give him decent kit and put him on the front line. He will bring some added killing power and would be wasted sitting in a bunker.
so in my unit of warriors then ?

Good idea/Bad idea?

BSB + Tzeentch
Collar of Khorne
Book of secrets
Third eye of tzeentch

So he could copy a L4 spell caster but hes only got a 3+AS and a 5+ WS.
Also if he misscasts, thats 220pts + your BSB pretty much popped out of existance

That's the thing - you should never be planning to put more than 3 dice on any one spell to avoid miscasts with a Book of Secrets guy. I've played around with having a Book of Secrets BSB, but I ultimately erred on the side of caution and decided to kit my BSB out to be as hard to kill as possible.

Im a huge fan of:
Book of secrets
Third eye
Scroll

You can free up some space on your other caster this way.

He can be a pretty competent support caster if you get LOS on another caster.

Also, I've found that people have a tendency to think that if you only have a couple characters (like most WoC lists), they will be kitted out to survive with wards etc.
It can make them ignore him in CC with rank and file models, they think that targeting him would be a waste.

The other build I like is pure killing:
MoK
Helm of many eyes
Halberd and whatever else you feel like. 5 ASF S6 attacks is nothing to sneeze at and will take down other heroes a lot of the time.

*edit* Also I agree, don't bunker him. For a hero Exalteds are awsome in CC, use them.

Yeah, bunkering an Exalted Hero is a gigantic waste - you pay out the nose for him to be a combat monstrosity, you should use him as such. I wouldn't step outside without a big Ward save though - 4+ is the lowest I'd want.

what i was thinking of now was to have my usb in my unit of at least 24 warriors on 1 half of my deployment and then my general on the other side (prob on demonic mount or barded steed) and maybe in my knight unit? that way i cover all my deployment with ld re rolls if needed.
what u guys reckon about that???

I reckon that your entire main battleline should ideally be covered by both the Inspiring Presence and Hold Your Ground. :) Marauders especially need the LD boost and the re-rolls.

Inspiring Presence is the General's 12" Ld bubble, Hold Your Ground is the 12" BSB re-roll bubble. Marauders like being in both of them at the same time whenever possible.

So that they get LD8 or ideally 9, and re-rolls to LD. Wich helps them to stick better in combat, see? ;)

I'm always angsty about lone heroes. I wouldn't put him in anything that isn't going to be in the thick of things turn 2...but alone...I dunno, that's just bad juju to me.

Why does a monokhorne themed army list need a BSB so badly? I'm assuming because we need the rerolls for restraining? Khorne doesn't flee and ideally wont be losing combat (since that's a waste of frenzy).

Would a BSB still be helpful in a more mobile khorne army? I was thinking about having a bsb with some warriors next to some chosen in the center with knights and chariots on the flanks, maybe a monster or two.

Like any other army, I'd make my BSB have no magic banner but give him defensive gear? Or is the doom totem a worthy investment?

Yep, it's for restraining pursuit. Frenzy can be exploited badly enough without your guys attempting charges you can only make on an 11+. And the general rule is that unless you have some other way of protecting your BSB (like getting Divine Greatness on him while he's in a unit thanks to a Warshrine), you buy him protective gear instead of a magic banner.
