Hi All, I am planning adding a bit of variety to my beasts army. Currently I ambush basically every game and I was looking for new tactics when I saw my unbuilt Belakor lying in its box. So, how would you build a Ex Daemon or a DP for a 2k list. I was think about going magic heavy with the rest of my characters, make him level 2 w/lore of beasts and give him Unliving Idol and Diabolic Splendour. Nice and cheap and simply, leaving me plenty of points for another 2 Shamans. BTW I choose lore of beasts for Bear Anger, he should be able to deal with nearly anything on his own if he can get the spell out. Any other ideas? have a bit of free rein with what you think can back him up in my army as I have a wide selection of Beasties for him to travel with. |

Souds good, expensive, but good. I dont believe you can take lore of beasts on an exalted daemon, but I am not sure. I thought it was shadow, fire, and death only. YOu might want to check that out. |

He is correct cannot take Beasts on a Demon Prince or an Ex Demon. Your choices are fire, shadow, death. I personally like Shadow but Fire has sword of Ruhin which stacks with Demonic gifts |

I enjoy running an exalted daemon at the 2k level, though I use Master of Mortals, not Unliving Idol. Here's what my list looks like: http://z4.invisionfree.com/cotec/index.php?showtopic=736&hl= I like the daemon because it can do a variety of things. He does: -Flying terror causer -Your opponent will be very scared of him, despite not being THAT scary. -Knight hunter (blade of the ether or flaming sword of rhuin required) -Warmachine or archer hunter -He can join charges with units like beast herds or marauders, giving you enough punch to win the combat (though you should definately not take him for this reason alone) -Obviously, a wizard You can always find something to do with this guy, just be sure to position him properly so he's not shot to pieces. I find that he's most effective with the mark of nurgle, you'd be surprised how often that extra wound saves me. |

Thanks for the feedback all. Yeah, my friend got me all hopped up on Bears anger + Daemon and I didn't think about silly rules getting in the way. I am inclined to drop the points used to make him a sorceror and turn him from and Exalted into a full DP. The idea of FSoR is great but it is the second spell in the fire book so it is not guaranteed that I will get it. Once he is a DP I can give him Diabolic Splendour and the reroll to hit ability to bring him to a good fighting level. I am loath to give him the Blade of Ether as I dont have many high armour opponents. Upgrade to Nurgle sounds fun, but I run an unmarked beast army... although I do like Nurgle... As I am using Belakor who is not really a nurgle DP, I think I will stick with undivided for now, but there is no problem giving him the mark of Nurgle for a game or two. Just had a thought aqbout buying some Pestigors to add to the flavour of having a Nurgle DP... gulp, didn't need thoughts about spending more money! |

You should really have the re-roll thingy indeed, it is imo the best gift of all. |

Maybe not pestigors, but nurglings are cool! If you're cheap, they can't be too hard to sculpt from greenstuff! |

A Daemon Prince leading a Beasts of Chaos Army is powerful indeed, but you must be very careful with him and have him equipped properly for the role that he'll play in your list. I often field this Daemon Prince... 1x Daemon Prince: Undivided *General, Lvl 4, Fire Magic *Unliving Idol, Diaboic Splendour, Soul Hunger, Spell Breaker It allows for a more flexable model, one that can cast some direct damage type spells, fight in Close Combat if needed, help with Magical Defense and high mobility for LD tests. |

Your better off with Blade of the Ether than Spell Breaker. If you dont manage to roll Sword of Ruhin your running into problems because with a St 5 a Demon Prince doesnt quite have whats needed to chop through Heavily Armored Troops The Lore of fire is an awesome lore just not on a DP. With the Exception of sword of Ruhin which is awesome for him. Taking a lore that most spells require you to be out of combat is either wasting the lore or wasting the combat ability of a Demon Prince My lore of choice on a DP is Shadow is has some good support spells for your units and the Magic Missile is great against low Toughness stuff and heavily armored units. It absolutely chews Bretonians and Empire Knights up. |
