Now, i could have made this into a poll but decided against it, as firstly, the pole would be immence and secondly it is better to hear first hand what you guys think.

So, what should a player be using in a Chaos army? It doesn't matter which chaos army, even chaos dwarves! Just post your replies and let us see what everyone thinks.

Happy gaming!!!

As most troops are very expensive & slow moving I find key units to be:
Chaos Hounds
Marauder Horsemen
Furies

The rest of the army are the combat troops...

Well, I play Mortals. With that in mind, the one thing that is out, are Beasts. I play pure mortals, with maybe a couple of possessed Chaos warriors as Daemonettes and Horrors. The bulk of my army is Chaos warriors, Chaos warriors, Chosen chaos warriors, Chosen knights, Marauder horsemen.

When you say possessed warriors, do you mean chosen warriors? Or something else? So far, i firmly agree with everyones choices, speed seems to be one of the keys.

Good to see you back Malakess as well.

Happy gaming!!!

By possessed Chaos Warriors, I mean its my lame excuse for having my pure mortal army have daemons, but still be a pure mortal army. Plus conversions could be cool. Im seeing a kneeling Chaos warrior, with his head in his hands, as a Horror crawls out of his torso (you only see head and arms of the horror).

i base my army around a 15 man unit of warriors with shields with my lord this is a strong unit. i then have a unit of slaaneshi chosen and one of marauders they form up on my general's flanks. then i have chosen knights for strong countercharges screamers shield them and have the same role of flanking. khorngors are good on the charge and warhounds make excellent missile fodder. my other characters are a khorne exalted on juggernaut(really hard hitting) and a slaaneshi "sorceress". the hole army is based on a norscan theme and i hope to get some pictures up soon.

I say heavy cavallery.

Hit hard and fast and takes away the enemy's attention, and hopefully some firepower and magic from the main attack (large regiments of infantry).

And cavallery is always handy to have a few of! :D Since they can act as mobile reserv or as the spearpoint in an attack.

I agree with Gurkhal speed and manuverability(sp) are the key. A Mortal army cannot afford to march down the field only to engage the enemy after 3-5 rounds of magic and shooting, we simply don't have the mass of the orcs or the speed and screening ability of the Beastmen. The 20 strong unit of warriors with the Lord, that one is counting on, if it reaches as a single rank of tattered remnants will only bounce off a full ranked unit and this is even more true if you are not using herds as missile screen. I believe that for a mortal army to be successfull at least three units of cavalry are needed (2 horsemen and 1 knights) and some fliers even if their only role is to distract the enemy fire plan and cut LOS.
Also the manuverability offered by cavalry/fliers/skirmishers can protect our blocks from enemy cavalry, the affromentioned unit is only a flank charge away from oblivion not to mention that the threat range of enemy chariots/cavalry are more than enough to make you rethink your whole plan, it only takes two humble goblin chariots to turn your proud warriors to a red paste splattered around the battlefield.
