In an all beast army 10 gor 11 ungor seems like it would work well. I dont know that I would put a herd that large into a mortal army, though.

The best beastherd overall is a unit of 17, 7 gors & 10 Ungors.
In a beastarmy & if using the superherd tactics, then I would say either 21 (9 Gors, 12 Ungors) or 26 (11 Gors & 15 Ungors), they are used in these odd numbers to prevent panic for as long as possible.
Any characters leading the herds should count towards the number of Gors you have.

i'd say it has to be a number that can be divided by 4 (because you must have a quarter oh the herd in the charge range if you wanna charge), and more ungors, something like 5,6. and as snyyg said, don't forget aboot the characters. they also count. so if you take a character, 9 gors and 14 ungors...?

You see, S'tan, that should be the case except the leadership on the herds is overall terrible, and by using numbers that are 1 more than a number divisible by 4 you can avoid a panic check for one more casualty. It is not much, but with Ld 6 base it is a precaution that (in most cases) must be taken.

you see omnious, i in my lack of imagination can't imagine an ultimate beastherd without a good fighter in it, usually the general or the general to be at least somewhere near, so leadership of the herd isn't 6. and even if the general (or a wargor for that matter) isn't close or in the unit, the foe-render will still boost the leadership of the unit to a whoping 7. :P

the unit is pretty hard to hit (since the enemy is at a bonus -1 to hit as they are skirmishers...in a way) and so even basic elves never will hit on a better score than 4+, rather less if they move. and in a 24 strong unit, many can fall and it still won't be such a problem + you can screen your little uber herd with another, 66 pts herd (5 gors, 5 ungors and a musician), if you're so scared, so shooting doesn't really pose a problem, while not being able to charge and getting charged because of it is....

Actually, I prefer less gors and more ungors to maximize spear attacks and lower point costs.

My big herd has 8 gors and 13 ungors. 8 gors means my front rank can take a couple of casualties and still keep a full rank of gors while gaining the benefit of spears from the rear rank.
