I have recently been playing a bunch of 1k games and will be playing a tournament this Sunday at that points value. At larger points I am comfortable with the effectiveness and use of most units. Can anyone proffer some specific advice on this size game. Is there going to be much of a chaff war I need to worry about winning, or should I just try and concentrate my efforts on winning the main fights? As I currently see it I am left with a choice between: Trolls (though not really because of the problems regarding stupidity). Light Cav – have the most utility with Fast Cav rules, shooting etc Chariot – Will hit the hardest in melee but vulnerable to cannons and not as mobile as the other options Warshrine – Hardest to kill but probably the least utility, although may be very useful in the larger main fights. Come on guys, need your input here. Also, do you think I need to bring Fire in a game this size? |

I think light cav are your best option. We have the best core infantry in the game - even if it is pricey - so your 250 points should easily pay for themselves. Fast cav will give you the versatility to bait frenzied units, or go after the warmachines that can do us some serious damage. Warshrine is too expensive for what it does in this small game - chosen are fine, but a shrine just for the extra buff just isn't worth it. Be careful with spending points on characters. 2 heroes or a single lord is likely all you'll be able to squeeze in and still get the most out of them. Chariot's seem like another viable option - mobile enough and strong enough to give you a boost whereever you need it, or just to hold up monsters. Fire....lore or banner? I think the lore is under-rated, and is a good all-rounder to have, but Tzeentch is still probably better(esp with the +1 to cast). I don't know whether you'll need flaming attacks though. It depends on whether or not you can get an Abomination or Hydra into a 1000pt list. If its possible, then yes, you definitely need flaming attacks. |

I think knowing what the rest of your list is will make it easier to advise you on what is the best option out of the ones you currently have listed there but I'll list my thoughts on your questions. I'm not very sure you'll face a ton of chaff at 1 k points but I think that will really depend on the army so having some way to get rid of them via magic or your own chaff units would be a good idea. I would say fire is the more useful lore for lower point level games because it can wipe out chaff units and strip ranks off enemy units a bit easier and is also lower casting for some of the stuff while giving you some range ability. Trolls are fine hard hitting units if you can stop them going stupid on you constantly but if you have other units that are just as fast and can hit hard I'm not sure you'll need trolls. Light cav is very useful to eliminate other chaff units, to hunt down war machines, serve as redirectors, screens, extra combat units in the flank or rear, or to chase or run down fleeing units. Chariots while a bit slower are useful in the fact that they can at least pivot on the spot and basically charge off in a completely different direction then what someone might expect and their impact hits are nice to have against anything with ASF plus the two warriors on top can help add kills to a combat after the impact hits. Warshrine is actually not too bad of a tarpitting unit at 1 k points because of it's t6 and 4 wounds with a 4 plus armor and 4 plus ward then it has ld 8 so hopefully it should stick around in combat and also has 5 s4 attacks at init 5 so if you want to hold something up it should work pretty nicely for that until you can get something else into the fight as well. |

How did it go conjoy? I played a double 2 x 800 tournament this weekend and my lvl 1 nurgle with feedback scroll kicked some magician ass! |
