Non-Beast Heroes to Lead Beast Units

Hello all,

Everyone knows in Chaos any hero has to be of the same race as a unit they lead. Well I think I may have found a 'loophole' to that rule.

I was perusing in my Beasts of Chaos book, when I saw on Pg. 49 a two sentence note. 'Special Note: 'Beasts of Chaos units' refers to all units in this army list. 'Beast units' refers only to those in the Beast category.'

Turn the page to 50 and look at the three paragraphs 'Mixing Characters'. 'For these reasons, a Beast character cannot join Mortal units and Mortal characters cannot join Beast units'.

Using those two rules together means that mortals can join the special and rare units of Beasts of Chaos. Centigors can now get a decent character in their ranks.

Just thought I'd throw my two cents in...

why would you want to do that anyway

centigors are used as fast cavalry, right? so if you aren't fielding a themed army, why bother with them? marauder horsemen do the job much better, thanks to the fast cavalry rule, even though the have lower toughness and strength. and if you're playing fluffy....why bother with unfluffy stuff like that ;)

EDIT: to give you a bone to chew anyway in case you didn't know.... put a champion of khorne on a jugg and inside a unit of mounted marauders, as they'll still get the ''fast cavalry'' rule. the thing will have great hitting power plus exelent manuvra...blj *breaks his tongue*...you know the word :P

Actually Centigors are rank and file cavalry...they just have the ability to move thru woods. But I was just using them as an example. I never knew a mortal lord could join with minotaurs or any BoC monsters cuz of the no mortal may join a Beast unit rule.

And the juggernaut maybe a good idea but the cavalry would only go the movement of the juggernaut and not their own...a daemonic mount would be the way to go if you wanted to join a unit of maruader horsemen.

Why do you think I have a lone exalted in my latest beastlist 8he leads my trolls which iw as eager to test out & having the helm of many eyes makes him stupid as well, so no real loss).

No powergaming, just eager to test the trolls out under the new rules (I test everything out when there are new rules or a new armybook, just so I know what works & what doesnīt so that I later can write tacticas for this site & make efficent lists when playing tournaments).

But to be honest, the unit hasnīt performed nearly as well as I was hoping for, & adding a 4:th troll makes the unit as expensive as chosen knights who has a better punch.

maybe, but trolls survive longer, right? with toughness 5 (most other monsters have toughness 4) and regeneration (even if regen isn't as good as it was, against most things, it's still a 4+ ward)

i still think that the only thing that should join chaos trolls are doombulls.
although fluffwise, i have a prolem even with that.

besides, trolls ain't half as bad if you keep them close to the general...

Aren't trolls toughness 4? Anyway, hero in a unit of trolls really isn't that good. Its OK, but nothing to go mental about. The Juggernought in marauder cavalry idea is what you call rules exploitation... BTW, centigors have a different role to light cavalry anyway.
