So I have had fun running my little Dino list but it is time to go back to my favorite army for tourney play. With the success of running just a skink priest as my only magic and inspired by some fellow COTECers who are running a single L2, I decided to shake up my standard list and flip the L4 for a combat lord.

Lord-MoT, Disc, Shield, Sword of Swift Striking, Tal of End, Dragon Helm, Word of Agony.

This represents the single biggest change to my list. I had three thoughts. The first was Crown v. Other Tricksters Shard. I had great success with the OTS with my Carnasaur lord and did not miss the crown at all. Given my MSU style however, I felt that it would be better to lock units up and pin them. Oh, and I would not have a big thunder stomping lizard to back up the lord to ensure I win combat every round! The next was 2+/3++ and Sword of Might for additional hard hitting goodness or 1+/4++ and more dependable striking power. I went the other but may switch back. I envision this unit getting locked up by large units rather than monsters. The Dragon helm will protect against the Metal Lore, which I am starting to see played by some very good players on the tourney scene. I am trying the word of agony for potential character assassination or just to kill a champ I do not want to be challenged by. BCR is a favorite but I see this guy getting into combat too quick for it to be useful. Stream perhaps?

L2, MoT, Puppet, Necrotic Phylactery, Charmed Shield, Third eye.

The other big change. I decided on the puppet over a scroll more for the threat factor than anything else. I also felt that I may be trying to power spells through given the few spells I know and the lower casting wizard.

BSB, MoT, Steed, Shield, Glaive, Collar of Khorne.

Deciding the Character kit should be changed all around, I decided to try the glaive out. I am tempted to give him the potion of strength but went with a little protection instead. I am also tempted to give the Lord the glaive and potion and make him a monster hunter extraordinaire.

14 Warriors, FC, MoT, Banner of Rage, Halberds, Shields,
23 Mauraders, MoK, Flails, Mus, Std
23 Mauraders, MoK, Flails, Mus
2 x 5 hounds
5 Maurader Cav, LA, Flail, TA, Mus

Standard fare for me on the core. Added an extra dog unit since I had the points.

12 Chosen, FC, Wailing Banner, Favor, Shields,
Chariot
Chariot

Again, my standard build. I reluctantly dropped the trolls in favor of a second chariot since the lord would be running off to glory.

Hellcannon
Warshrine

So there it is. Really just the character kit. I would not mind comments on the characters. Do I make the Lord a monster hunter or flank protector?

Love the idea of the glaive plus potion of strength combo for your lord. Have thought of this myself, but never played it. Would be fun to see how it does. The downside of the potion is that it's use has to be declared at the start of a turn, so if you wanna challenge a character then they'll already know you'll be strength 8 and step aside. But against monsters, bells, plague furnaces etc it would be awesome!

Would be fun, but flank protector probably a better idea for your list.

For my melee Lord I am looking at putting him in a unit of Knights with the Flame banner. The Lord has a Halberd and the Helm of Many Eyes. With a potion of Str he and the unit should be almost guaranteed to kill almost any monster including Regen ones. Granted he loses the benefits of flying, but M7 and swiftstride should be good enough to get him around.

I am going for WoA over Stream because WoA can’t fit on the BSB, and also, because HElf characters with Dragon Armour are immune (2+ ward) to Stream (not sure about whether the DragonHelm also helps against SoC?).

Am I missing something, because I can’t see either the CoCommand or OTS listed on the Lord. I would angle for the OTS personally.

There's something,

if the challenge is accepted, on subsequent turns, the challenge must continue, so, use it on second, to finish him

Sorry, the CoC is on the Lord above.

I have decided to change it up a little and go for a monster hunting build.

Lord, MoT, Disc, shield, Dragon Helm, Tal of Pres, Glaive and Potion of strength.

1+/3++ save makes him extremely durable. Resistant to metal lore and fire. Fast.

I should get a game in tonight and I will report back. Of course, it will be my luck that I pull an opponent with no monsters ^_^

Eh, IMO, if you want him to be a monster hunter, ditch the glaive. Yeah its cool in that it makes the monster strength and toughness 2, but the lord build i run with looks like this.

Tzeentch lord on disk with ogre blade, enchanted shield, talisman of preservation=345

He can beat the crap outta most monsters with strength 7 and bust up heavy cav as well. If he wants wo hunt characters, then he is strength 7 all the time versus strength 8 for one turn.

Imo, if +str is all that the lord is going for then i would just rather take a gw/halberd and save alot of points. Or just sword of might if youre worried about ethereals (str 6 is plenty imo).

I think a disc lord will do fine no matter the desired role as long as he has the 3+ ward save.
