Hi everyone, i really like the idea of converting a big standard bearer as my BSB, and was just wondering if people use them at all, if they are worth the points cost and what banners people use.

cheers!

Aways include a BSB. WoC LD isnt the best even when you take a lord. If its a sorcerer lord its only 8 so a BSB is a must take in my oppinion.

ld 8 is not that bad (compared to other races), but including a bsb is never a bad idea. even in my dwarf army (everyone ld 9) I always try to include one.

It sucks if your warriors get wiped out by being chased after, as it does when your trolls fail stupidity and so on...

BSB's are pretty important, thanks to the fact that we usually walk around at Ld8. A failed test can be crucial.

I beleve that a few character are best for a Chaos army, with that said you need a General. BSB are a safty net, with re-rollong so many tests with a Chaos army. After that I move on to core units, special and rare units.

Really depends on your list, a mono Khorne army needs a BSB more than say Tzeentch list or a list with trolls, main reason is reroll panic tests and high damage output of most units, certainly it will come in handy but it isn't as important as in other armies.

My BSB is mounted on a converted stonehorn and I run Doom Totem when I do take him...

Always run a BSB.
Never give a BSB a magic banner. Well, almost never.

If you give him a magic banner then he can be very easy to kill with only 2 wounds and T4, if on foot the best save he can have is a 3+

You don't want to limit your BSB's access to magic gear - re-rolling all Ld tests within 12" is enough of a benefit. To boot, you can them kit him out to be quite formidable in a fight, as even something as simple as a Halberd, Mark of Tzeentch, and a Talisman of Preservation means that your BSB is swinging 4 times at WS7 S6, and saves all Wounds with a 4+ armor/3+ Ward combo.

ok cool, thanks for the replies guys, he will be on foot, as i have a model to convert.
should i leave him on his own or in a bunker of marauders?

give him decent kit and put him on the front line. He will bring some added killing power and would be wasted sitting in a bunker.
