Hello all I was using a potion of strength a few days ago and my oponent said i couldnt use it as "i didnt declare it at the begining of my turn" So acording to the rules you have to declare to use it before the movement phase. So you could use it, fail your charge and basicly waste the potion. I was curious how everyone uses them on here, do you stick religiously to that or do you just declare when you get down to the combat? |

The rule on when they must be used is the biggest reason people don't take the potions. Certainly they don't become super awesomely powerful if activated at any time, but they are much much better that way. As written, I would not take the items. Therefore I would enforce the written timing on anyone I play. |

I have been using it lately and been using strict RAW in its employment. You certainly have to take the declaration in to consideration when using. I have mine on a disc lord and have found: 1. Charge something that is ItP. 2. When the charge range is short, go ahead and delcare its use. If he declares a flee, you can hopefully run the beast down or at the very least, that beast is now out of position. 3. If a long charge, I will not declare its usage, rather make the charge, stick in combat, and declare the usage at the start of my opponents phase while alredy engaged. Hinge |

Yes, that's how the rule is. The explicit condition for getting the bonus is declaring that you drink the potion at the beginning of your turn. If you start moving a unit and say "Wait, forgot to drink the potion!" everyone should be fine with it, but you can't begin fighting a combat and say "I'll use my potion." Theo |

just a reminder that you can activate the pot at the beginning of either player phase. This can make it dangerous to charge the character tht has it if you are not confident of breaking/killing him in one go. Hinge |

yep. I play it up when an opponent is contemplating a charge I really do not want to take. :P "Are you sure you want to make that charge? If you don't kill the lord, I will pop the St pot and slay your uber creature of death!" Has not worked yet but who knows. Hinge |

Hinge, why not put it the other way round? "I pop the potion. If you charge, I'm at +3St this turn. If you wait for my charge next turn, the pot will have run out by then..." Considering it could either restrain your opponent from making said charge you don't want to take or turn it to your advantage, I don't think using the item would really be considered a waste... |

I actually used that strategy last night. |
