Lately my gaming group has noticed that the one special character in my army book to never really see any field time has been Sigvald. On top of this I was just reading through the big thread on using a Chaos Lord and I'll admit, I do enjoy busting out my disc lord every now and again. So here is my question, is this guys worth his points as a dismounted close combat lord? ASF, Ld10? 1+/4++regen? Yeah ok, he is expensive as hell but, is he worth it? I've got a 3K game coming up... |

he is quite good. He hits hard, he is hard to kill (though watch out for a killing blow that will just tear throught the armour and rgen) he can make quite a deathstar. Pop him in a fat unit of 18+ warriors, or a unit of chosen, and th enemy will be very hard pressed to damage them. Also, his ignore terrain rule is awesome. Two question marks though. First, at 4" movement, most enemies will avoid him. And also, at 425p he is very expensive. A normal lord on foot kitted out will certainly cost much less and be almost as good. |

Selling point #1 for Sigvald is the fact that he's Stubborn (and thus passes that on to the unit). Between that, his Ld10, his Stupidity (which makes the unit Immune to Psychology), and his 1+ armor/Regeneration combo, he's definitely bringing a lot to the table. I would consider him a solid choice, though he struggles a bit against tin cans or monsters, thanks to swinging only at S5. And needless to say, keep him the heck away from anything that has Killing Blow.

Humm, yes I can see how he could certainly be useful. I really want to give him a shot but my next opponent is Skaven and I think that is a terrible match for his abilities. For 425 pts I want some magic and more bodies. I don't see myself needing stubborn, or ld10, or ASF etc. Maybe against some OnG, or Lizzarmen or something. Maybe elves or empire or something so his S5 looks better vs their T3. Who would this guy be best against? |

Elves and Ogres, mostly. Elves have T3 almost across the board, and Ogres will be very annoyed at you bombarding them with ASF attacks against their rather crappy armor (not to mention ItP and Stubborn will keep you in fights even after they smash into you and kick your behind on T1, which they will if they get the charge, and we don't have many ways to stop them from getting it). |

I've had very little experience outside of Dark Elves, which is my primary opponent's primary army. He is very, very good against Elves. I'm especially fond of putting him in a Warrior, Halberd, MoK unit (5x5) and crashing them through unit after unit of witch elves (he has a thing for Crone for obvious reasons.) If I'm feeling lucky, I'll switch out the Halberds for extra hand weapons and take a Death Sorc. Lord and debuff them to T2 first. It's especially satisfying to march them THROUGH a castle wall into a flank or rear. Oh, it's wonderful... I wouldn't take him against a horde army like Skaven or Goblins...Orcs is a fence sitter, I'd probably opt for a brand-x Lord with some toys over Sigvald. With hordes, it seems like, as you said, his talents would be wasted. |

That's what changes him the most. The fact he is only really going to tie up an enemy character not kill him without some serious augments. He is a lord level supporter who benefits his unit more than is out to do damage. |
