hi all,
what would you guys take and why in 2000pts?

has been on my mind for a while whether to take a chaos lord and maybe 2 lvl 2s
or just a level 3/4 sorcerer lord and a bsb?

thanks

Most people argue a Sorcerer Lord is better, I agree with them. I use a Chaos Lord (Khorne Lord, in fact) because I am playing a monokhorne list and do not use magic. Most people seem to be fond of a lvl 4 wizard w/ Lore of Death.

If your looking for effectiveness, go with at least a lvl 4. Not to say that a lord and lvl 2 isn't effective.
Chaos Lords are so powerful and diverse, you can really make it do anything you want it to, it can even cast spells (yay).

To answer your actual question...

In 2000pts I would take a Chaos Lord with MoK, Word of Agony, Talisman of Preservation, Charmed Shield, and Chaos Runesword. He is 365pts. I would mount him on something, probably a barded steed for 2k.

This guy is amazing, Rothgar introduced me to him =]. He has a 1+ armour save and a 4+ ward save. He has 7 s6 attacks which will tear through anything from heavy infantry to monsters or characters. He has D6 s4 auto hits w/ no saves against 1 model, once in the game (I'd save it for an enemy lord). His WS9 means most enemy models will need 5s to hit him.

Give him MoT and he loses an attack but has a 3+ ward. This is better, but Tzeentch is a panzy =P

Magic augments are so key this edition I would think unless your character is a real blender (Daemon Sword, ASF Helm level) the level 4 is pretty important. Dispelling spells especially.

You can manage with a single L2 and a defensive arcane item. It is not easy and you have to really be selective on what spell in a turn you choose to dispell. Our ability to take third eye really helps on the offensive end.

Usually I take a Sorcerer Lord and a BSB (Lore choice is pretty up for grabs right now between Death, Heavens, and Shadows - I favor the latter, but I've seen successful lists with either of the 3), myself. I'd love to have a Chaos Lord as well, but those guys get really expensive really fast. I definitely have one at 3000 or above, though.
