Lords: Sorc Lord, level 4, MoTz, Disc, Infernal Puppet, charmed Shield, 6+ Ward item, Third Eye of Tz, Blood Curdling Roar Heros: Exhalted Hero, BSB, MoTz, Halberd, Banner of fortitude General: Exhalted Hero, MoTz, Halberd, Book of Secrets, Dispel Scroll Core: 40 Kh Marauders, GWeps, Standard 5 Marauder Horse, MoSl, Javelins, Spears, LArmour, Musician 5 Warhounds 5 Warhounds 14 Warriors, MoKh, Halberds, Standard, Banner of Flame Special: 10 Chosen, MoTz, Halberds, FC, Wailing banner, FotG – Heros here are relying on Divine Greatness from one of the Shrines. 5 Knights Rare: Helcannon 2 Warshrines This list has obvious weaknesses: the Warrior and Chosen units are both on the small side, but it also has a LOT of threats. The flip to that being that (assuming I can get the characters out in time) no one unit is an insurmountable loss. Three decent combat blocks, plus the Knights, plus three redirection units and the Helcannon and Warshrines for support. It has Flaming and Blood Curdling to deal with the specific threats of regen monsters/GGuard bunker and Unkillable Lord respectively. It can bring the pain and get in an opponents face quickly, or prolong and slow the battle as needs be. It also overcomes a key weakness by getting Ldr 9 onto the field (and with a touch of luck from the Warshrines Ldr 10 later in the game). |

You have the makings of a nice MSU list. A couple of suggestions. If I have the disc running around on its own, I would go with a better ward. You can get away with a basic 6+ when on foot, but he would be too easy to deal with out on his own. I just got back from a tournament and every VC player was running multiple wraith characters. While you have knights, I would still get at least one more magic weapon in the mix. These lists are also running the terrorgeist. This beasty is the bane of msu and I would throw every offensive magic spell I had at it as quickly as I could. Drop the knights as far away as possible from the damn thing. It will even take out your Sorcerer with an average scream. Of course the dreaded thirteenth is the other spell you will have to look out for. We talked about it in my thread. I would use the shrines aggressively to force back opposing light units. Other than that, I have no real issues with the list. Oh, 2,400 points? |

Yeah, 2400 we are playing. I don't know much about the Terrorgiest. What do the Infested and Death Shriek do? Luckily there is only one VC player in my league. An easy fix is to swap a Marauder for a magic weapon on the Disc Lord as a back-up against ethreals. I hear what you say about the 6+ ward, but its actually 5+ with Tz and I’m really not sure what I could drop to get the 15 points I need to improve that further. Another fairly straight forward change is dropping the Knights in favour of a Chariot, this also let me beef-out some of the smaller units. But of course that would mean losing the Magic Weps on the Knights. In my league the HElf MSU list is the one I am most worried about – if you read Uluthun (sp?) forums (The HElf ones) what would you do about Seredain’s list? I have gone to a lot of trouble to fit Ldr 9 into my list, but it occurs to me its something of a hang-over from my time playing with defensive blocks, such as a Tz Marauder anvil. This list is much more designed around winning combats, so perhaps Ldr 8 would suffice? |

I will see if I can track down that elf list. Chariots would rock a msu Helf. Excellent observation about the leadership banner. MSU lists are designed to win quickly rather then in a slow grind. Is your general the Lord or the second exalted. If it is the lord, he will be running around and his IP will not benifit from the +1 leadership. Terrorgeist shriek is like the Banshee wail. It is 2d6+number of wounds remaining v. targets leadership. No armor save. it starts with 6 wounds. So 2d6+6 will destroy the knight unit with a roll 7. It flys, so is mobil. Good news is it is not a vamp, and may not march if far away from any vamps. This should slow it down. If you have astrong sense you will not face it, then no problem. If so, go IF gateway on it. It is not that difficult to slay. Hinge |
