Okay, so I don't really like 8th ed that much but I still have to throw around my weight around a bit and represent hard in battle of the clubs (last year it was once again painfully obvious that me and a friend were the ones carrying the team :p) Upcoming tourney is in-club only, seeing as I will have to judge I'd only play along to give the list a good going, I'll scale up/down depending on what the other tournaments offer. Anyway, here it is, some points are top of my head so if they are off by a few points, chalk it up to memory :p
So far it did quite well; people are set in a lawnmower mindset: kill lots of chaff asap, what they don't like and expect to see is over 60 S4 T4 or higher models with 'better stats than you'. Some things for your consideration: Drop the phylactery on the lord, swap the armor of destiny to the BSB and give the lord a charmed shield for cannonball protection? With the Talisman of Preservation, of course ;) The phylactery makes him immune to quite some cheap spells, on the other hand, the shield + talisman increases his protection versus, well, everything else. Reluctant to go for broke on the chosen with the terror standard, they are already pretty hardcore and the last thing I want to do is 1- Bring down stupid comping on my army, or 2- Spending minutes rolling dice and getting sportsmanship-whacked on it. The level 2 firemage is good support, the collar is nice defense and lore of fire is good as a support lore in that it is consistent: with death there is a huge chance of getting bullpoo spells, fire always gives you something to toss around (2d6 S4 hits) and with hellpits and hydras around, is good to have. Absolutely rapestomped a DE list with the 'I touch you and you die, cold one knight + characters + cauldron unit' and went to town against an O&G list with two 100-strong netter tarpits; pandaemonium + hellcannon = goodbye unit and steadfast isn't so hot when you are doing it on 5's, even with BSB rerolls. Still, I am a bit rusty on other armies, seeing as I am playing more Battletech, Infinity and Warmahordes at the moment, so, harsh and tender words, let's hear it.
