ok im sick of having my khorne warriors/marauders being baited out of position.

failed frenzy checks. damn eagles dropping in front of them at angles that lead them miles out of position when i over charge. little groups of harpies, dogs, razorgors, sabre tusks.

little cheap things that die in one turn and you need to charge because you cant wheel around.

ive tried dogs in front but they always die to some kind of shooting. then pop!! eagle!! off you go over there

im really thinking slaanesh is not such a bad idea. you cant loose itp, its 20 points cheaper generally.

what am i missing how do people use their khorne troops effectivly.

Are we talking mono-Khorne? In that case, give the Lord's unit the Banner of Discipline and make sure to take a BSB. :) LD10 Re-rollable won't fail much, but frenzy would be totally OP if it didn't come with the chance of charging ahead whether you want it or not, just something we have to live with.

wow, i really thought people "had a plan" when it came to controlling frenzy.

its not so much the frenzy check thats a problem i normally run them inside the bsb or generals bubble. no, its forced to overrun, must pursue that is the problem.

im going to try dropping the mark of khorne for slaanesh, give them extra hand weapons and be ready to cast either withering on the enemy or mindrazor on my warriors. this is to replace khorne with halberds. wondering if people had a thought on this.

If your blocks are deep enough, you can still hold off a flank charge, then combat reform and wreck the enemy. Swordmasters in the flank will paste you, but characters can take them down. You also need more non-frenzied lighter support units to block the flank charge or take out the bait unit first. Like Marauder horsemen. Direct damage magic helps too.

I find 10 flail marauders work well as a diverting unit

50pts for something with 10 wounds, 10 attacks at WS4, ST5.

Put in front of your big hordes they prevent them from being able to charge and divert the diverters....and almost always kill the piddely little crud

If the problem is having the unit off on it's own and then having to overrun after taking out a nice big unit - well, there's not much you can do about that as you HAVE to overrun and/or pursue. Even if you had another unit in support, your block of big nasty has to go as well - that is, unfortunately, just part of being Frenzied.

If you're worried about counter charges after you overrun, be sure to have another unit close by who can counter charge as well. I like to have a chariot handy as some people will think twice about taking a charging chaos chariot in the flank since they won't get the supporting attacks.

The only downside of them is there a little too good and sometimes hold up your own forces behind.

...They dont have the common decency to just bloody die when told to

Be careful about warhounds that way as well. If warhounds are near the general and BSB, they sometimes hold against light enemy units when you expect them to die. The last warhound on a re-rollable 6 passes a lot.
