Hey all new poster here,

So I'll jump right into it, a buddy of mine uses a beastmen list that consistantly beats me, he has:

Tooled Beastlord
Beast Banner BSB
LvL 4 usually with Beasts or Death
3 lvl 1s parked around a herdstone
doombull tooled for cc
gorebull
40 Gors with AHW
40 Bestigors
6 or 7 Minos
and all chaff filler

I've had one victory which was a lucky pandemonium hellcannon shot on his Bsb's gor horde but other than that I get beat out.

as to what I have most of the range of models in decent numbers.

Basically I'm looking for your different situations.

Thanks!

He has all of that? How many points do you people play at?

This is a curiously bad matchup for WoC, actually. Spell-spam makes the Puppet a bit less useful than usual, Bestigors slice right through Chaos armor, and Gors beat down Marauders in CC. I should know, because Beastmen's my primary army, and my force looks pretty similar to your opponent's (minus the Minotaurs, those are hard to afford in the 2,500 or so point games I usually play).

The ways you can try and fight it are as follows:
1. Try and get matchups favorable to you - Gors pound Marauders but have trouble against Khorne Halberd Warriors, whereas Bestigors slice right through Warriors but have issues with the numbers Marauders bring to bear. Get the fights that favor you and you'll be in better shape.

2. Stop the Miasma-spam. If he casts Miasma over and over and over again with L1 casters on 2-3 dice each, it should be a relatively easy dispel opportunity for you. Keep that under wraps and you can bring your better stats to bear. I would advise against trying to stuff the Great Bray's spells, because stopping a Wyssan's Wildform or a Savage Beast won't do you much good if your entire unit is at WS1/I1.

3. Hellcannons. They can hold up threats you're not ready to deal with in CC (especially Gors, who'll usually be wounding it on 6's and allowing it an armor save) and the shot is pretty useful, given that one of the things that Beastmen have issues with is Panic (almost no units in the army that are worth taking are Immune to Psychology).

4. Hunt down the Mages. Get some fliers out there and harass the Mages - if you get them away from the Stone, killing them is actually a secondary benefit. Bear in mind that this can be tricky, depending on the size of his Herdstone and how much chaff he has around.

Good luck!

Awesome stuff man! Thanks!

What do you reccomend for flyers? Seeing as the army has two, one of which is the massive point sink chaos dragon. Though would that be decent at all against beasts?

Thanks again,
Uljkar

I recommend an Exalted Hero on a Disc of Tzeentch, actually. It's relatively cheap to upgrade a Hero with it, and if you can give him some sweet armor and Ward saves to boot. Just keep him away from his main blocks and he'll do well.

The Chaos Dragon is just too expensive, I'm afraid. He's already out-numbering you by plenty, bringing a Chaos Dragon will only make that edge bigger.

Hmm seems modelling an exaulted on a disk haha.
Shame the Dragons no good, made a really nice conversion haha, oh well he'll have his day.

Oh and another question for you, have you ever fought against chaos knights? Do they do decently against beasts?

Thanks again man,
Uljkar

Chaos Knights should do all right, depending on the task you set them (5 will work for killing chaff, 10 if you want them as a flanker). Keep them the heck away from Bestigors, though, and think twice before you slam them into somebody's front - Cavalry isn't going to spook big Hordes.

children, please, we are all children of the dark gods here, though petty animals will never match the glory of us, the mighty mortal followers and favoured of the gods !

Exactly! If the Tamurkhan release has shown us anything, it's that we should embrace our secondary followers. You beasts will always have your uses as fodder in our grand armies! Think of the good your deaths will achieve ;-)

I resent that - we actually have a good matchup against you, so maybe you're not so favored, because we can kick your butts. :P

In all seriousness, though, I'm a Chaos man through and through. As long as it's for the glory of the Dark Gods, it doesn't matter who I'm using.

LoL well stated. My old roommate plays Beastmen. We dream of the day when we get to play a team match and combine our forces of Chaos in a mighty horde to stomp the weaklings of the south!
