I haven't been able to justify the 50 points for the helm versus other items for less. |

I'm trying to think where it won't work. Only Poison attacks come to mind. Anywhere else this won't work? I guess if we arw getting wounded on a 3+ or 2+ it also wouldn't be too good. Funny thing is you could still have it on a hortennse with tal of pres, 3rd eye, barded dm, and double handed weapon... |

Wouldn't it still work against metal magic, they still roll to wound (with our AS being the nimber needed) |

@Vantraxx - it does make them re-roll against spells or items that have a wound roll, but then the character has no saves of any kind after they are hit. Most games you'll face a combination of death sniping or cannons and ward saves are generally the best protection. |

Good point and with a 1+ or 2+ that reroll will not really do much... Personally i am always very cautious with my characters and a ward is always mandatory imo. Now combos with this helm and a ward for lords looks tasty. |

Yeah I've been very tempted to run a lord (any mark) with the helm, ToP, and a GW/halberd. Super hard to wound, good armour and ward save and plenty of fighting ability. If only you could make them stubborn/unbreakable as well and they'd be fantastic. And that tends to be the trade off. You can make a stubborn disco lord (or similar) but then you can't have the helm. If we had access to cheap heroes (like the Empire) it may be different but with the cost for our heroes its hard to balance everthing. Perhaps if you run a hero with the helm in a bus then you could use them to challenge out enemy heroes so your other characters/lord could smash the unit? Not my style - I like to spread points out, but it could work with the right combos. |

What about taking a disc rider hortense in addition to a BSB MoK on DM with the helmet in a SC bus (5+ so he isn't shot by cannons)? |

Even then though, he's only T4. I'd probably rather run the Dawnstone and re-roll failed armor saves than spend 50 points on the helm. |

If he's on a Demonic Mount, then he'll get a LOS (same troop type) and T5. He can't make way, as he won't fit. However in challenges, you can make them come to you. |
