One of my friends has just started playing orcs, and will play warbands for a while with them while he gets his models. In our first game, I almost choked when he deployed, there are so many of them! I got absolutly clobbered, I had nothing to stop all of them with. So do anyone have a good idea on what to take against orcs in 500p? He uses only orcs (no goblins or trolls or anything), and I have most mortal units at my disposal. 150p is already gone into an aspiering champion with mark of Tzeentch (which I refuse to go withput for fluff reasons), which limits me a bit. I tried using lots of fast cavalry... big misstake... |

Wait a minute, are you playing Border Patrol or normal Warbands? And what does your opponent use? That would really help. |

Warbands, and he has just started so he will probably change a bit from time to time. But as I said, lots of orcs and no goblins trolls or other stuff. |

If playing warbands you canīt have an Exalted/aspiring champion w. mark of Tzeentch as no model is allowed to cost more than 125 points... |

Take a mixture of warriors, maruders and warhounds. A chaos spawn works wonders, take one. |

Thing is he uses the Grimgor list, big uns have s5 when they charge, I'm not sure a spawn is such a good idea. I feel I need warriors, but they are so insanly expencive for a 500p army, yet I don't think marauders can realy take orc big uns on in close combat. |

How effective is your magic in such a small battle, as personally I would rather use an exalted champion with Halberd and get more warriors/marauders (whatever you use as core troops) instead. |

Well, give the marauders grerat weapons and they should do fine. The level 2 wizard could prove useful and destructive, put him in a marauder unit and it's even better! |

Well as I said I have the character for fluff reasons, not because he is the best possible choice. I could try marauders with GW, but won't they just die? They will strike last, and the orcs will kill half of them before they get to do anything. |

I would rather use flails, but then again in a 500 point army I would try to have some knights (5, non chosen) 2 units of hounds (act as screens, baits & flankers) & the last would be a beastherd, the beastherd is much better than a unit of marauders would be... |

Don't have beasts, but I do have knights... I think I'll try them out, the orcs should have a bit more trouble with those. |

Take at least some marauders. Remember that the marauders are just as fast as the orcs so you will get some charges, and great weapons do strike first then. Flails could work too, but I prefer great weapons personally. I sugest you buy some beastmen because the T4 skirmishers are useful in warband games- 5 gors with extra hand weapons and 5 ungors make great units. If you really want to be annoying, take a chariot :D |

*loads up Army Builder because I'm lazy* Aspiring Champion: Wossname (I read Terry Pratchett, guilty, :D) Mark of Tzeentch 150 Points Chariot of Tzeentch 140 Points 10 Warriors Great Weapons, Full Command, Mark of Tzeentch. 210 Points Magic: 6 Power dice! That's three dice per spell and even more damage than just the Mark of Tzeentch of the Character alone! I found this list crushed Orcs with an Army like this: Black Orc Warboss with nifty Items 10 Black Orcs 14 Black Orcs 10 Black Orcs I think that's something like 500 Points The Chariot flew round the Flank with the Character riding it, he cast a few spells first few turns at the large unit, bringing it down to about 7 in the first turn (I got both Magic Missile Spells and my brother didn't manage to dispell with his two Power Dice). The Warrior impacted in combat in turn three and with their Great Weapons on Charge minced the rest of the large unit Well, if it's any other Army list I can't help you. Darmort |

I don't want to invest more in magic simply because I know how powerfull it can be in a warbands game, overly-powerfull if you really try to get as much of it as you can. |
