I have always wondered as to whether the DE are loyal to Chaos or not, as the sources I've found always contridict each other. Thanks in advance. |

No, most of them are self-serving and far too careful with their soul to turn to Chaos. They frequently ward off Chaos invasions from the north. There are a few who are Chaos Worshippers though, like the Cult of Pleasure wich Morathi is the head of. They worship Slaanesh. There is a WD armylist for them, even. (See my newly posted topic in the Chaos section.) :) Theo |

Yeah, Malekith in particular does not like Chaos, as his father died fighting Chaos. There is an undertone that Dark Elves and Chaos are somehow militarily allied (mostly because of the Forces of Destruction thing and the teamplay rules.) If there's any fluff basis to this, it's just that Dark Elves silently agree to not march north into Chaos territory...but that doesn't stop us from marching south into Naggarond, which we do! Either that or, they just hate High Elves more than they do us...probably the latter. |

The Dark Elves certainly invoke the power of Slaanesh. Malekith used Morathi's Cult of Pleasure to take out political opponents in Ulthuan and summoned a Keeper of Secrets to hunt the Everqueen during one of his invasions. I can't remember which, but in earlier editions (I think 4th?) his shield bore the rune of Slaanesh. |

Yeah, they definitely have a Slaaneshi undercurrent to them. I think they're in the same boat as the Beastmen these days, though, where all the mentions that tie them to Chaos in the fluff won't necessarily find their way to the tabletop rules. Let's also not discard the fact that Chaos factions squabble with each other on a fairly regular basis - the Beastmen/Chaos Warriors relationship isn't exactly a hug-it-out-let's-be-friends scenario.
