Daemonic Steeds or barded Chaos steeds?

When is it a good idea to use a Daemonic Steed instead of a barded Chaos Steed.
I see the advantages & the disadvantages:

Daemonic Steed:
+
It's faster than a barded steed
They are stronger & have more Attacks
Cause fear
The bigger base size is great w. Berserker Sword

-
The Daemonic steed can be killed separately
No extra armor save on a steed
Can be singled out in a unit of normal cavalry
Becomes more of a target
Alot more expensive

To me it seems a barded Chaos steed is the better choice because it is safer for you expensive character, but that is my opinion. What do you think & what are your experiences w. the different mounts?

I use a daemonic steed. Because I don't have a base for a Chaos steed more than anything.

Daemonic steed all the way. I've seen them rip single characters apart where their riders have failed, they are fully mean as. Don't forget shooting is randomised between the rider and the daemonic mount, increasing the riders chance of survival, almost making up for the disadvantage of lack of extra armour save. The extra speed is also invaluble, and can really suprise your opponent.

barded steed for sure. the one time i used a daemonic steed, it ended in a total bloodbath...not in favour....plus barded steeds give that handy +1 save that has saved me more times than i've seen purple monkies.....and thats a lot...

anyway, daemonic steeds are also very tricky to convert.

I tend to go for barded steeds, mainly because it's cheaper, less risky and my archaon is painted poorly.

Personally, I don't use either. Unless, of course, you would happen to consider a Disc of Tzeentch being a Daemonic Steed...which it is. Never mind. ;)
Barded steeds are excellent in the fact that they provide +2 to your armor save and are relatively cheap, but don't add too much character. And besides - when you (and your mount) already have a 3+ Ward Save against missiles and magic (w/ Golden Eye), you don't really have to worry about the whole 'mount getting targeted' issue.
Of course, if you don't follow the glorious and inspiring Way of Tzeentch, you may have some more problems... :P

I have brought this thread back from the dead for a reson:
No targetting restrictions when a character is in a unit. So, You could add a nasty character on a steed into some knights, but with extra base size, it might mean less knights get to attack. Is this worth it? Will more people start converting a steed up for their lord to ride?

@Archaon will get a nice boost, maybe someone at GW felt sorry for him after losing to an orc

jugger. have the lord on khorne on the daemonic steed model and as he's riding with the knights and the extra movement wouldn't count a lot, i use him as a jugger, which i find much better. barded steeds perform better, but he model is just so cool ^_^

While the singling out rule works nicely in favour for the Demonic Steeds, I stik to barded steeds mainly for the armour boost. Although I will take a demonic steed for fluff purposes... or if I just want my general to look cooler.

I still think a barded stees is the way to go. The extra knight attacks are better than the steed attacks anyways if he's in a unit, and it can provide easy wounds for powerful enemy characters in a challenge with your champion, as it'll almost always be easier to hurt with it's crappy save and low WPS.

The Disc of Tzeentch is the only Daemonic mount I use, because it's sight rules, fear, and 15" flight is usefull enough to counter it's liabilities somewhat, though I still find myself tempted to just stick my Lord on a regular steed.

Well as there is still nothing preventing enemies slaying your steed from underneath you in CC i would stick with barded. The exceptions are the disc as Tammil said and possibly a steed of slaanesh for an exalted sorcerer.

The normal steed is still a better buy imo, but it does make the combo of berserker sword & Daemonic steed a lot better, atleast now the daemonic steed isnīt totally worthless.

& yeah Archaon got better, but he still isnīt very fluffy nor that great to use in less than 5K.

The undivided daemonic steed has cause fear, and higher strength. It's also quite tough, although the saves are poor. It don't give +2 to your armour save, but if your unit needs filling up, it's good. I'd personally only use it for a lack of an appropriate model with a normal steed.

I feel that the marked steeds needs mentioning. The steed of Slaanesh is, IMHO, best used in two ways, in which they're superb. The first is to place a sorcerer on it, so they can stay out of combat and get low range spells in faster.

The second way is to give it to an exalted champion with the daemon blood chalice thingy (unholy grail :P) and put in a unit of mounted daemonettes. With movement 10, this unit (which is already quite good without the hero) can be in a beautiful flanking position already after your first move! He also adds a considerable punch. If you're up against brets, this hero with a great weapon is gooooood.

The tzeentchian one offers good LoS, and the movement isn't all that bad either
