Sethomar looked out at the small band of ratmen in the distance. He had been leading his patrol in search of them for almost a day now, and night was falling on Krontathia now. Of course, the land of the Warlock King was always dark as night. He saw that the Skaven had changed their direction now, and were heading towards Sethomar! “This is perfect,” he thought. “By dying now I will be spared the tedious task of hunting them!” He looked outwards and examined the warband. He saw two large skaven fighters, a larger one leading a better-armoured unit. Swarms of rats followed them, and a rat with a whip led a large rat ogre. Finally, two of the ratmen carried a strange machine with many tubes at the end. Sethomar lined up his forces with a wave of his arm, and the battle was about to begin. 500 point warband battle Vampire Counts list: Sethomar (Necromancer) Cloak of Mist and Shadows Level 2 wizard 5 Skeletons 3 Dire Wolves 4 Spirit Host Swarms Lady Serena (Banshee) Skaven List: (from memory) Chieftain Skavenbrew 30 Clanrats with attached Ratling gun 30 Clanrat Slaves 2 rat swarms Rat Ogre and Packmaster As the Skaven approached, Sethomar advanced. The dire wolves ran forward on the left flank, on the side of the rat ogre. Lady Serena and the spirit hosts glided forward, the ground not hindering them, while Sethomar and his skeleton bodyguard took a few steps forward. Muttering the words to the Invocation of Nehek spell, three pools of purple-grey appeared and three skeletons crawled form the vaults of Krontathia to fight. The Skaven packmaster whipped his rat ogre and it began lumbering forward at Lady Serena. It stopped short however, confused by the shades floating around her. The chieftain drank and shared the Skavenbrew and the clanrats began to enter a frenzy, and began to move forward towards the spirit hosts and the slaves moved forward too. This left the dire wolves in sight of the ratling gun, which opened fire on the undead hounds and tore them apart. The gun barrels smoking, the crew had grins of excitement and relief. At the same time the horde of rats advanced on the left flank. Cursing at the loss of the wolves, Sethomar pointed his finger and the spirit hosts charged the front of the clanrats and Lady Serena glided behind the rat ogre. Again chanting the Invocation of Nehek, nine more skeletons emerged from the Krontathian vaults. Lady Serena let out a ghostly yell at the rat ogre but seemed to have no effect. The spirit hosts killed two clanrats as the frenzied Skaven tried to hit them, but with their numbers showing, the spirit host lost two wounds. The rat ogre turned and charged the spirit host in the rear, while the slaves advanced at a slight angle, able to see the spirit host. In combat, a couple more clanrats died but the spirit host lost another two wounds, finishing off a base. Deciding that his bodyguard’s numbers were sufficient, Sethomar marched his unit towards the slaves. Lady Serena floated to a spot facing the ratling gun and the clanrat’s rear, her yell having a much greater effect on the crew of the gun. The Skaven held their ears and screamed, soon dying with horrified looks on their faces. Sethomar casted the Vanhels Dance Macabre spell and his skeletons charged towards the skaven slaves’ flank. The cowardly ratmen fled from the undead and the skeletons moved up and took their spot. In combat several more clanrats died and the spirit host took another wound. The slaves failed to rally, almost fleeing the battlefield. Again, more clanrats were killed by the spirit host and two more wounds were taken. The Skaven Chieftain, while busy fending off the spirit hosts showed his displeasure at the cowardly slaves. Sethomar wheeled his unit and faced the open flank of the clanrats. Chanting the words to the Vanhels Dance Macabre again, the skeletons and Lady Serena charged the frenzied rats. A powerful yell from Lady Serena killed off almost two ranks of the ratmen while the skeletons and spirit hosts killed more off. The Skaven chieftain struck back at Sethomar but his protective cloak made him impossible to hurt, just like the spirit hosts. In his anger at that, he killed a skeleton. However, the clanrats ended their frenzy and could see that they were outnumbered now, and the fear emanating from the undead was no comfort. Breaking and running, the rat ogre and clanrats fled, only to be run down by the skeletons and spirit hosts. As the slaves escaped the battlefield, the spirit hosts and Lady Serena chased after them. The rat swarms, which had done nothing all battle spread in every direction and a grin reached Sethomars face. The Warlock King would be pleased. End Result: Vampire Counts Massacre! |

Well my warband was almost entirely ethereal. So yes, it was an easy win. The only reason I made the report was because EoM wanted one back when I posted the army list before christmas. |

Sounds like a good battle. Even if I did belive when I read what the two warbands consisted off that you were going to get overrun. |

Yes, it was a massacre. He only scored 30 victory points and I wiped out all but the rat swarms. I'll put that at the end. |

you didn't include that I could have beaten you easily, if I knew poisoned atatcks and ratling guns were magical (like I TOLD you I was positive of, but forgot where it was in the codex, and you doubted me), so dont go trying to make it sound like I sucked, but nice fluff! By the way, this was my list Chieftan Great weapon skavenbrew (got the poison thing) In clanrats unit 30 clanrats claw leader ratling gun 30 clanrat slaves 2 rat swarms Plague Rats Maybe you can make another one about another game (where I dont screw up my warband rules!) |

You need to learn the expression "History is written by the Victors" :D You always seem so angry at my posts and it's annoying. I do plan on writing some more batreps, hopefully a 7750 point game (unlikely to be soon). Also fluff to look forward to: Some fluff for my DE (either to be in animosity or LoA, probably animosity), more on my VC, and also a story with Pustal and Slak'Nar. |

oh, I wasn't angry, its one of those types of posts which can be taken as angry or passive. Very few of my posts are actually angry though, so sorry about that. But being written by the victors doesn't really apply there, since it had nothing to do with a rules problem :P |

Skavenbrew don´t make a unit to gain poisoned attacks, either Frenzy or hatred (or both of them) so no poisoned attacks able to hurt etheral units (besides it´s only the poisoned attacks from Assassins & gutter runners that counts as magical). But the Ratling gun can indeed hurt etheral creatures (which was the only thing you had able to deal with etheral creatures). Still the battle might have looked like a whole different story if you knew it. |
